Hi,

I am currently playing a "war" wizard and somehow, I feel that I can't really contribute much to the party in terms of damage.

I am thinking of switching to a "control" wizard though ....

It seems to be that the 4ed wizard is better off as a control wizard than a war wizard.

The Wizard is definitely NOT a Striker. Or even a Defender. But, I have to say that I much prefer the War Wizard type to the Controller type, now that I've had a bit of experience playing the game. The reason is because, if you don't aim to be a Controller, you have alot more room to diversify. Ie: my character, as many on this thread already know, is a Ranger/Mage/Thief. Spent all his Heroic Feats to have alot of skills, from Stealth to Acrobatics to Thievery, and Athletics from his Ranger Multi-Class, in addition to Light Shield and Leather Armour.

With our super-high AC/Reflex, we are better than alot of other classes in direct combat, since most melee of monsters is still vs AC. Means me Eladrin can teleport into Combat Advantage position (using Stealth to get there), get huge bonuses to hit, in addition to higher bonuses for my Weapon than my Magic Missile (unless I use my Wand of Accuracy once per encounter), and deal decent damage.

I have as many monster-kills as anyone else (more actually, due to my AoEs vs Minions), get into melee as much as anyone else, and with spells like Invisibility, can get out of tough situations pretty easily when they happen. I love it. Maybe I should have been a Fighter type, but since I do about as well as our fighters, and I get Mage Hand (my all time favorite spell in the process), no chance. As a matter of fact, the Cantrips -MAKE- the Wizard, in my opinion. For that alone, it's worth doing less damage than the more warrioristic of the classes.

We don't Suck. We're just not all about the damage. This isn't Dungeons and Dragons, the Miniature Game. It's Dungeons and Dragons, the Roleplaying Game. :P
So I can be like everybody else!!!  :D :D :D

You are Red/Blue!

Actually, I have never played the miniature game ...

Well, what I love best about my wizard though, is still the role-playing ... of it ... our homebrew campaign is very interactive and innovative ... love the role-playing aspects of it ...

But I gotta admit, my dice rolls suck big-time !!! Perhaps, that's the main reason why my wizard is always in a bad situation :P
