The PHB. Although "detail" is a bit extreme. Any book beyond the "core three" also assumed Greyhawk by default.

I think we knew Greyhawk was default because of two major things, really - the pantheon, and the racial descriptions.

What gives you iterative attacks on a Charge?

One level of barbarian and using the complete champion substitution option, barbarian takes lion totem barbarian now has pounce instead of extra 10 feet of movement.

Lions charge. Wasn't looking at itterative attacks at the time, just the attack bonus. So 48 or 46 core. Non core add 3-8 on that.

Well yes if the Balor doesn't try to beat you he won't.

Do you use gate for every encounter? Even if it summons My fighter has a shot.

You can't without going the Pun Pun route. Both creating the item within WBL and using it for free require Artificer class features. Fighters don't get class features.

I consider your staff way higher on the cheese factor than Item Familiar.

If you use Pun Pun as the defense of the fighter, well I'm going to have to call shenanigans.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were doing. Could you explain it?

Clockwork Horrors and anyone with 9th level spells, because it's the only way to dispell high level buffs sadly. Disjunction is a spell that shouldn't be used, but has to be used on a regular basis. Besides it would really suck if you rolled a 1.

True, though most npc casters don't have disjunction listed. Granted the wizards don't have anything listed, but I haven't seen sorcerer have disjunction.

Also there's the problems with Sunder, since your's is a weapon (my item familiar is a weapon crystal and thus last on the list of things to sunder).

Good point, I should use aurom

:shrugs: It keeps people ammused, and even if it isn't on topic it's a fairly interesting discussion when the flames aren't flying. I think the actual topic was resolved in page one or two: people are obsessed about balance because the majority of people find fairness and contributing equally (not passabley, but equally) more fun than the alternative, plus it's easier for new players and DM's than patching an unbalanced system so it's more suited to the group. Saying 'balance is fun' outright though is foolish, because to some people it isn't.

Also, that was about an off-topic comment as humanly possible :P

If I were to offer a theory, I am beginning to think that threads involving fighter debate, at least from 3rd edition have some sort of magnetic power that draw people in and won't let them leave, or for that matter deviate from it as a topic no matter what the initial topic in question was.

Oh yeah, I've seen the same thing with absolutely anything to do with 3.x vs absolutely anything to do with 4th, even if the aspects in question have absolutely nothing to do with eachother :P

I stopped calling it Greyhawk. That's not the issue. Where in the rule books did it suggest that I should outlaw charm spells?

Asked and answered. It's in the campaign settings where FLUFF is put into the game. Why is it put there? BECAUSE IT MAKES SENSE.

Where was I supposed to get this information?

Use your brain.

How were we, as brand new players, supposed to figure this all out?

You should have known it by 5th level.

Had the game been balanced my group and I could have had fun coming out of the gate as opposed to having to find a way to fix the unbalanced game.

Cry me a river. The few broken things wrong with 3ed were easy and quick to fix. Not all of us need everything handed to us on a silver platter.
