Hmmm...that's a good idea Stray - I think I'll try that for a char.
On a related note, I changed Malydion's rival to a Warlock, from Warlord, as it just made more sense. In addition, I want to explore the power hungry, deluded slave of the Sidhe in more detail, so I will be posting his TMB soon.
Caseio Peia. [1] 1) Mother wished upon a star for her baby, the star answered her wish 2) Daddy long-ears and mommy long-ears always fought because my ears are so short. 3) Every night when I go to bed, I listen to the sounds of the stars as they sing me to sleep. 4) One night the stars told me a pretty song to sing, but no-one else thought the song was pretty, they held their ears and all went to sleep. 5) Star light, star blight, first star I see this fright, I wish I may, I wish I plight, grant this Wish I wish Black-light.
[2] 1) The stars want me to shine everyone with their light, its so beautiful that everyone falls over in wonder. 2) The blackstar says he wants me to grow up big and strong that I can be the living gate for the everflowing gift of the bloodlord, isn’t that wonderful!
[3] 1) Sometimes, when I think really hard about it, I can see all the world just the way the blackstar wants it, everything is so pretty with all of everyone’s red water raining up into the sky to make big pink clouds, Tee-hee! 2) Casey is half elf only in name, her true origins are far more vile from her elf mother and a single maggot that snuck inside.
[4] 1) Blackstar is Caseio’s best friend, he tells her such silly things and shows her his pretty pictures, he even lets her show other people what she sees
2) Pay-lore is not Casey’s friend, he is soo bright and loud all day long, casey can barely hear her friends when he is out talking to all his friends.
3) All the stars are her friends, except that noisy pay-lore, and they play all sorts of games with her like trying to put other peoples body jellies into pretty patterns like the stars in the sky.
[5] 1) She remembers the first time Blackstar talked to her, he told her one word over and over until she could say it too and it turned her pet cat into a statue, how cool! 2) every night the stars sing their songs to her, filling her head with such pretty dreams of the red worms crawling out the infants pores, sweating the seeds of new harvest upon the world 3) Recently the star have been singing to her of the murder of crows flocking toward the hill of far seeing seas, she seems to almost sleepwalk while she sings through towns, putting everyone to sleep as she makes the stars shine so brightly with her lullaby.
[This woman is an insane starlock, choosing between a grown adult with infantile delusional insanity, or simply schizophrenic child in pigtails.]
I absolutely adore this thread. I'm more of a GiantITPer, but I had to come post here just for this. So without further ado, Thieran ac Telecontar, *deep breath* the eccentric holy swashbuckling rogue-mage I'm playing in a PbP where the players are creating the world as we go.
1. Thieran was born into a high-ranking Kathorian family, his father being a courtier at Tan Anor, the capitol. At a young age, he found his rhymes and songs producing minor magical effects. 2. As he went through school, his teachers found him lacking in physical strength but unparalelled in swordfighting and his zeal for knowledge set him apart from his peers. 3. As he grew into adulthood, he pledged his skills and life to three of the Kathorian saints - the war god Kor, the thieves' god Razta'alin (yes, THAT Raz), and the goddess of knowledge Ioun. He had custom-made a holy symbol that had Kor's broadsword, Ioun's open book and lamp and Raz's fox on it. 4. His major branch of study as he graduated from school was working on the study of the ancient Asuran civilization with the Eladrin priest and librarian Finolan. Thieran quickly mastered the obscure Asuran language, which is as close to modern Elvish as old germanic is to english. Thieran's talent for magic blossomed chanting old Asuran rhymes, especially ones involving illusions or the wind. 5. At the age of nineteen, Thieran began to travel across Kathor correcting wrongs and setting things right; whether with his quick tongue, quicker blade or his spells. Recently, he set out across former Kathorian territory to Cerrynt to save the people of Cerrynt from their possibly insane baron, who was razing villages and kidnapping their residents.
1. I want Thieran to eventually show his darker side - he's normally wild and madcap but he gets very serious and dangerous at times - he's pledged to the god of war after all. 2. I also want Thieran to eventually meet someone to love - this is a wild card in his life that he's never experienced at all yet. Even in fantasy worlds, nerds don't get dates.
