The Ten-Minute Background of Tsai Wu Yang, August Minster of the Heavens, Hobgoblin Cosmic Sorcerer

Background: "All are beneath the Ten Thousand Wonders. Their complex motions guide our actions. Everything is as it should be under Heaven."

Spoiler: Show
1) This one was born and grew up in scholarly settings, where a good education was considered essential to one's future success. This one developed an affinity for and understanding of the workings of The Ten Thousand Wonders that lie above us, and the cycles and workings thereof. Proficiency with magic followed shortly thereafter.

2) This one remembers the glorious call to arms of The Rising Sun Empire, and enlisted as an officer in the army of the Ten Thousand Fangs. Our goal was noble--to bring our enlightened culture to the barbarians who dwelled in squalor and ignorance, unable to achieve enlightenment and release themselves from the Great Wheel of Rebirth. This one participated in many glorious campaigns. Our leader, General Nobunaga, said so.

3) However, this one was not so certain that our campaigns were entirely glorious. The battles with the empire of Khem and Arkhosia seemed to this one to focus more on the pacification and subjugation of the native people than the teaching of our enlightened culture and ways. Those so captured were not taught, only used, and that bothered this one.

4) As an officer of some small measure, this one decided to act. This one sent a strongly worded missive to General Nobunaga, decrying the brutality empolyed against those we were meant to educate, and calling for an investigation into certain abuses this one had observed among the other officers of the army, undertaken for their own enrichment rather than the profit of the lesser people we had come to save from themselves. This one hoped to open discourse and encourage reform. What this one recieved were Red Fist assassins in the night. One message was sent, and another was recieved, loud and clear. There would be no change from within.

5) So this one took his leave of his post, shamed by his dishonor at doing so but convinced that it was the proper response. The Emperor must be informed of the excesses of this one's comrades, and hopefully General Nobunaga will be recalled and a less corrupt general will replace him. But this one only has the clothes on his back, his ritual implements, and a few coins, and must now dwell among uncivilized barbarians. This one will make the best of his circumstances, and do his utmost to use these circumstances to his advantage. Heaven alone sees all.

Goals:

Spoiler: Show
1) This one seeks to make the best of his unfortunate circumstances, and use them to deepen his understanding of The Ways of Heaven. Surivial is primary for the moment.

2) This one does not wish to remain in exile forever. This one would very much like to ensure that a message reaches the Most August Emperor, informing him of the excesses and brutality the Army of the Ten Thousand Fangs wages in his holy name, and entreat him to effect such changes as are necessary to return the army to its true goal of showing the best our civilization has to offer to the barbarians, rather than the worst.

Secrets:

Spoiler: Show
1) This one is certain that General Nobunaga has, by now, learned of his survival, and is seeking him vigorously to silence this one before he can inform the Emperor of his failings. This one believes he will have another unfortuante encounter with the Red Fist, and seeks to avoid such a meeting.

2) This one is not aware that his missive never reached the General, only traveling to his immediate superior Li Fang Mai, who, unwilling to let information of his corruption become known, decided to silence his critic. It is unknown whether the Army of the Ten Thousand Fangs is truly as brutal and corrupt as it is painted, and how far the brutality actually extends.

3) Reserved for the DM.

Contacts:

Spoiler: Show
1) This one, sadly, has made few friends in this land, as many are suspicious of his motives and his prior association with the Army of the Ten Thousand Fangs. There has been one, a human of the Khem people, who has been willing to assist him, perhaps out of pity, perhaps because she realizes this one needed a friend. Her name is Iset, and she runs the inn this one has been dwelling since his exile began.

2) This one was not alone in his misgivings about his fellow officers. Miyamoto Tomotoki is a soldier, and a very good one. His squad served under this one's guidance, and this one often consulted with him on matters of strategy. This one hopes to get in contact with Tomotoki again, as he may prove a valuable ally in sending word to the Emperor.

