Thanks for comments guys. It's appreciated and I am happy others use them. Next week I should have some Adventure 4 maps complete.
These look awesome unfortunately I am for some reason unable to access any of the links that have been posted. Anyone able to tell me if it is just me or if the links are messed up for some reason?
Thanks very much. That link actually works for me.
Steel.. thesse are Amazing!! We will be entering in the Temple IN Between soon.. Looking forward to those maps for sure!!
You.. are .. FULL of Awesome!
Thanks! Not sure how long it will take me to get to the Temple Between maps. They start getting much harder to make after Part 4.
No. I am in the middle of working on Part 4 maps. I have looked ahead though at the maps and they get more difficult.
lol. I bet he has part 4 nearly finished by now.
Wish there was something we could do to help him though.
Hey I just found this thread and love the look of these maps. Very cool.
I was wondering if there are larger maps with all the tiles linked together that I could print on a plotter. I saw in earlier posts that someone may have done this, but I have not been able to find them.
Thanks for this amazing work.
I've been messing around with CC3 and made the first two battle maps for Den of the Destroyer. I'd like for folks to tell where I can improve, but I don't know how to post them! lol...help
I have them in jpeg and CC3 drawing image.
OK, here we go.
This first one isn't complete. The floor works fine when I bring it up locally. Not sure what happened when I uploaded it to photobucket
OK, help me improve. These were my first CC3 attempts (after 2 tutorials).
Also, I've now completed all of the encounter maps in Kobold Hall from the DMG. Please let me know what I need to do to improve Clicky!
The link to map 6g in part 2 appears to be broken.
These maps are great!
*Nevermind. I was able to get it. Great work!*
Steeljaw, is there any chance you could share with us the technique used for making the stairs effect? This is especially visible in the long staircase from Bordrin's Watch.
I've been looking around the cartographer's guild forums, but havent found anything.
The more I think about it, the more I think the Mappers Guild is a great idea. Smaller and easier to manage than the existing ones out there, and we could help each other with techniques.
If anyone needs files hosted (source files, maps, jpegs whatever) I have a 100 GB/month account with MediaFire (and the bandwidth carries over so I have 375 GB transfer available currently) of which I would happily share. Just let me know.
How much do you lack on the Lost Mines, Nick? Any particular maps you need help with or are you close to complete on those? I'm getting ready to tackle the third map in Den of the Destroyer Looks like fun
I also need to completely redraw my Den first encounter, unless someone has a decent copy.
Thats great your working on Den of the Destroyer. I hope to finish Lost Mines this week. After that we can see what's next and split it up.
He, Linus, anything in particular you want to work on or are already in the middle of?
Should we start another thread somewhere to discuss all of this?
btw, Thanks for sharing the source files, Nick. That answered TONS of questions
Minor change of plans. I'm working on the easy maps in Den, just to get them out of the way. I hope to have all but the first encounter (temple) and 3rd encounter (stairs) complete this week.
UPDATE: I have 8 of the 9 maps for Den of the Destroyer ready to play. They could still use a bit of detail, like debris and furniture, but they are in playable format now if anyone needs them.
Great stuff I see here and thanks for all the work. My question though is I see mention of a lot of different paper types, sorry but I am a nub when it comes to this stuff. The default sizes being used here, is this your standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper?
Just want to make sure as I did not see any official wording.
I have been using the untagged wizards maps for my SOW. I make them the right size in photo shop, then print them with paint on 11x17 paper. (letter size will work fine too)
We are currently about to start The Temple Between. Here's the maps I've sized up for printing.

Awesome stuff, Blackivarr The only one I really don't care for is the Warehouse one. It kinda gives away too much.
I went back and re did the lost mines maps. All the un tagged maps that wizards puts up are there.

I've put the maps up for Den of the Destroyer, enjoy.
http://s610.photobucket.com/albums/tt18 … Destroyer/
The way I print them is with good ole paint. Every PC should have it.
Open the File.
Go to page setup.
Choose your paper size, I use 11x17 but 8.5x11 will do fine.
Take off the centering to save paper.
Paint will print the map on multiple pages.
Cut em out. Tape em together. I use a glue stick on a broken down cardboard box for a firm back.
Go kill your PC's.
Instead of a glue stick & a broken down cardboard box, I plan on using a good sized piece of plexi-glass. Simply place it on top and voila! Can even use dry erase markers on it to mark certain areas...
Hello Folks, I didn't end up using any of these but I figured I'd post them anyway. Here are the maps for Beyond the Mottled Tower.
http://s610.photobucket.com/albums/tt18 … d%20Tower/
Has Morik or NickVerto finished any custom maps for use in this AP? Looking for Lost Mines Of Karak & beyond...#4 onwards basically...
Just now starting Rivenroar and the maps are a big hit! THX
We are starting Haven of the Bitter Glass this weekend so I figured I better get the maps up.
