Let us remember that planescape tieflings were often only a generation of two removed from their fiendish blood.
The 4e version have been interbreeding for a millennium or so, so whatever starting infernal spark once existed has weakened over time. They are now creatures of the natural world, even moreso than elves. I surmise that this puts their natural lifespans at just over that of a human. Half-Elf scale, say.
Of course, it's a stickier issue whether it's "natural" for a tiefling to die of old age...

Actually it seems that the effects of 4th ED tiefling blood is even more powerful then that of planescape tiefling blood. Even if a 4th ed tiefling takes a human parter the child is still a tiefling. Planescape tieflings' bloodlines seem fade after several generations of breeding with humans though they can reappear later along down the line.

Tieflings are a race descended from ancient humans To me, this implies human lifeline.

4th ed. tieflings are not 3rd ed. tieflings. They aren't the offspring of humans and devils/demons any more, or even the offspring of humans and cambions. They're a human bloodline with a curse.

Ah yes, the cambion question.
How exactly did this work in previous editions? When Graz'zt gets frisky, the result is a cambion (if not severe hemorrhaging), but trysting with a succubus or vrock gets you a tiefling for your troubles?
Niether particularly on nor offtopic here...

Fiend + Mortal = half-fiend. Half-fiend + human= tiefling. Prior to 4th ED.

Honestly I just see them as funky looking humans in the matter of life span, especially considering that the 'Playing a X' flavor block describes the first Tieflings as humans who made pacts with devils to, "solidify their hold over it's (Bael Turath) enormous territory."
But, as with most all things in the D&D world, it's ultimately up to the DM.

Not to seem insulting, but one way to solidify an empire would be to extend it's subjects lifespans. Especially since they'll be facing damnation anyway.
BTW, I appreciate the demonology lesson.

BTW, I appreciate the demonology lesson. On that note, there's the possibility that the devils shortened the lifespans of the humans turned tieflings just so their empire would fall. Seems like a devilish ploy to me.
