But I love me some super beds that cure all damage and heal my AIDS that the harpies gave me D: Back to realism here... This is a matter of opinion here, but sometimes, the books are merely guidelines XD lol! You can always have house rules! You can use old rules or edit the current ones to your liking. It's always been up to you I'm going to assume that you're the DM cuz if you were actually a player, I would wonder why you wouldn't like something like this? Who wants their character lying in bed rest recovering from his wounds for a few weeks. I wanna loot and steal from people now! (rogue) I'm guessing that it's a speed-up to gameplay.

i only just spotted this thread and wanted to share a little story i thought was relevent about the whole 4E healing things. X-POSTED FROM BLOG
On the other table was a young guy running a D&D 4E module (home brewed obviously). I wasn’t paying much attention to his session but bits of it drifted in and out. That is until one particular encounter when the GM utilized the old Rock and a hard place ideal, except this was more a cliff & a group of enemy controllers idea.
Suddenly the PC wizard as the most dangerous person in this encounter gets targeted by all the evil controllers & is pushed off the cliff & falls into negative hit points & is dying. What happened next went a little like this
Warlock Player: After climbing down the rock face I use “Inspiring Word.” You get back *rolls* 4 hit points & you can use a healing surge Wizard Player: my character stands up and dusts his self off. Thanks for the save Me: I’m sorry to interrupt but did you just bring him back from near death with inspiring word? Warlock Player: Yeah… Why? Me: I’m sorry, but doesn’t that basically mean he was dying and you cured him by climbing down the cliff to say “Buck Up… it’s not all that bad” Wizard Player: yep Me: If only it worked that way in real life, we could replace all doctors with public speakers and life coaches. And you people wonder why old school D&D players hate 4E.

When the forces of stupid collide, magical things happen. And by magical, I mean ******* moronic. - Anon

i only just spotted this thread How.
This thread was abandoned nearly a full year ago. There is no way that you could have "only just spotted this thread". You have to have gone looking for it.
you were basically dying On topic, though: Yep, "old school" D&D. The game where it's perfectly okay for all those prayer warriors with no medical training to heal HP, but heavens forbid anyone else is able to. Please read the AD&D PHB for why wounds and HP are not the same thing.
Also, with the confusing Warlord and Warlock.

A good night's sleep can cure everything and 11 months of rest can bring a thread back from the dead!
Gygaxian is NOT a slur. Those who use it as such should be punched in the face. Repeatedly.

To be fair, maybe he was bored and was reading through some old threads. Like the ones on pages 157 and 158. It could happen.
