I laughed pretty hard. The way they phrased it, they are saying that Words of Friendship should be removed.
It seems strange, though it isn't necessarily wrong. The bard does have a lot of class features and removing one isn't strange.
However, there is still the chance they got this wrong and need an errata to the errata.
For purposes of LFR, this should provide enough clarification. We remove all instances of Words of Friendship and play on. We get healing, which was the important bit. If PHBII gives us Word of Friendship, all the merrier!

They're pretty clearly changing the wording of the Majestic Word power and that is it. Perhaps Words of Friendship will reappear in another form in PH2 after more in-house testing.
You'll note that bardic rituals and instruments are also referenced in the final article and not included for use ;-)

You'll note that bardic rituals and instruments are also referenced in the final article and not included for use ;-) Yeah, but that was always the case, both in the initial article and the final. Any preview class will hold some things back, whether powers, magic items, etc.
The issue here is that they didn't take the time to answer the question clearly.
If what they wanted to do was to correct Majestic Word, they should have reprinted both powers.
If what they wanted to do was remove Majestic Friendship and keep Majestic Word, then they should have additionally clarified that all references to Words of Friendship should be removed from the article.
As it stands, their errata is good enough for LFR, and you would only get Majestic Word (not Words of Friendship), due to their phrasing. However, it would have been nice if they had removed any potential confusion.
It is funny to note that none of us guessed the outcome!

I will say that I am happy that they took the time to answer the issue. I think many of us were a bit worried that this seemed to set a unwritten policy of not going back and correcting problems in finished articles, which undermines the quality of the DDI offering. Even if they don't correct the previous issue pdf file, knowing they will go back and fix egregious errors is comforting and a good sign for their caring about quality. I'm thankful for the fix, even if I would prefer a bit better wording.

Hopefully they'll include the correction in the Dragon 370 compilation in a mistakes/retractions section somewhere.

I can understand why they would be removing Word of Friendship, but that doesn't mean I'm any less disappointed. I finally got to play the Bard in a game last night, and I was able to use the power twice. Clearly it's not something that is necessary, as most Bards are likely to have good diplomacy scores already, and it is rather powerful, but it loses that power if you need to use diplomacy more than once in a social encounter, such as a skill challenge.
Regardless, I thought this was a preview, and not a playtest; That would imply that the article gives the class as it will appear in the published book. But if Word of Friendship is being removed, what does this say about future previews? Can something be removed from such material mere months from printing? Of course it can, but how did they go so long with the power as part of the class before deciding to remove it?

Perhaps they temporarily removed it while balacing to decide the exact bonus it should give. +5 is a bit hefty at any level for a encounter power to a specific skill, especially given the bard's opportunities for other bonuses to diplo.