1. Thieran has fought side-by-side with the Brothers of Kor before, and saved the life of a warrior named Math. Math is now the Grand Master of the Brothers of Kor, and still owes Thieran his life. 2. The ancient magic of the Asurans has awoken in Thieran's veins, encouraged by Ioun. Though Kor dislikes it, it brings Thieran closer to Razta'alin's ideal and Kor can do nothing. Eventually Thieran will realize this, but for now he has no idea.
1. Finolan, Chief Librarian of Tan Anor, is Thieran's best friend. After Castamir's Coup while Thieran was traveling, Finolan casts Sending every few months to warn Thieran about Kathor's political climate. When Thieran is resting in Tan Anor, they love to study the Asurans together. 2. Math ran Gwython enjoys Thieran's wild and crazy personality, which starkly contrasts with the cultured, quiet templars he has to interact with on a daily basis. The two friends rarely meet outside of Kor's monastery in Tan Anor, with Thieran running around being a hero and Math fighting the Tanisians in the north. 3. Alcan tan Odyssa is a Brother of Kor, a Master of Blades and a skilled warrior. He hates the over-acting fop, as he sees Thieran, and especially hates the special place Thieran has in his superior's heart. Alcan would do anything short of breaking his vows to hurt Thieran.
1. Thieran remembers sharply the sleepless night he spent in the temples of Kor, Razta'alin and Ioun swearing his blade and life to the saints and hallowed. 2. Thieran remembers the breakthrough he had deciphering the obscure Asuran tale Cathl Chan Elphaba'r. He then memorized the entire tale in Trading tongue. 3. Thieran can remember the first time he picked up his signature Kathorian Sciabotha in a temple of Kor. An hour later the blade was belted at his side.
I had an afternoon to make this guy, and forgot to use the Ten-Minute Background. This helped flesh out his background - even though I had to improvise on a few things. Thieran's kind of a holy blend between the Rogue-Mage Raz and David Tennant's Doctor, coming from a Gondorian-Welsh culture.

Wow! Thanks for the praise, and let me say on behalf of the other TMBers: Welcome to the madness! :D

...I love worldbuilding.
I'm glad it helped. I've noticed that it works to focus on all aspects of a character, aspects that some people don't think about (the contacts especially...most players just don't often think about whom they might be able to turn to for help).
Gorlvin was orginially built as a groundskeeper and heavy-worker by a widower archmage. This later evolved into helping take care of the archmage's eight year old daughter when the archmage's wife passed away.
when the archmage's daughter, Oliira, was 14 the archmage finally succumbed to grief at the loss of his wife and passed away. This left Gorlvin as the "parent-figure," a roll it came to cherish.
One of the archmage's former apprentices, Wizard Thalvir, came back after hearing of his master's death. Thalvir agreed to hold the archmage's tower in trust and to continue teaching Oliira. Gorlvin was content to allow this, it had no magical apptitude, and maintained a parental guidance over Oliira.
A few years after Oliira's 20th birthday she achieved journeyman-wizard status. She also married Thalvir, whom she had fallen in love with. Oliira still turned to Gorlvin for "fatherly" advice and it continued to live with Oliira and Tharlvir.
A jealous rival of Thalvir's, Wizard Hoffin, summoned a demon and sent it after Thalvir and a pregnant Oliira. Gorlvin was in the city buying necessities at the time. It returned to find Thalvir dead and Oliira in a powerful suspended-animation spell.. Wizard Hoffin had fled and Gorlvin swore to break the curse on its beloved Oliira.
Gorlvin hates fighting. It considers itself a peaceforged, not warforged. If confronted it get irritated and attempts to leave.
What Gorlvin doesn't know is that Thalvir isn't dead. The dead body in the tower was that of Hoffin. When the demon attacked Thalvir, Hoffin went along. Hoffin was the one that cursed Oliira (courtesy of a device given to him by a Demon Prince), but in exchange for doing so, forfeited his soul to the demon... immediately. Thalvir was taken prisoner by the demon and the demon, just to sow confusion, transmuted Hoffin's corpse to a likeness of Thalvir.
Oliira - female human wizard. When her mother died Gorlvin was there for her. When her father died Gorlvin assumed those duties as well. Currently in a demon-spell induced stasis.
Thalvir - male human wizard. Took over as wizard when his master the archmage, Oliira's father, passed away. Only four years older than Oliira and a wizard prodigy. Got along well with Gorlvin, and just about everyone else. Still alive but trapped by a demon prince.
Vornkal'Tethuk - male demon solo. A prince of demons, currently has Thalvir captive and has the only "cure" for Oliira. Currently binge drinking Jaeger and eating manes.