3) Li Feng Mai, the August Caller of Supernatural Beasts and Monsters, is the overseer of the activities of the Army of Ten Thousand Fangs in this region. He is an insufferable egotist, and is responsible for much of the shocking butchery and enslavement this one is so against. It is he that this one wrote most strongly of in his missive, and this one would like to avoid his attentions if possible.

Description, Mannerisms, Quirks:

Spoiler: Show
1) This one, humble as he is, tends to refer to himself in the third person, as a demonstration of his humilty and piety to The Way.

2) This one dresses in a fine yellow robes made of silk, enchanted to provide him some protection against attack. He also has aquired a blue coat with a high collar patterned with stars that allows him to step between worlds briefly and out of danger. His hair is patterned in the traditional stlye, worn long and braided, and his bead and mustache follow suit. He has allowed his fingernails to grow to a prodigious length.

3) This one is convinced that his culture is excellent and most worthy of consideration, though there are a few barbarian practices that intrigue him. He often wonders why the native people reject his empire's clearly superior ways, but he is learning to keep his opninons to himself on these matters.

Design notes Show
I'm taking a brief break from DMing, handing the reins over to another one of my players for the next few weeks. I get to be a player again! It's still set in my world, but in a part of it I haven't done a lot of detail work on besides the basics, so I get to explore my own world a bit. It's quite exciting and rather creativity inducing.

I've established that the hobgoblins of my world have a Chinese Fantasy Counterpart Culture, so I thought it would be fun to play a character from it. Of course, that makes me a member of the villains of this one-shot game, which makes things interesting.

Not done yet, but I want to keep this somewhere for reference and quick editing. The Character is named after the god he worships and his father is unnamed, I'm terrible at naming. Doppelganger Bard.

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character.

Spoiler: Show
1: Lived for years as a homeless busker in a variety of cities.
2: Raised by his father, who was a theif but turned to an honest, if less profitable line of work when he had a son. He didn't want his son to grow up stealing.
3: His father, a human, told Corellon tales of his mothers beauty, and that he inherited his shape changing ability from her. She left shortly after Corellon was born.
4: Corellon loves to travel, meet new people, and see new things. It saddens him that he is usually unable to get too close to people because he always leaves.
5: Corellon doesn't travel strictly for pleasure. Corellon said goodbye to his father when his wanderlust got the best of him, and now he searches for his mother far and wide.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

Spoiler: Show
1: Find clues to locate his mother, or at least other doppelgangers. Born in a human community, Corellon doesn't know anything about where his contemporaries keep their communities, but his mother undoubtedly came from one of them. They may not even be native to the mortal plane.
2: Get him hooked in some way to the main plot, preventing Far Realm creatures from invading and destroying the Mortal Plane.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.

Spoiler: Show
1: Don't know yet.
2: Ooh, maybe his mother is from the Far Realm.
3: Reserved for DM.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

Spoiler: Show
1: Corellons father, Blank. Blank misses his son quite a bit, and loved Corellons mother with all his heart. He has turned back to a life of crime now that the only beings he ever truly loved have both left him.
2: Ilana, Corellons first love. Ilana is in line to inherit a small kingdom, though very far near the end of that line, and she met Corellon while auditioning performers to play at her uncles wedding. She fell in love with Corellon and they were engaged for nearly three months, until she learned that Corellon wasn't human. She became rather disenchanted to learn that her fiance could be anyone, and she decided he could no longer be trusted.
3: Someone that Corellon conned out of a lot of money. TBD.

Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has.

Spoiler: Show
1: Once, he stole a few coins from a careless grocer. Blank admonished Corellon, and explained to him why stealing was wrong.
2: Corellon convinced a man to give him 10 GP under false pretenses using his shape change ability. He knew that lying is the same as stealing, but did it anyway because he's very good at it.
3: Corellon lied his way into spectating at a wizarding competition for free, and was enraptured by the beauty of the magic. this was the first time he realized that magic was art, and vice versa, and every form of art has a bit of magic in it, and vice versa.

