It depends on what the source of the damage bonus says.  If it says that it's a bonus to damage, it will always apply.  If it says that it applies to damage rolls, then it won't add to static damage.

I just bought the red box kit for 4e D&D. I have a(nother) question about the character sheets. Next to the abilities (str, int, con, etc)  there's a modifier box (I understand this so far) but there's also a check box.  

So when you need to do a str check or int check or whatever, you do what? roll a d20 and then... what do you put in the check box? The red kit doesn't say and I was reading another n000bie adventure and it indicates to roll one of these stat checks but I don't know how to do it.

Sorry for the BASIC question but .... please help!

Add your attribute modifier, half your character level, and any other miscellaneous things you may have that would add to the roll (you might have a magic item that gives you a bonus to Strength checks, for example).   This is the number that goes in the Check Box; it's your check modifier.

When you make a check, you roll a d20 and add the appropriate check modifier.

Lately I got quite confused about some damga issues (Btw yes I have read FQA, at least the sections that seemed relevant to me)

I am confused about the term "damage rolls" are they any damage benefits that work for every "damage roll" of say a daily power that deals 3 dice of damage? Or do damage benefits in general only apply once per attack?

For example is there a power/feat etc. that gives "+2" damage that would give you +2 extra damage on a attack that deals one dice of damage. But would give you +6 damage on an attack that deals three dice of damage?

No matter how many dice you're rolling, it is still only one damage roll.  A +2 bonus to a damage roll will only give you 2 points of damage, regardless of whether you're rolling 1 die or 6 dice.

Quick Question about Soul Step and Misty Step.  Do the feats for Misty Step aply to Soul Step?

Question on the Monk utility Swift Flight:


Effect: You fly a number of squares equal to your speed + your Wisdom modifier. If you don’t land at the end of this movement, you fall.


Say my monk, Monk von Monklenberg III, has a speed of 6 and a wisdom of 14. He stands at the base of a 100' tall wall that is 30' deep. Activating Swift Flight, he takes off vertically, and then...


A) reaches the top of the wall, proceeds 8 squares forward, surmounting the wall with ease, and drops back down to the ground on the other side, because vertical movement when flying is free.


B) rises 8 squares to a final elevation of 45', then falls back to earth and takes 4d10 damage, because Swift Flight doesn't give a fly speed, just a number of squares one can fly and vertical movement burns those just like horizontal.


I say A, my DM says B. DM fiat aside, who is correct?

DM is right.  Up movement costs squares, and that wall is 20 squares high.

DOWN movement doesn't generally cost squares but that's called "falling" and there are rules for that.

Confused about Stealth?  Think "invisibility" means "take the mini off the board to make people guess?"  You need to check out The Rules Of Hidden Club.

Vertical movement uses the same number of squares as horizontal movement with flight.

You would rise up 40', run out of movement, then immediately drop like a rock.
