12. Deva (Unity) Avenger/Radiant Servant/Radiant One -A "Focus Fire" Build -Allows effective 'double dip' from level 1+ via Leading Strike -Wicked At-Will damage -Change of pace. It's not a Demigod, Eternal Seeker, etc. -This build sleepwalks past the 60 At-Will DPR benchmark... and turns his flanker into a striker in the process.
====== Created Using Wizards of the Coast D&D Character Builder ====== Radiant Executioner, level 30 Deva, Avenger, Radiant Servant, Radiant One Avenger's Censure: Censure of Unity Background: Birth - Omen (Arcana class skill)
FINAL ABILITY SCORES Str 12, Con 14, Dex 12, Int 26, Wis 26, Cha 12. STARTING ABILITY SCORES Str 10, Con 12, Dex 10, Int 16, Wis 16, Cha 10.
ITEMS Radiant Execution axe +6, Masterwork Magic Cloth Armor +6, Symbol of Divine Light +6, Helm of Opportunity (epic tier), Scarab of Invulnerability +6, Iron Armbands of Power (epic tier), Breaching Gauntlets (epic tier), War Ring (paragon tier) (2), Belt of Titan Strength (epic tier), Boots of Teleportation (epic tier)
-Radiant Weapon = +6 static when you deal Radiant damage (which you can do as a free/At-Will with the weapon) -Radiant One level 21 feature gives (Int Mod: +8 at 30th) Radiant damage boost when you hit a target who grants you CA. Thanks to Radiant Advantage... everyone we deal Radiant damage to grants us CA. -Unity censure boost is small, but easy to get.
Leading Strike + Radiant Weapon @ 30: +34 vs AC, 2d12+37 damage, flanker gets +8 damage on his next hit on the target. 19% crit rate.
After 1st hit (factoring in CA as +2 to hit, assuming 1 flanker for Censure): +36 vs AC, 2d12+38 damage, flanker gets +8 damage on his next hit on the target.
Your flanker is also getting Combat Advantage and +1 extra to hit from Divine Distraction.
Crits apply the usual feat stack I slap on Radiant damage dealers:
-target and any enemy within 5 squares of target gain vuln 15 Radiant (Punishing Radiance, Symbol of Divine Light) -all divine attacks benefit from the vuln (Pervasive Light) -Font of Radiance (damage boosted from Punishing Radiance) -Triumphant Attack
So... once this guy gets going, which takes exactly 1 swing to do, he is basically +54 damage per Leading Strike, with a bloated crit %, and fantastic crit riders. Have fun!
Heroic tier play: Blink is your basic Pursuing Avenger, but progressively stacks swordmage feats that give her more charge options.
Paragon tier play: Blink PMC swordmage and turns one of her at-will into Frigid Blade, giving her an arcane at-will power, which will be her at-will of choice since she gets White Lotus Master Riposte as her level 11 feat. Paragon tier feats create automatic combat advantage as long as Blink hits with a cold power. Party coordiantion should ensure her target is isolated from the other PCs, thus giving it the choice between moving away and triggering the Censure damage, attacking her and triggering the Master Riposte, and dying idly.
Epic tier play: Blinks focuses on upping her damage potential. Her level 27 avenger encounter attack is traded for Dimensional Charge, to which the cold keyword is added. At level 30, the capstone feature of Arcane Sword turns Dimensional Charge into an at-will power. Oncoming Storm gives a +1 attack bonus each time it hits during a turn (it is labelled the same way as Echoes of Thunder), which boosts accuracy.