Background of Circus, Clockwork Remnant of the Mourneland, Lawful Evil Rogue/Bard

Concept
Spoiler: Show

1. A Revenant Warforged, the entirety of Circus's inner organics rotted away from endless seasons of death. Its resurrection is due largely in part to the array of clockwork mechanics placed within its body, allowing for the same movement and martial prowess it possessed when it could still be considered 'living.'

2. Was a proud executor to the Lord of Blades, acting on behalf of the leader in matters of diplomacy and murder. Circus once held him in absolute loyalty, although brief flashes of memory explain that Circus left the Mourneland and the Lord behind prior to its death.

3. Circus never paid much attention to the idea of living while it was under the Lord's command. It regarded itself merely as a tool, a construct to further the purpose and will of its comrades. Now, Circus is surprised to know a life after death, and is even more astounded to learn that although it can willingly stop the ticking in its body, it does not return to Oblivion.

4. Named for the circular rune that decorates its forehead. Despite its beliefs in regard to purpose, it developed a hobby and taste for theatricality. When confronted about it, Circus will dismiss such things as means to an end for diplomatic reasons, but its love runs deep.

5. Throughout its life, Circus developed and held onto a number of traits it uses to great effect: social etiquette, personal honor, and an impeccable grasp of language.[/SBLOCK]

Goals
Spoiler: Show

1. To find out the details surrounding its death, as well as attempting to find out what purpose, what task it was trying to fulfill before it died.

2. To return to the Mourneland, to the Lord of Blades, and beg forgiveness for its long absence. [/SBLOCK]

Secrets
Spoiler: Show

1. It spends the time it has alone acting out passages in books and plays, becoming incredibly embarrassed if someone were to discover it doing so.

2. Circus believes the clockwork within its body allows it to live beyond its first death, disregarding the unsettling notion that it still exists even when all the parts stop moving. In reality, a number of sigils adorn the clockwork 'heart' within its chest, and it is these markings that act as an ark to house the soul, the original lifeforce it was imbued with when first built.[/SBLOCK]

Connections
Spoiler: Show

1. Lord of Blades: Circus held the Warforged leader in absolute trust, doing whatever and killing whoever the Lord demanded. Yet, despite all its time serving the Lord, a distaste of living creatures never rubbed off on Circus.

2. Lathe: A Goblin Inventor, as well as Circus's resuscitator. Lathe was the one that installed all the clockwork within its body, but only after discovering the adorned heart already implanted in Circus. In the first months of rebirth, it studied under Lathe, and it now considers itself an inventor because of his influence.

3. Grin: A Warforged Engineer. Grin was the first face Circus awoke to in its life. However, instead of welcoming Circus to existence, Grin held it in contempt for unknown reasons. Because of Grin, Circus has developed certain, peculiar fears.[/SBLOCK]

Memories
Spoiler: Show

1. Circus's first memory is that of the razor sharp teeth placed within Grin's jaws. The first thing it ever saw was a vicious smile, and as a result, Circus has a great fear of teeth. Circus dislikes them so much that it removed its original Warforged face in place of several masks it uses to display emotion.

2. When Lathe supposedly brought it back from death. Much of its chest was impacted almost to the point of fragmentation, and the repair traded caution for urgency. Circus now wears a tattered grey cloak and multiple leather straps both to hold itself together and to hide the clockwork vulnerabilities in its body.

3. Its most important memory is also the one with the least clarity, Circus's departure from the Mourneland and from the Lord of Blades. It remembers the Lord as a demanding, hypnotically charismatic figure, and to this day it does not understand how it was able to leave the Lord's side without incident.[/SBLOCK]

Quirks
Spoiler: Show

1. Circus is a cool, collected, calculated individual. However, when dealing with certain subjects, it becomes almost giddy with fascination. Acting, juggling, and manipulating people are its strongest suits. Most recently, it has become enamored with Illusionist magic, despite having no talent in dealing with the arcane.

