Well, a few things usually screw up a group picture...
Perspective/Pose - You want to find pics with somewhat of a neutral perspective and pose. If the character is drawn from a weird angle or looking at them from above or below, they most likely won't fit with the rest of the images. If their weapon is sticking out at an angle, it may interfere with the placement of the other characters or appear to be sticking in the back of their heads or something. Also, characters in action poses are tough to place in a group shot.
Lighting - always make sure that the lighting levels and direction are the same for all the characters, i.e., if one character is dressed in dark leathers from a very dark pic and another is wearing bright shiny armor from a bright pic, then you'll have to adjust both of them to the ambient light levels of whatever pic you're using as a background, or all three pics to something somewhere in the middle...
Highlights - as with the lighting level, the direction and placement of the highlights and shadows are important... Depending on which direction the light is coming from in your background pic, you may have to flip a character horizontally so that their highlights and shadows match direction and placement with the background and the rest of the characters. Sometimes the character's highlights and shadows are too well-defined for that guy to be used with your background pic, and sometimes they will determine which side of the pic the character is going to have to be placed in.
Background - You may want to pick your character images first and then choose a somewhat neutral background that blends well with the characters. Also, look for images with a large foreground, drawn with a perspective that looks like the characters could actually be standing on it.
Don't be afraid to rip the characters apart and paste them into the pic a piece at a time if there's a problematic area that will be covered up by something else - for example, if a character's holding a staff or polearm and it would be stabbing another character in the back of the head, you can paste their body minus the arm holding the weapon into the pic, paste another character in front of them and then just grab a portion of the guy's weapon, adjust it to a better angle and paste it in peeking out from behind the second guy's shoulder. Then grab the other end of the weapon and place it so that it lines up with the top part.
Group shots are all about blending the individual elements so they don't stick out from the rest of the pic.

Cool, thanks, that helps a lot

After finishing a 3 year 1-30 4e campaign I'm trying out 3.5 Pathfinder. One of the base classes is called the Summoner who, believe it or not, gets a whole bunch of summoning abilities. The foremost is the ability to summon an Eidolon, am extraplanar entity that levels with you. It's a cool system, being able to spend Evolution points each level to give it wings, buff its Dexterity, add extra legs, give it casting ability, burrowing, etc. My character, Krylljed, is a Synthesist, which means he summons his Eidolon on top of his own mortal form, so it's more like a transformation, I get all of his physical stats, a crap ton of THPs, natural attacks, etc, but keep my mental stats and casting. We're 12th level, so I've had time to make quite a few modifications to my eidolon, Dehy, but I'm hoping someone has a suitable picture of such a creature, or wouldn't mind modifying one. Dehy has 4 legs and 2 arms, so the creature should be roughly centauric, including placement of torso in the front of the body, but doesn't need to be mammalian so some sort of 4 legged dragonspawn could work, but he does need hooves rather than claws. A pair of wings is also a must. The head should be more bestial than humanoid, as he has a nasty bite attack. It's not a dealbreaker, but holding a 2 handed weapon (axe or sword is fine) would be nice. Specific color details are open. Nothing smaller than Large or bigger than Huge if there are objects in the picture to give it scale. Bonus points if there's a rather plain, middle-aged looking Half-Elf mage nearby! I appreciate any effort put into said image's search or creation! Cookies to anyone who can figure out why the two are named what they are as well.
My forum good deeds. Fortunately, left unpunished: Spoiler:

Friends, is anyone lurking about who might be able to take up my simple color palette request? It's a page back, post 13455. Many thanks! community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

I am looking for a picture of a Tiefling girl, hopefully with a flaming sword, or flames and a sword. A swordmage so no heavy armour if possible. Also a demure appearance rather than mistriss hell-leather dominatrix would be preferred (this last point seems to be where I am failing in my own searches). Anyone have one?

The sword should be the easiest part to add so is this any good?
