You have made several statements which can be construed to be objectively true or false, but you've offered no evidence or rational basis for those statements. Name one example of such a statement.

This thread demonstrates why I think alignment is a bad idea. TS asked a simple and reasonable question, and a fight broke out. Everyone has their own idea about what alignment means, and it usually involves hot-button topics that many find it difficult to be civil about. I've played D&D since 1979, and I've seen many more pointless arguments about alignment than I've seen constructive roleplaying resulting from it. In my experience, even if no squabbles break out, it tends to be used either as a straitjacket by DMs or as a license to kill by players. The best games I've played were the ones where as little attention as possible was paid to alignment.
Edit: And VA said it first, shorter and sweeter.

This thread isn't about alignment. It's just a dramafest about me hurting Rustmonster's feelings. Here.
My opinion is that alighnment is no longer neccesary in the game. It has no mechanical effect, and writing the word "Good" or "Evil" on your character sheet is not more useful than simply playing the character to those standards.
I have now rewritten my stance. Is that enough for you?
PS, Is there a way to delete posts? I think I'd rather my "dramafest" be gone, so that this thread will be less clogged.

It was criticism. But it was said in a way to make me look like I was stupid. Don't pretend to know what my motivations are. It's more rude than your claim I'm being.
You honestly can't see why it might have made me offended? No. I can honestly say that I can't. When I do this to other people, they tend to go "Maybe you should have made a different paragraph for this one," instead of going on and on about how I must be trying to make them look dumb.
And I guess that this is just me being "hypersensitive" and "hysterical" again, but thanks for telling me not to write if I can't take being made fun of. I'll take that into account. Maybe my skin just isn't thick enough to voice my opinion on the internet. Maybe it isn't, but honestly, if you'll allow me to quote Dr. Phil: "You need to grow a thicker skin." People aren't going to cater to your emotions the way I'm doing right now. Not for one second. The fact that you can't take criticism (and don't mistake being criticized for being made fun of) is a good indicator that something is wrong with you.
Fine, we established that the reason that I dislike alighnment is wrong. So, can you explain why alighnment the way it is (with no effect at all on anything, having even less purpose given to NPCs as a player can no longer find out an NPCs alighnment) is useful to the game? No. I like alignment, you don't. I don't care about anything beyond having solid reasons for either position.
So, you take no responsibility for it still being in very bad taste, and that it was obviously going to be seen as a sarcastic attack? Fine, whatever. Why wouldn't I take responsibility for it? I have an off-beat sense of humor. So what?
Yeah, I'm sorry Awesome_Dude. I'm sorry I was completly wrong and misinterpreted all of your well written and kind posts. I must have read in all that negativity. I must have also misinterpreted the posts you wrote after i misinterpreted you, where you were clearly not trying to show how badly I had been wrong. You were just trying to clear up my misinterpretation. It's also nice to know that you have no blame in this thing. All this time I had thought that you were part of it, but you have shown me the truth.
Keep up the good fight of not directly telling someone WHY you find exception to what they said until they are so confused and frustrated that they just write post after post waiting to see if you will finally act civil. Thank you. Apology accepted.
Can I sig that?! Go wild.

Here. You've admitted that I hurt your feelings and this thread has basically become a discussion about said, so why not call a spade a spade?
My opinion is that alighnment is no longer neccesary in the game. It has no mechanical effect, and writing the word "Good" or "Evil" on your character sheet is not more useful than simply playing the character to those standards. I'm happy that I have it. It makes it easier to expand upon.