1) Grorag Goblinkicker is an odd duck. He clearly have orcish blood in his veins (the green skin and tusks gave that away), but his stature is short and burly, like a dwarf's. He has flaming red hair, with a longish bead and a shock on his head done up in a strange "mohawk" style. His voice is gruff but somewhat high-pitched (picture Beavis doing a Mr. T impression, and you'll have the right idea). 2) Grorag grew up in the Shroudmist Grove, having been found by Lady Leanna Sylverwind as a child. It is no known who, or even what, his parents were. 3) Grorag has a very erratic temperament, and is often gleefully violent. The grove channels his aggression as a warrior hunting the strange beasts that threaten the Shroudmist Forest's vital trade route to the Feywild. 4) Despite his violent tendencies, he is generally good-natured and exuberant, which endears him to the elves who call the grove home. This includes his good friend Lady Topaz. 5) "Grorag think that covers it all pretty good. Grorag not have anything else for this part."
Step 2: "Grorag want to eat. Eat and fight. Fight good. A cat is fine, too."
1) Grorag is a simple soul, who gets to do what he enjoys, so I don't have much in the way of goals for him. He's mainly meant to be a supporting character and comic-relief NPC, like Thog from The Order Of The Stick. And, having written that, I now have the desire to dress up Grorag in a leprechaun outfit...
1) Grorag doesn't have many secrets of his own, but he's aware that Lady Leanna sends him out on missions hunting in the Shroudmist every time a caravan from the Feywild passes through the Grove. He doesn't know why Leanna doesn't want other Eladrin seeing him, and for the most part doesn't care, but it's something he occasionally wonders about. 2) An entity known as The Piper has been organizing attacks against Shroudmist Grove. Part of it's attack is drawing off the Grove's defenders to be slaughtered, and it has identified Grorag as a threat to be eliminated. So far, it has only managed to get him cornered once, but Grorag managed to fight his way out of the ambush. So the Piper has decided to try driving the diminutive dwarf-orc insane through magic, hoping to provoke him into attacking his allies and getting killed. Spoiler:Show
3) Grorag is the result of a sick, degenerate Eugenics experiment perpetrated by The Eladrin Court of Avaleron, as part of their program to create a race of disposable shock troops. The experiments that created Grorag were deemed too expensive and time-consuming to be viable, and the test subjects were supposed to all be "cleansed". Grorag, however, was smuggled to the World by an eladrin soldier who couldn't bear the thought of destroying an innocent life, and given to Lady Leanna's care.
1) Grorag like Topaz. Topaz friend for long time. Topaz and Tamysin go away, though. That makes Grorag sad. Grorag hope they come back soon. 2) Lady Leanna is powerful druid. Grorag know she take him from the woods when Grorag too small to fight. Lady Leanna talk a lot, sometime scold Grorag when he get in fights, but Lady Leanna not bad person for that. 3) The Piper is evil. Grorag feels it. Grorag hears his creepy flute thing playing in the night, before the Bad Gnomes come. Grorag find Piper, take his flute and shove it up his--
Grorag was inspired by a character I saw someone play in PbP chatroom a long time ago. I thought the character as played was funny and awesome, and so I decided to import it to my game. And, with the advent of the Barbarian preview coming up, I can finally build him for 4e. :D
Yes, some of this is inspired by the "Night Elf Mohawk!" WoW commercial with Mr. T. That just adds a whole layer of funny to the character.
The Ten-Minute Background of Grorag Goblinkicker, [s]Night Elf Mohawk![/s] Half-Orc Barbarian
I'm lovin' it. Some highlights:
[
B]Step 2[/b]: "Grorag want to eat. Eat and fight. Fight good. A cat is fine, too."
If he wants to eat the cat, that's actually an improvement...
He's mainly meant to be a supporting character and comic-relief NPC, like Thog from The Order Of The Stick. And, having written that, I now have the desire to dress up Grorag in a leprechaun outfit...
Fanservice. I always thought it was "Thag", for some reason.
His penultimate secret is pretty cool. An obvious trope, but sure to delight.
Step 4: And now, Grorag in his own words:
Genius. Although only appropriate with characters who know their antagonists.
A great read as always. I've got some barbarians in the works too, and another half-orc, from a 3.5 game I'm in, but before that, I wanted to do a writeup of his religious order. I'll post it soon.
