Can someone please take a fugly stick to this guy's bottom half of his face (nose and under cheekbones to chin), either nasty gash, burns from trying to drink a pot of coffee, some sort of maiming that would make wearing a half mask understandable.

Funkaphant, if i wanted to make the markings on the tail have a glow to them, how would i go about doing that? i want to keep it black but i want the black to have a bit of a brighter glow to it. Something like they are being activated or something. How can i do that in paint or photoshop?
That's a tough one, and honestly, I'm not really sure. I'm not that familiar with glows and making one in black definitely ups the difficulty. I tried a few things and the best I could come up with was using a bevel layer style to add some texture and highlight to the runes. Otherwise, there's this tutorial here psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tutorials-eff... that might help. It's the first thing I tried, but I wasnt really happy with the results. If you want to try the bevel method, instructions are below (assuming you are using CS5, I don't have experience in any others.).
1. Select only black parts of tail 2. Create New Layer via Copy 3. Darken layer (Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation - adjust brightness bar to liking) 4. Add layer style (Layer>Layer Style> Bevel and Emboss - adjust settings as desired, changing direction to down and depth to 25-50% seemed to be a good start)
May not be the best or quickest method, but it was the best I could come up with. If I come up with anything better, I'll post it in here. Hope that helps.
Hmm ill try it...If not ill just use a white color...Thanks for all your help. Ill post it up when i finish it so you can see how it came

Wow there is some amazing work done here. So I was wondering if someone could help me? So I realize this picture is kind of small, but I couldn't find a big version of it. And well I was wondering if someone would still be able to change the hair color to black? Spoiler:

Dude that is amazing...I like your second attempt at it, because you kept the original markings and just added a purple glow around each one as well as the whole tail. I didnt even think of doing that. It matches the purple of her trible colors and it makes perfect sense. You sir, are a great artist and you know what people are looking for. ^_^

Thanks. I've actually been using this thread to teach myself photoshop and the work on your tiefling taught me some cool new techniques. Glad you enjoyed it.