2. Circus finds the act of preparing for a mission soothing. Checking and rechecking the various thieves tools, inventors implements, throwing knives, and alchemical reagents stored within its body, the essential items to any good rogue.

3. Its love for theatricality goes so far that Circus attempts to play a part in any show or performance going on in a local town. Surprisingly, Circus can emote well, despite having a limited amount of facial expressions.[/SBLOCK]

Here goes:

Svein, CG Half-Orc Barbarian

1. Background and concepts:

-Svein's father, Yorick, was a farmer in a small settlement to the north. When he was still relatively young, Yorick was drafted into the army, leaving his wife and three kids to look after the farm. He left with nothing but his ancestral heirloom sword, and he came back a couple years later with a half-orc baby in his arms. Yorick refuses to tell how the baby Svein came to be in his care, but those who look past the differences can see Yorick's features in the boy.

-Svein's human ancestors(to say nothing of the orcs) were warriors, and he feels an urge to be one as well. The urge to stand in triumph over a broken foe, the flush of a victory well earned, these are things he lives for.

-As a child, Svein was often found with sticks he pretended were swords, fighting off imaginary foes. As soon as his father felt he was old enough, he trained Svein to use the family sword.

-his closest friend growing up was his littlest sister, born about a year after Yorick returned home. Her name was Helen. Svein got on poorly with his older siblings, who felt that Svein was an interloper in their family life, but Helen accepted him, which is pretty big for a half-orc.

-Svein ended up in a fight with one or more of the village boys about once a month, usually due to his mixed heritage.

-As the youngest of three sons, Svein knew that his inheritance would not amount to a lot, that the farm would likely go to one of his brothers, or get split up between them. This, in conjunction with his desire to be a warrior, led him to the adventuring life. His father was very understanding, having gone on an adventure in his own youth, and so he passed the family sword to Svein.

2.Goals:

-Svein desires the good things in life, as he sees them: money, nice things, pretty women, good food, and glory in battle.
-I'd like to see Svein discover more about the circumstances surrounding his parentage, though the details are up to the DM.
-Svein would like to make amends for the people he stole from(see secrets)

3. Secrets:

-Svein tries to act tough, but he actually has a soft spot for small, helpless things, like kittens, children, even rats.

-Svein still cares for a girl from his village, Elaine, though he's convinced she only thought of him as a friend.

-The feelings were mutual, and some weeks after Svein left, she tried to follow. What happened with that is DM's call.

-When Svein first got out on his own, he fell in with a group of bandits and horse-thieves. His conscience got him out of there before too long, but he still feels bad about it.

4.Contacts:

-Yorick, Svein's father, would still help Svein in any way he could. Although it is not a well known fact, Svein is his favorite son, for his passion and ambition. Yorick is entering his late forties, however, and has his own life to tend to.

-Father Ewan McClanahan, a cleric in a small town south of were Svein grew up. When Svein split from the bandits, Father McClanahan helped him get back on his feet, and on the right path.

-Gandon, a peer from Svein's hometown. Gandon was the primary instigator of attempts to bully Svein, largely due to jealousy over Elaine. The two each bear scars from the others fists.

Memories of Note:

-When he was 15, Gandon brought 5 village boys to fight Svein at once. Svein fought back viciously, and ended up giving Gandon a brutal headbutt that gave him a concussion. After, Svein threw back his head and roared with all his primal might, sending the other boys running. His first Roar of Triumph.

-Svein remembers sitting with his grandfather, Thorvald, by the fireplace, hearing tales of his ancestors' glory in battle, each of them wielding the sword that then was hanging off the mantle.

-He remembers his first time training with the family sword, he could feel all his ancestors' spirits in the blade, their memories guiding his arms as he went through the forms.

