It's kind of a throwback to class Witches and Warlocks (Warlock means oath-breaker).
I'm really liking the suggestions and discussions here, and have nothing really to add, except to congradulate the above on actually knowing the proper meaning of Warlock - it may just be my location (North West coast of North America) but you are one of TWO people I have ever heard use that properly. Ya...Just thought I'd chime in. :D

Read the story. If Valeran doesn't have a rather... flexible... sense of keeping his oaths (he is double-crossing practically everyone, after all), I don't know who does...
