From my understanding, it does 1d10 damage instead of the longsword's 1d8, but has a +2 prof bonus instead of the longsword's +3.

Okay, you caught me. AV is one book I haven't looked very much at. What stats does it have now? In 1e&2e it had a slightly shorter but broader blade than a longsword, and did 2d4 vs Small and Medium opponents and 1d6+1 vs Large, while the longsword did 1d8/1d12.

Actually, a broadsword is longer than the longsword, with a broader blade width near the hilt.

Simple RL broadsword = claymore.

Kind of, in that someone could call a Scottish broadsword a claymore and they would be using correct terminology, but when most people hear the word claymore in reference to swords, they tend to picture the hefty two-handed sword, which is not the same as a broadsword. Broadswords are single-handed affairs, often with a basket hilt, and, as you said, a broader blade.

The Knights of Redcrosse?

They'd all have to be Fey though. Or changelings.

We're moving through things chronologically.

In the interest of staying on topic:

The Holy Host. This would work for any real generic religious order.
