And, let's not forget, every time I kept trying to explain that it wasn't a universal truth and that it was an argument on instances and individual games, I was told that that wasn't the point I was trying to make >_<.

Which, admittedly, has been the theme of this thread. Apparently, the people I'm arguing with know more about what I'm trying to convey than I do -- no matter how hard I protest and clarify.

I am seriously starting to hate this thread. Like the thread itself as a whole. As an entity.

No kidding, I'll try to make it clear how that happened.

Original statement

And yet, right this minute, someone somewhere has a putrescence chart they plan to inflict on their players.

Setting a goal post.

If someone, somewhere wants to use a putrescense chart in their game, it causes absolutely NO HARM WHATSOEVER to your game. Or to mine. Or to anyone else's, including the putrescence-chart-user, because he's got a right to play that way if that's how he wants to play,

Meeting the goal.

What about his palyers who woudl rather get on with thier lives, but Jimmy is the only one willing to DM, so they's stuck in roll hell. I've been in those games. Trust me, it hurts the game and makes you feeling the lingering urge to gnaw off your own leg to escape. Thank god it was just a con game.

Changing the goal and straw maning.

ChefJackButler wrote:

Once again, this is nothing but hypotheticals, and once again you can easily ask "What about his players, who enjoy his play style and don't have a problem with it. I am sorry you had a bad experience, but your "wanting to gnaw off your own leg" doesn't mean everyone will.

One more to make the new goal post clear.

ChefJackButler wrote:

Where are you getting this stuff? I'm arguing against a claim that the presence of one table would cause harm to every campaign on the planet.

The goal was changed from "NO HARM WHATSOEVER to your game. Or to mine. Or to anyone else's," to "harm to every campaign on the planet."

Then that was claimed to be your argument.

calronmoonflower]Setting a goal post.

No goal post set by me. I am just tired of being told in every argument the following blatantly obvious truism. "It's a role playing game you can role play it and handle any situation not covered."

This is so obvious everyone knows it. Feel free to talk about why the putrescence chart would suck. Heck I'll probably join in. But if the rejoinder to every argument about something someone feels is not cleanly covered is, "it's a role playing game, role play." I will continue to point out the obviousness of that argument.

I consider you, him and most gamers smart people. We don't need to be told the sky is blue or that we can role play in a role playing game. It has nothing to do with moving any goal posts or anything other than the civility of the discussion to please stop beating the very dead, smelly horse that isn't even disputed by anyone, ever.

Find me the person who disputes that you can role play in a role playing game and then maybe we can break off from this thread and have that discussion.

Well, silly, without a putrescence chart, how can we tell whether or not it's time to stop beating this dead horse or not?

(sorry, but you really can't set 'em up like this and not expect it)

ChefJackButler set that goalpost.

Vaalingrade Ashland's point was where to draw the line. Obviously you have differnt ideas on where it should be set and, where they should be sey is the topic of the thread.

Ah... you mean how every time I said "the rules in this one area could be improved", I was told... by you, among others... that what I was really arguing was "4E SUCKS ASS! BRING BACK 3.5 AND LOAD DOWN THE RULES WITH USELESS ********!"?

Frustrating, isn't it? Perhaps next time you'll stop with the BS and actually respond to someone's actual post rather than what you twist their post into.

Thus endeth the lesson.

So, now that that (whatever it was) is done... apparently... anyone else having trouble understanding just what the thread title had to do at all with what this thread was actually about?

Nope. It's really all very simple:

((Title) * (Grognard rage) + (So-called "Missing" Rules)) * (Doughnuts & Coffee)^(Chainsaw, Duct tape & WD40) = Thread.

See? Easy.

The Faerytale will be told. The only question is - will you play a part?
