Again if you do the math up here in Canada they go for 11 bucks at the news stand. So out of the pocket for me 22 a month ok. So you say 10 bucks a month ... sweet deal right ....wrong considering I can purchase ebooks on the internet for fraction of the cost of the hardcopy.... Again Money grab???? Honestly somebody explain this to me because it is seriously not making sense to me at all. I mean everything that just transpired over the last couple of months is not making sense. I feel like same way when my parents divorced when I was 13 . No body could tell me the real reason my mother and father stopped talking to each other... Just because .....youll be ok Your going to live with Granma for awile...... WELL IF ITS NOT DWARVEN ITS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I m not likin it at all. I feel the ball is going to drop in 2008.

You sound...uh...a little unstable.

...what are you upset over? You're not getting cheated somehow, and there's not a lot to be sad at. If anything, you should be excited that your hobby is getting some excellent attention by its developers. But man, comparing the online component to your parents' divorce? That's just out there.

Well,
I'm not too sure how I feel about the magazines moving to online content. I've been a subscriber to both for as long as I can remember, and I've turned a number of people on to something that I consider to be the best deal in D&D history. I mean, a subscription to both magazines cost about seventy dollars...which is just a bit more than the price of two hard-bound splatbooks. I always found the content in both magazines to be more than equal with whatever TSR/WOTC/Hasbro was putting out.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is...based on the strength of past Dragon/Dungeon magazines I will subscribe to them no matter their current incarnation. Now, I'm not the most technologically savvy of individuals, but I'll follow the magazines wherever they lead. While I sincerely hope that this online thing doesn't work out and the magazines go back on the stands, I'll still give it a try. I think everyone who's been a subscriber and benefitted from Dragon/Dungeons articles at least owes the magazines that much.

It seems like there's a lot of changes going on all over the D&D community, but only time will tell whether they're for the best. Still, I've followed the magazines for a long time, and they've always shown themselves to be worthy of my loyalty.

If anyone at Wizard's just happens to be reading this thread, I have a suggestion:

Take fiction off the back burner! Pledge to deliver one fantasy short story per issue of Dragon. And while you're at it, start accepting unsolicited proposals for fiction. Costs are going down. This digital initiative could be a great opportunity for Dragon to feature independent or even hitherto unpublished authors.

$9.95 a month is stupid expensive on a per player basis.

It can bee seen as a good way to harvest new fantasy writing talent. After all page count is now not the same with an electronic publication compared to a psychical publication where going one page over the limit is a major dollar loss.

if the $9.95/month is for both magazines then I would think of subscribing.

Pluses to make me subscribe
+ able to download the mags to use offline
+ able to print the magazines
+ watermarks are fine
+ a version of the cover art without text over it
Mongoose games have 2 magazines online which are free and have done so for quite some time. If a small player can do this then for wotc it would be nothing but an investment in gaining sales

Minuses that would turn me away from subscribing
- online access to mags only
- drm of any type (bad experiences lead to the loss of access to multiple titles)
- unable to print
- unable to save mags
- access to mags exists only when subscribed

for me any of the minuses list would turn me away instantly. I think this would turn many away. I will avoid jumping to conclusions until I have had my virtual fingers on the magazine

In all these years I've never subscribed since I started with Issue #83 of Dragon. Will there be a non-subscription download? Or non-subscription pricing? Will Dungeon and Dragon be included in the Insider Subscription? Will subscribing online with WOTC be tricky or easy to cancel if satisfaction isn't met? I know a lot of times when a company has a person subscribed via Credit Card/Debit Card will do a lot to make it very hard to cancel a subscription once started. All of these issues must be addressed before I would offer my card to you guys (WOTC/site owners/whoever).

Another thing to consider would be making a group discount for established gaming groups so all can log in and use the content available and equally - this might be a good idea for general D&D Insider too... perhaps base pricing on the size of the group or something.
