Does this shield (from Adventurer's Vault) grant the +1 power bonus to AC only as long as the ally is adjacent to you? That would make sense, but RAW seems to suggest otherwise. Power (Daily): Minor Action. One ally adjacent to you gains a +1 power bonus to AC until the end of the encounter.
And the fluff says:
This oaken shield can guard an ally as well as protect you.

Your ally does not need to be adjacent to you to receive the +1 AC. It's a magic item, so don't think of it as 'moving your shield to defend an ally' as much as it is 'the shield's magic surrounds your ally'.
The "one ally adjacent to you" determines the range of the power so that you cannot grant this bonus to anyone who is not next to you. Read it like a class power:
Shield of the Guardian
Daily
Minor Action
Target: One ally adjacent to you
Effect: The target gains a +1 power bonus to AC until the end
of the encounter.