Description, Mannerisms, Quirks:

-Svein is 6'3" and 220lbs. He has light brown skin and blue eyes. Keeps his head shaved bald. He bears the tattoos that the warriors of his tribe used to decorate themselves with generations ago. These consist mainly of claw-shapes, sometimes intertwined, running along his collar bone, with one rune on his forehead. He wears no helmet, and has armor designed in such a way as to leave the tattoos on his chest visible at all times. He wears light hide armor, just enough to give protection in a few vital places.

Welp, here's the background of my first real character Ramiel Oundra, and my first post here. It's the Savade Tide campaign path, if anyone recognizes it. He's just start out at "this time", but he has already completed his first goal.

The Ten-Minute Background of Ramiel Oundra, the Opportunist—Human Rogue/Swashbuckler, Neutral

Step 1: write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character. You don’t have to stop at five, if you like…this is just a minimum.

Spoiler: Show
“Liar. Thief. Scoundrel. Craven. People see fit to name me those things. But, which one of us has my blade in his back, my friend?”

1) Ramiel was more or less a street urchin who grew up on the streets of Shadowshore, in Sasserine.
2) Most of his early childhood was spent moving from orphanage to orphanage until Ramiel struck out on his own, stealing what little food and money he could to survive.
3) When he was 7, Ramiel managed to stow away on the ship “Raven’s Claw” in the hopes of it taking him to greener pastures. It did...in a sense.
4) It was here the Ramiel found his love for the sea. Out of a stroke of luck (at least, he says it was) Ramiel was discovered the same day the previous cabin boy fell overboard, and lost at sea. The ship’s captain made him cabin boy out of necessity. Over the next decade, he became the Captain’s first mate.
5) After a disagreement over something Ramiel can scarcely recall, he left the ship and returned to Sasserine.
6) He spent the next few years dealing stole goods on Sasserine’s black market earning him the nickname “The Prince of Thieves”, mocking his unusually well manner of speaking.

Step 2: List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game.

Spoiler: Show
“It’s funny. Despite living alone all those years, I did have parents after all; Shadowshore and the sea.”

1) Ramiel’s greatest quest his to Captain a ship of his own.
2) Shadowshore has fallen in to squalor in the recent years. Mostly, it’s a horrible place to live. Ramiel would like to see it raised to a place of glory, be it from his hands or another’s.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.

Spoiler: Show
“There is a lot people don’t know about me. There is a lot I don’t know about myself.”

1) [Known] - Ramiel is a bit of a hunted man. From what he could gather, for some reason Vico Benevin wants him dead. He tends to tell no one, just in case. Regardless, this is just another reason for Ramiel to take to the sea again.
2) [Unknown] - Ramiel is in fact the bastard son of the current Dawn Council representative for Shadowshore, Emil Draktus. This could easily be a claim for the position as any other in Shadowshore, provided Ramiel knew.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

Spoiler: Show
“You know, for all the people I know...you’re one of them.”

1) Tormod, mercenary of the Notched Axe. Former shipmate, the two grew close over the years at sea. Opposites in nearly every way, there isn`t much one wouldn`t do for the other.
2) Dancy, a voluptuous lady of the evening, who Ramiel tends to visit on occasion. Despite her occupation, she is as smart as a tack, and a tongue to match. Ramiel has yet to leave her unsatisfied.

1) Honest Brank, owner of Honest Brank’s, a moneylender. More than once Ramiel has managed to wriggle himself out of debt from Brank, but the last time went too far, and it’s time to collect.

Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavour.

Spoiler: Show
“I have yet to forget a face, or the idiot who owns it.”

1) Ramiel remembers the first time in the crow`s nest, and the feel of peace and calm the sea brought.
2) Ramiel remembers how cold sleeping on the streets was as a child.
3) Ramiel remembers how exhilarating his first fight was.

The Ten-Minute Background of Regret, Servant of the Divine Judge — Tiefling Avenger, Unaligned

Step 1: Five essential things about Regret's background.