Have fun. http://s610.photobucket.com/albums/tt18 … r%20Glass/
Thx for the posts you've made.
It seems the guys who were doing the custom maps have disappeared. It's ashame. My group is enjoying the highly detailed maps. We're only on Rivenroar, so once the 4th adventure starts, w/ the Mines of Karak, it'll be time to use the unmarked WotC maps...
Morik Trask? Any news on those maps?
Since WotC switched servers, I am hoping this thread doesn't get lost in the bunch. These maps are amazing, & I'd hate to go without them for adventure #4 and beyond...
Let us know. If u need help hosting them, I have a premium Rapidshare acct. where I can store them...
I forgot to put the link to the maps of Alliance at Nefelus when I re-sized them.
Open them in MS Paint, take off the centering in page setup, print away on your favorite size paper.
Put em to good use and go kill your PC's.
Stone skinned King maps coming soon.
Thx for the post. Yer maps will be a big help ofcourse.
I do love those custom maps those 2 guys were doing early back in the thread. Hopefully they'll return and post some of their work.
"kill the pcs?" lol >>>these are my good friends. This wouldn't be good!
Stone Skinned king maps are up.
Print em out and go kill your PC's.
Anyone have the Siege of Bordrin's Watch maps in a format where each map is one big JPG or something? I read some previous posts asking for those, but following various links I can't seem to find them.
Failing that, does anyone have the untagged maps from Wizards? They don't seem to be in the gallery.
I just so happen to have the Bordin's watch maps right here
OK, I admit it. I can't figure out how to take Blackivarr's excellent jpgs and print them across multiple letter pages.
Someone buy me a clue?
Open them up in MS paint.
Go to page set-up.
Take off the centering.
Choose your paper size.
Blackivarr those are great, is there a reason why you have not done the showdown with the fake queen sephatiah the dryad? i can't seem to find it on photobucket?
Heh, I must have missed that one.
Its up now.
Have fun with it. s610.photobucket.com/albums/tt183/Blacki...
Hey Blackivarr, found out that the problem I have printing these in paint is some kind of incompatibility between the jpg format these are saved in and Windows 7 Paint.
If I open them in Vista or XP Paint they work fine, in Windows 7 Paint they compress the entire picture into about 1/2 inch of graphic in the preview and the print.
If I open the jpg in Photoshop CS and then save it back as a jpg with default save options then it opens in Windows 7 paint just fine. Unfortunatley I don't have Photoshop (had to have a friend do the open/save) so I'm not sure what to do about this problem. I tried doing the open/save in MS Picture Manager and Picture Viewer but they come out with the same problem.
I'm still limping along with XP, i'm glad you can get at them one way or another.
thanks for that, drawing out some of these maps have been a total nightmare!
The map for Shrine of Erathis/Haelyn's Home in The Temple Between (DUN 161 p 31) is missing from Blackivarr's gallery, although I did find it on WotC's site.
If you do some digging and URL engineering, you can find the map galleries that used to exist before the site "upgrade" -- some of these have untagged maps!
is NOT the same as
You should be able to find map galleries for other issues by changing the date at the end of the URL to the last Wednesday in a month (December ended on a Holiday so I backed it up a week). If you can't find a given issue on that date, poke around for other likely dates and you'll probably find it.
... it's not even close. I'll be posting about this in D&Di General soon.
Thats bizzare about the map galleries, good find.
I didnt use that part of the adventure, no wonder I missed that map.
I'll put it up tomorrow.
Thanks for that, Blackivarr...
Got some problems ... I think I figured them out but this may help others, and the first one you might want to look at to see if your image is scaled wrong.
Using Paint under Win XP SP3, which should be pretty idiot-proof... disabled centered, set the margins down to .5 which is about the limit of what the printer will handle, and printed AlleyRead.jpg from the Temple Between set. I'd estimate the squares about about 2/3 of an inch on any side.
Asked paint how big the image was in inches and it said 11 inches wide... counted the squares and there's 19 across, so that's obviously why the squares are too small. Should be able to just resize that and go again.
Several of the other images would not open in MS Paint, for those that have this problem, try this workaround:
Open the image in Paint.NET (free), resample it to 72dpi [Image -> Resize] (PDN thinks it's 1 dpi which is not exactly ideal ), save it as a JPEG @ 100% quality. Now you can open it in MS Paint again and print as normal.
I deleted and re posted Alleyready.jpg, you were right, the size was off. Good catch. If you see any others let me know and I'll resize them again.
Grathias anvil maps coming soon.
Thanks for all your work. I've started using your maps now that my group has started the Karak adventure. They just finished the assault on the Gate House.
In planning for our next session, I noticed that you don't have maps for the Guard Hall (#29 on the map gallery) or the Foiled Ambush (#1 in the map gallery). Were these missed or not included for some other reason - I'm not trying to tell you how to spend your time. :o)
BTW, how do you re-size them so they are so usefully printable?
