The difficulty is that Paladin's are now divine knights, which there are few examples of in fiction or television. If you're looking for the "typical" paladin, following the lineage of the AD&D paladin, then Optimus Prime, Parn and Goliath are good examples.
If he's played Warcraft III then Uther Lightbringer and (pre-corruption) Prince Arthas are paladins.
For an excellent example, the Jedi (as previously mentioned). Warriors and mystics, with a holy bent. The Phantom Menace is a good example (Qui Gon and Obi Wan), as is Luke in Return of the Jedi. Likewise, Darth Vader from the original trilogy and Darth Maul or Darth Tyranus/Count Dooku from the new trilogy are examples of less noble Paladins.

Parn is a great example Arthur. As is King Fahn from the same series(he even had a holy sword.) Good picks for the old school type.