Typical encounter: - round 1: minor action: activate Oath of Enmity (get Combat Advantage); minor: use Gond's Craft (get +2 bonus for your next attack with a magic item); standard: use Dimensional Charge to charge from up to 10 squares away. If the enemy attacks you, riposte with Dimensional Charge - round 2+: move action: shift away if you are adjacent to your enemy; standard action: repeat Dimensional Charge
DPR calculation - Attack bonus: +37 on a charge (15 level, 3 proficiency, 3 expertise, 7 Intelligence, 6 enhancement, 2 combat advantage, 1 charge), +36 on a riposte. You always have combat advantage thanks to Shared Enmity and Wintertouched/Lasting Frost - Oncoming Storm: adds 4.80% [5% x (1-4% miss rate)] to your hit rate after Dimensional Charge until the end of your next turn, 9.34% [4.80% + 5% x (1- 9.12% miss rate)] if the target triggers White Lotus Master Riposte - Echoes of Thunder: until the end of your next turn, add 2.88 damage per hit with Dimensional Charge [3 x (1-4% miss)], 5.60 damage after Dimensional Riposte [2.88 + 3 x (1-9.12% miss rate)] - Lasting Frost: exploiting the cold vulnerability follows the same rationale: add 5 x (1-4% miss) = 4.7 damage - Static damage with vanilla items (add Echoes of Thunder + cold damage): 44 on a hit (4d12 power + 7 Intelligence + 3 Weapon Focus + 2 Invigorating Pursuit + 6 enhancement), 106.5 on a crit (48 power + 3d12 high crit + 7 Intelligence + 3 Weapon Focus + 2 Invigorating Pursuit + 6 enhancement + 6d6 crit die)
At-will DPR with vanilla items (assuming the target attacks you): - Dimensional Charge: 77% hit x 44 + 19% crit x 106.5 = 54.115 damage - White Lotus Riposte: 7 Intelligence + 4.7 cold damage (cold vulnerability) - White Lotus Master Riposte: 71.87% hit x 44 + 19% crit x 106.5 + 5.60 Echoes of Thunder damage + 4.7 cold damage = 58.83 damage - Total DPR: 124.645 damage - Additional DPR coming from the items selected (see build): 18.66
This is a long shot from the current DPR kings, but still achieve 100+ DPR no matter the equipment available to your character.
As usual, your comments, remarks and improvements are welcome!
Thanks for including me in! I'm cooking several other Avenger builds, I'll share them on this thread!

No, Hasbru. Thank you for posting the build. It's a unique build with a lot going for it, and looks like a lot of fun.
One thing I'm realizing more and more as I do this is that between each architect's own preferences, and the fact that some feats or feat strings are so much better than others, the builds coming from any one person will generally begin forming patterns. For me, it's the epic-tier Radiant feat stack, and building for Bond of Retribution. I've made a few that deviate (Storm Sentinel, etc), but we all get into ruts or boxed in by our own ideas and preferences. Seeing builds like this one shakes things up a bit, and reminds me/us to look around and be more open to finding new ways to get it done.
Yep. I'm basically going to be posting any complete (ie, written through level 30) builds with write-ups explaining the "why" and "how" that goes into it. Well... any functional ones, and certain things are automatic exclusions. No Punisher of the Gods, no Wis-dumping Critfishers (ie, all Str--useless through Heroic, built for Paragon+), etc.
Any RPGA player given thought to build an avenger without a crit-range-increasing PP and relying solely on the Lucky Shoot reward card (which allows to turn a 19 into a crit)?
At paragon you're allowed 5 reward cards per mod, so I thought about just taking 3 lucky shoots and consider it done (how many 19s do you really roll during a typical LFR mod?).
That way an RPGA avenger can get the 19-20 crit-goodness without having to realy on any specific PP or keyword.
I haven't done any RPGA stuff, and am unfamiliar with the cards. What you're saying does make sense, though. There are a few builds (like my Avenger/Serene Initiate/Demigod, or any of the Avenger/Pit Fighter builds) that don't rely on crits whatsoever. Those types of builds would benefit very well from those cards.
I thought I would go ahead and post my favorite build, the Dwarf Retribution Avenger/Cleric/Radiant Servant/Punisher of the Gods. Or as I like him, The Fist of Kord. This build focuses on two things:
Damage - The Fist of Kord actively tries to milk Censure of Retribution as much as possible by drawing Opportunity Attacks from non censure targets, using a high crit weapon, and expanding his crit range with Radiant Servant's Illuminating Attacks feature. Punisher of the Gods helps you fill the role of Primary Striker.
Survivability - One of the down falls of playing a Martyr build is the amount of resources he can wind up draining from the party if he gets hit too much. By multi-classing into Cleric he also gains access to some healing powers he can use on himself. This build keeps his AC high, and boosts his number of surges.
Tactics: It pays to stay close to your Defender and other melee allies. The Fist of Kord tries to reward them with as much Combat Advantage as possible through flanking, feats, and powers. By epic this Avenger frequently forces CA on multiple enemies.
Drawbacks: You have to watch your health and know when its time to back off. The Fist of Kord tries to dampen some of the impact by relying on the dwarf's minor action Second Wind as well as healing powers. By spending feats on survivability this build can't fish for crits as well as others.