I've put up the foiled ambush (at your request Klempad ), I'll get to the gaurd hall tomorrow.
Open in Paint
go to page setup, take off centering, make sure scaling is at 100%
print away (paint will print the multiple pages)
Much thanks for getting that 'foiled ambush' map up. It printed out perfectly. And just in time, I might add; my party ended up there last session.
Now they're discussing their next move and it look like they'll be heading towards the Guard Hall area. I hope you'll be able to get that one up before they get there.
Anyone willing and able to post battle maps without grid lines? I run my adventures in maptool and I find duplicate grid lines to be very irritating on the eyes.
Sorry Weepingminotaur, I'm not sure how I'd get the lines out.
Klempad the Gaurd Hall is up, sorry about the delay
Garaithas Anvil maps are up.
OOps wrong link.
My image copies of maps for Rescue at Rivenroar (where somebody with more time & talent than I had de-tagged them) seem to have gotten corrupted, and I can't find my original download link anyplace. Blackivarr has everything through the end of the paragon tier except for Rivenroar and Umbraforge.
There anybody who can help me out?
I hadnt realized that they put up the galleries for Rivenroar or Umbraforge(currently DMing Garaithias Anvil), when I get a little while I'll put them up. I tried to do it from the pdfs a while back but the resolution was bretty bad, I hope the galleries are better.
The Rivenroar maps are up, have fun.
hey all. My SoW group fell away during the mottled tower several months back. They are back and ready to pick back up again now though.
It takes me a while to get any maps up. Blackivarr can get them online much faster than I can. If anyone wants any specific custom maps from SoW though, I'll see if I can get them done.
I currently have no way to post them online. I'll have to shoot them to someone who can put them up in a more central location. The wiki perhaps.
Just started working on the Trollhaunt maps too (my Sunday group will be there soonish). They are painfully slow though. Tough maps.
Morik? Is that you? You are alive!
Good news indeed. I've missed your SoW maps...any chance u can provide links if anymore are done? Looking for Mines of Karak (4th adv.) and past that one...
I have the mines done. I need to find the files. I got a new computer and don't have everything transfered over yet.
I do need a place to put them up though.
I can offer you space on my premium Rapidshare account. Zip up the file, and I'll upload it to my account and provide the link to you via PM or just post it here if u wish...
ok. Let me look and see which ones are done when I get in from work tonight. I'll post here (probably tomorrow) and let you know what's complete... Pretty sure a few of them need some work
Still gonna be a bit. I need to get caught up with my two campaigns before starting on these. I'm doing mine like dungeon tiles now, btw. You won't have to put them in Excel to print them any more. They are also set up to where you can lay out a room at a time for your players rather than a battlemap (and thus give away stuff they shouldn't be able to see).
I've prepared a map of the warehouse from 'The Temple Between'. It's at full scale, and I spent a fair amount of time in photoshop getting this right!
Blackivarr, I think the scale is off on Temple Between / Grand Cathedral. Sadly I didn't catch it until I had printed it and started cutting. :P Oh well. I thought that it fit a little too easily on 4 sheets of 11x17
uh yea, that would be a bit small. I just downloaded it from the bucket and it seems fine for me. I wonder what could have happened. Thats a great map too, my players loved (as hard as it was) that encounter.
What program did you use to print it?
As with all of the maps in that series, I download them, open them in Paint.NET to resmaple to 72 dpi (PDN shows them at 1 DPI and MS Paint won't open an image at 1 DPI), save as a 100% quality JPG, open them in MS Paint and print.
I'll double check my steps, but after the resample to 72dpi it was showing only like 20 inches wide, when it should be about 29 based on # of squares.
I took it down and re did it just to make sure. Hope it's not too late for you.
D&D is friday nights, so I start printing Tuesday or Wednesday usually so that if there are problems, I notice them early. Thanks, new one looks good!
We're starting Tyranny of Souls this weekend...
The maps are up.
We are almost done w/ Betrayal at Monadhan, maps are up.
I haven't gone through this thread completely yet, so please forgive if this is something you've already adressed... do you have a collected file for each chapter? I will either be printing them out and mounting them as you have, or using them as backgrounds in MapTool.
So far, what I have seen are quite extraordinary! Nice work indeed!
Thanks, all the adventures are listed individually on the left.
We are about half way through Grasp of the Mantled Citadel, here are the maps.
Starting Legacy of IO this weekend. Maps are up. Have fun.
Starting Those once Loyal this weekend, maps are up. Getting close to the end!!
Starting Test of Fire, even closer to the end now!
Maps are up. Have fun.
Hey, I see that the last post was like 6 months ago, so are there any plans for the last adventure maps to come out? Not that I need them! I'm about 1/4 of the way through Rivenroar, but I was also wondering, Blackivarr, how do I print off the maps from photobucket? I'm new at this thing >.<
Looooove the way they look!