Spoiler: Show

1.  Regret is a foundling left at the door of the Temple of the Lawgiver in Bor Calabora, and was raised by the temple's priests, who molded him into the holy warrior he grew up to become.  He knows no other life but that of the holy warrior.
2.  He has been raised with the knowledge that his people, the Tiefling's, are tainted by some ancient evil, and that most Tieflings will die only to face the Divine Judge's righteous anger at their sins.  Thus, he is shamed by his people's sins, and strives to redeem himself for the sin of existing.
3.  He was never given a name by those who raised him; rather, he was only ever called "boy".  "Regret" was a name given to him by the first friend he ever made outside of the temple; Regret felt it suited him, and has vowed to not seek a name of his own until he receives some sign from the Lawgiver that he has earned the right to one.
4.  Life in the wider world is confusing and frightening to Regret, who was raised in a much more regimented environment.  He doesn't relate well to people, other than the small group of friends he travels with, and he often wonders why those same friends seem to like him so much.
5) He loves one of his adventuring companions, the elf-maid sorcerer Yareldis with all his heart, though he has not realized that love is what he feels.  All he knows is that her voice causes his stomach to flutter, and at her touch he becomes tongue-tied and nervous.  She, of course, has no idea about his feelings.

Step 2: List two goals for the character.

Spoiler: Show

1.  Regret wishes to earn his own name in the eyes of the Divine Judge by dying in combat against some great evil.  He's not suicidal, but rather believes that dying in the service of his god would be the best way to redeemy what he sees as the innately wicked nature of his people.
2.  Regret has sworn to hunt down and slay the warlock and demonologist Ighazb Boud.  The warlock's many crimes have brought this judgment in the name of the Divine Judge.

Step 3: List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.

Spoiler: Show

1.  (Known) The glaive Regret uses in combat is not an ordinary weapon, but rather is one of the legendary long-lost Five Fists of the Judge, a set of divine weapons created by the Lawgiver himself.  Secretly, he feels more pride than he probably should in the fact that he, as unworthy as he is, has been chosen to bear such a weapon into combat for the Divine Judge.  Because he fears the weapon being confiscated or stolen, he has told no one.
2.  (Unknown)  Regret isn't a foundling.  Rather, he is the son of the demon-pacted warlock Ighazb Boud.  One of the priests who raised Regret was an adventurer, who "captured" an infant Regret from a raid on his father's cave-lair.  The priest brought the tiefling child back to the temple, where he was raised to be the weapon prophecy says is needed to end the scourge of the warlock's evil.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

Spoiler: Show

1.  Yareldis, an elven sorcerer and adventuring companion.  She considers Regret to be one of her closest friends and confides everything with him.  She has absolutely no clue about his feelings for her.  Instead, she only has eyes for Pyren, the half-elven leader of the company.
2.  Father Malthus, the priest to whom Regret looks as a father figure.  He has carefully guided Regret in what is right and wrong, and hopes his training of the boy will be enough when it comes time to face his father.
3.  Raninoc, Paladin of the Lawgiver.  Raninoc sees himself as a True Warrior on behalf of the Divine Judge, and is envious and angry over the fact that few of his own accomplishments (and there have been many) have ever been recognized by the priests of the temple.  He cannot stomach how a creature mired in sin and evil as Regret is could possibly be looked upon as some sort of "champion" by the priests of the Lawgiver, and has sworn to show the world Regret's true nature.

Step 5: Describe three of the character's memories.

Spoiler: Show

1.  Regret remembers the first time he killed another person.  The person was a criminal who had broken the highest law, and Regret did his duty as required by his god.  It was a good feeling.
2.  Regret remembers the first time he ate a cherry.  It has a pleasant taste, but what made it special was the laughing way in which Yaraldis popped the rare and expensive fruit into his mouth.
3) Regret remembers the first night after he found the glaive... and the way the glaive whispered secrets into his dreams as he slept...

