Not sure if this has been mentioned yet (not reading all 7 pages of this post), but the Raven Queen has an awesome aspect to her that none of the other gods I am aware of has--she is a goddess under assault by an ambitious and quite powerful opponent. At her heels is a Demon Prince (yes, Demon Prince) commanding the undead and attempting to usurp her domain.

It really brings a distinct feel to the game to be worshipping an 'almighty' being that still seems to seriously need your help to stamp out her enemies, lest they kill her and ruin things for everyone. It just feels a bit more, epic...

Also, severely disappointed in there not being a Heironeous equivalent in 4e. A lawful good god of war? Sign me up! My paladin doesn't use a hammer or blunt instrument because he 'doesn't want to kill'--my paladin avoids using a weapon until he has to, and if he does, then he doesn't take half measures. A blade is a killing tool, and that's what he uses.

Also, Bahamut should have stayed a minor god as he was in 3.5. Bahamut is a cool aspect to tie-in dragons into the game, but I don't like Bahamut being the major lawful good god of the generic setting. Thank-you Forgotten Realms for setting the record straight, and I'm okay with Torm and Tempus (although still like Heironeous better...). Pelor is, eh...

I too am miffed at Heironeous's "forced retirement."

Personally, I think it's because you get to wear this cool outfit.. I'm sorry, all. I can't see the Raven Queen as Morrigan. She's just not. She's the personification of the Black Plague.

Besides, she's a boring god. I'd rather run with Melora anyday.

Supes' essentially wasting his power.

And i pray that neither you or i ever get that kind of power. We would both use it to bend the world to our wills, and that would be unfair to people who disagree with our views of how things should be.

i don't want to start on a god bashing raven queen better then melora, but i was actually thinking exactly the fact that melora seemed boring mostly because they lumped nature and ocean themes in one pot, she kinda seems like a catch all net. and poor melora doesn't even have sway over the seasons. two human like gods and two fay kin ninja'd that right out of her portfolio.

poor melora has no drama to speak of yet in the books. theres no east coast/ west coast tension for melora or orcus/vecna or inferred gripes with other gods. poor girl has a war right on her doorstep!
butg melora? shes like that bohemian hippy chick that sits in the woods at "spiritual gatherings" smoking wacky.:D she didn't even have much lip work in martial powers. 'cept that rangers kinda are into her =[

raven queen is swinging fists jumping right out of the core books. on top of that she gets all sorts of angsty flack from others who want to hate on her for no other reason besides shes "popular/goth/boring"

i read the martial powers book zousha, theres a little clip of an eladrin who is taking on a sorrow sworn, its debatable if correlon really hates her or if its just anastrianaiananstriana

In my home campaign, the Raven Queen lost. She has been slain and without her to oversee the proper dispersal of souls, things are a mess.

Nobody has mentioned how cool ravens are. Lots of neat myths and imagery around Raven's.

That has been semi brought up with the similarities between Ravens and Crows and thus more Morrigan analogies.

Conflicts don't get me to want to worship gods, what they represent do. Death and Plague are not particularly my cup of tea. Now, Animal Husbandry, and Tooth and Claw fighting, that I can get behind. Law of the Jungle and Law of the Sea don't need some dramatic over the top story. They play themselves out every day, and that's a force I can have a character believe in.

Nothing wrong with the Raven Queen, mind you, but her tenants (keep people from getting sick, kill roaming undead) just don't excite me, no matter how much story you want to pile around it.

conflicts aside, are not ment to have you worship one god over another, they merely answer your statement of boring vs intresting. or dynamic vs static.
don't get me wrong, i love nature and ocean and i think its tragic they havn't played melora against the god of civilization or showed any connection to any other gods besides sehanine... sorta.
this is a fantasy game of course and "over the top" stories draw us to the game :D
nature continues wether it would have a god/goddess or not, its just that primordial. basic. simple.

fate. death. and purpose of a crusade against orcus can stand on its own without a "dramatic over the top story" as well. :embarrass

i will admit i find more intrest in the amazing rather then the common. hunting, chase, kill, live and the laws of nature are rather common and apply to everything, every day.

but as you said the RQ is not everyones cup of tea. there is no arguing that. everything else is subject to debate based on opinion. :D

but i wont take credit for the mounds of story piled at the raven queens feet, thank wizards for that.

Bah. Humakt in a brass brassiere is all the explanation you need.

(And I'm wondering how many people reading this forum know enough about Glorantha to know who Humakt was....)
