Already done...one of my PCs is a warforged with no memory of his creation. I have a standing rule--Any PC that gives me a vague background, or one with obvious holes, is telling me "go nuts." Ask me about Nyy sometime...

Sigil: I like the sound of this character, but it could use some fleshing out - maybe a bit more detailed background? On the whole though, I like the concept.

Added a little bit more, I am one of those types who doesn't like to fully flesh out, since I prefer to naturally flesh out my character as more is revealed as the game progresses as it were.

I'll have to look for the original player background, but sure.

So, at the request of Dimitri Knighthawk, here is Nyy, done up in TMB style from the player's background notes. Every section here was written by the player except for the secrets part, which was wholly my own additions, and is an example of the sorts of things I am liable to do when I get a minimalist background such as this.

The Ten-Minute Background of Nyy (told by the girl herself)

Step 1: Background

Background Show
1) Nyy is half-elf from far away land (but Nyy don't know from where). Nyy has dirty blond hair (very dirty) and is kinda pale and thin from living in the woods for so long. Nyy lives in woods 'cause village not there no more.

2)Nyy not live in village anymore. Man in Black come one day and the sun was red and the sky turn black. Daddy, Ryiel and other men-folk went to meet the scary man, but he burnt them alive! After that, everyone screaming...black thing curse them and burn them while he laughed...always laughing...

3) Then Black Thing came for Nyy. Then Ranma barked and howled from behind Nyy and charged the black fire-thing. Black-thing laughed and tore out Ranma's stomach and set his innards on fire as the doggie screamed.

4) Then Nyy heard a voice that said "Run!" Nyy ran while Black-thing was hurting Ranma.

5) Nyy live in woods a long time...hunt with knives and steal things from travelers when they in Nyy's forest. (Nyy like knives...shiny!)

Step 2: Goals

Goals Show
1) Voice say Nyy will be strong one day and kill black-thing. Nyy can't wait until that day.

Step 3: Secrets

Secrets. Since this campaign is over, Players are free to look Show
1) Nyy is much, much older than she looks. She is, in fact, immortal, barring a violent death.
2) The Black Thing was and is The Dark Reaper, Lord of the Undead, who escaped the control of The Raven Lord several thousand years ago and went on a rampage, slaying several demigods and stealing their powers in a bid to destroy The Nine Heroes that had originally killed him in the first place. During the centuries trapped as a spirit, The Dark Reaper has come to despise his former creations and wants to destroy all life, everywhere.
3) "The Voice" was another of the Seven, The Nightmare Prince Verkinx Kazrael. The Nightmare Prince also hates the Nine, but he would prefer to rule over creation rather than destroy it. He spared Nyy's life, and that of twelve other children, because The Dark Reaper killed his daughter, the Goddess Jillian Maeve. The children he saved carried his daughter's mortal bloodline, through which her soul still travels. Verkinx keeps Nyy in the dark about her past, randomly scrambling her memories and keeping everything vague and hazy, to protect her from The Dark Reaper until he feels she has become strong enough to act as a suitable pawn in his bid to destroy the undead god.

Step 4: Contacts

Contacts Show
1) Voice always say things to Nyy, how to live in woods, who is nice or who is bad, how the world really is. Voice is really smart (but talks a lot when Nyy is trying to sleep).
2) Nyy also like doggies and fish.
3) Black Thing came for Nyy. White face like a haggard skull with many silver pointed teeth and long bony white hands under a black cloak. Nyy was scared.

Step 5: Memories

Memories Show
1) Nyy daddy was Mightus who was elf and very important in village. Nyy had brothers and a sister. Oldest brother Ryeil was daddy's favorite because he looked most like elf.
2) Mifa was older sister who was popular with menfolk (Nyy jealous of them)
3) Mamma was Sondra. She nice lady who made stuff from plants (that's why daddy liked her).
4) Nyy had doggie...nice doggie...Ranma was Nyy's best friend.

Design Notes Show
So. Nyy was a half-elven rogue from an artistically-inclined girl who joined my game largely because her boyfriend was our host. She was a good roleplayer, but her artistic strengths were more in drawing pictures and acting than writing. Her background was simple...I've rearranged what she wrote in TMB format, but I haven't changed a whole lot. Nyy spoke in third person with broken english, so this account (except for the DM edits) are actually in first person.

So, I get this background from a player. Aside from a few suggestions, this was basically it. And at the point at which I had this, I hadn't actually run much in my world, so while I had a few things detailed, I didn't have nearly as much detail as I do these days.

But what I had was a demon named Verkinx Kazrael who I knew could possess people, and I had the story of The Dark Reaper, created through divine hubris, who nearly destroyed the world. And so I let my imagination run wild, and combined the two...without the foundation that this background provided, I wouldn't have been as interested in developing both The Dark Reaper and Verkinx Kazrael as I became.

The Nightmare Prince, the thirteen Lost Children, Jillian Maeve the Queen of Air and Darkness, The Shroudmist Forest, and a whole host of other ideas sprang from the seeds this background planted.

...Soveliss is a wizard who adores magical constructs. He has spent centuries refining designs for golems, homonculi, and, recently, warforged. His greatest regret is that he did not develop the idea for the warforged before the dwarves did. He continually tries to outdo advances in Warforged creation techniques, and he is rarely satisfied with the results.

Step 3: "This model is defective. The magical matrix is unstable. Discard it."
--Soveliss Greensteel, about a warforged.

Wow... I've been trying to come up with a plausible background for my warforged warlock (star pact), and it's mostly set, but there's just been something ... missing. I've had him as the creation of an elderly warlock obsessed with power and immortality as he nears the end of his life (and thus playing around with forces beyond his ken in an attempt to transfer his soul into a recovered warforged body), but it just hasn't been quite right -- until now.

Soveliss and his obsession are exactly what I've been looking for. With a few modifications to add elements from my own backstory attempts, I think he's ideal.

Mind if I snag the concept for my character's backstory, Stray?

Go ahead! I certainly hope I've inspired people with my creations...it's one of the reason I've posted many of them here. Would you be willing to post a TMB of this Warforged Starlock?

Once I have all the details worked out, sure! That was always my plan anyway. It's just a matter of finding time to get the ideas out of my head and on to paper/the computer in a coherent fashion.

One thing that I've found helps with this is to try and get the ideas down in an incoherent manner first. Just write, and get down whatever comes to mind. THEN go back and arrange things.