The Ten-Minute Background of Ravern V'Tasi, polymorphed Kenku monk

Step 1

Spoiler: Show
1. A former student of the School of the White Soul of Creation, Ravern now travels to seek the truth of his master's school.

2. He is usually a stoic soul, but will take command if a situation demands it.

3. While he has a good heart, it does not prevent him from stepping back and allowing karma to take its piece.

4. Ravern has always felt a kinship with the sky, and has wonders why its clarion call affects him so.

5. While it is difficult to locate him, Ravern keeps a moderately up to date web of contacts among the local nobility. When someone needs to send a message to him, they will approach his solicitor, Sir Rahl Bradshaw, who has ways of getting a message to him.

Step 2

Spoiler: Show
1. I'd love to see Ravern discover the real secrets of the School of the White Soul of Creation, and maybe learn why his former teacher was corrupted.

2. I want Ravern to incorporate a greatspear into his monk disciplines over the course of this campaign.

Step 3

Spoiler: Show
1. The School of the White Soul of creation is actually a third of a combined discipline, that was split in order to prevent its power from being misused. Ravern knows the names of the other two disciplines, but not what has become of them. While content to refine his art, he can be roused into motion by any information of the two lost schools, or what became of the original master of the WSoC.

2. Ravern is actually a Kenku who was irreversably polymorphed into human form at a young age. With everyone who knew that secret dead or missing, Ravern has no idea of his real origin, or the conditions of his birth.

Step 4

Spoiler: Show
1. Ravern has a close friend and ally in Sir Rahl Bradshaw, a solicitor of the coastal city of Fernwood. Rahl was introduced to Ravern during a siege on Fernwood by a powerful necromancer, whom Ravern and his friends defeated, saving the town. While initially tense, the two became fast friends, with the aide of a keen tea and a little bourbon. That Ravern had brought hope to the compound Rahl called home after being cut off from the city for weeks also strengthened their friendship. Rahl provides Ravern with information and contacts- and the occasional adventuring hook.

2. Muriel Duskmantle was once a companion of Ravern's, however during a quest to defeat a dragon, Muriel was corrupted by the promise of power. As a Dragon Shaman (Technically a Dragon Sorceror), the attention that mighty beast laid on her was too much, and she turned on Ravern. He barely escaped with his life, and the two have had icy confrontations in the years since, usually when Ravern foils one of her attempts to complete a mission for her master.

3. Ashtan Redcloak is a sometime acquantaince of Ravern, who practices the old art of archery and arrowskill. The two met after the 'Rain of Fire' incident outside of Greater Rotar, when Ashtan's troupe rescued the (then) mad monk from a passing patrol of Fire Genasi. Ravern, having been heavily poisoned by a then unknown nemesis (now revealed to be Muriel) was brought back to health by the traveling team of elves, and served along side them in the following conflict. Currently Ashtan is making his own way in the world, but occasionally the two friends cross paths.

Step 5

Spoiler: Show
1. Ravern remembers the opening steps to the Kata of Great Fire, but not the pain it brought when he accidentally invoked a spirit of the elemental chaos with it. This began his introduction into the greater martial arts.

2. Ravern recalls when he left his monastery, to travel with his master in the martial arts and learn the secrets of the School of the WSoC. He remembers the emotions he felt, knowing then as he did now, that he would not see the monks of the Teng-Shan Rann monastery again.

3. Of his treasured memories, Ravern most fiercely remembers that of his master, teaching him the final steps to the Kata of the Grand Tiger, which would represent the first step of Ravern's mastery of the school of the WSoC.

The Ten-minutes background of Casmir Jaggernal, unaligned Warlock of the Dark Pact

Step 1: five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character.
"concept" Show
-    Casmir grew up in a rural community, one day away from the closest large village. The community was rather conservative and distrustful of strangers and “strange things” generally speaking.
-    Around his childhood, strange things began manifesting around him when he was angry, afraid or sad: noise coming from nowhere, flash of lights, sudden gusts of wind. Casmir quickly became a pariah as the rest of the community was convinced he was bringing bad luck around him.
-    His anger and distress grew with time as he was subject to constant mockery, bullying and rejection. His family could not help as they also believed their son was possessed by “something evil” and feared him. They sought advice from wandering priests, who never managed to “fix the kid”.
-    After being on the receiving end of one to many beating sessions, Casmir heard a whisper offering him help to harness his powers, and take revenge on his tormentors. Blinded by anger, he accepted. All inhabitants of his community died that night as he visited house after house, following the instructions of the whisper in his head.
-    Casmir then fled, staying into whatever community would accept him and moving before long to avoid the same cycle of hatred and revenge to renew. He eventually settled in a city large enough that he could maintain a low profile at avoid raising attention.
-    After a while, he discovered he could use his powers in ways different that what the whisper had taught him. At about the same time, he realized the whisper was actually his shadow talking to him (will be treated as a familiar in game mechanisms)

Step 2: list two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game.
"goals" Show
-    Casmir wonder whether he made the right choice by accepting the help of the whisper. The help he received was real, yet there was something more to it as he later discovered. He since learned there is nothing such as free help, so he wonders want the whisper will ask in return when times come. He hopes he can refuse to accept what he will be asked.
-    Casmir knows that self-control is key to being himself. When he lets go and follow the whispers of his shadow, the world becomes an orgy of violence, suffering and death. He needs to find emotional balance and stability, but also to become more self-reliant to weaken the grip his shadow has over himself.
-    I want to explore relations between Casmir and regular NPCs and bring him more peace of mind as he starts to get a better control over his powers (which will translate into sorcerer PMC in game mechanisms).

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.
"secrets" Show
-    The destruction of Casmir’s community was deemed to be a gnoll pack attack. All bodies were not recovered, which were assumed to be eaten. Yet some wandered why there was no sign of fighting, and this has been a staple of investigation courses at the local university since. Only Casmir knows the truth, and he’s sworn not to tell anyone.
-    A villager of Casmir’s community was a member of a secret order dealing with evil manifestations. She never deemed Casmir important enough to justify hemp or support, but had time to send a message to her order about the boy before dying. The order has been trying to track and deal with Casmir since, but has so far been unable to locate him.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.
"related NPCs" Show
-    Mew is a big stray cat that Casmir found wounded in a gutter. He took it with him, sheltered it and fed it while the cat was recovering. Mew is an affectionate companion that likes to be petted by Casmir but bites anyone else that approaches it. Mew has started to accept Ilda recently.
-    Ilda is a female rogue that took Casmir under her wings when he arrived in town. The two have had their share of ordeals, and offer support and confort to each other in times of needs. She introduced Casmir to some of the skills of her trade, and they are occasionally business partners. She appreciates his focus and dedication to what he’s doing, but has witnessed his outburst of fury once, and is a little afraid of him since.
-    Oris Wisenheim is the priest of a church in the town Casmir lives in. A deva, he has been fighting dark spirits in more incarnations than he can remember. He met Casmir one by chance, and had a flashback of the beings he used to fight against. He knows there’s something wrong with the boy, but doesn’t know what yet. He also has to find his whereabouts in the city.

Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavour.
"Memories" Show
-    The abuse and humiliations suffered at the hand of his community when he was a child, and how much he hated them for it.
-    The night the whispers came and let him took revenge. The smell of seared flesh, their throats gasping for air as poison filled their lungs, the horror in their bodies shrivelled and rot away. How good it felt to be powerful, how satisfying it was to terminate them like the pests they were _ and the guilt that emerged, later, after the thrill of the kill had cooled down.
-    How scared he when he first realized that his shadow was moving on its own and addressing him. He has gotten used to it since, but still has nightmares in which it looks down upon him, and start abusing him. Those nights usually end up in discussions with Ilda.
