Crazy question based on all of the above, would he technically get a swordmage warding at all? By trying to combine all of those elements he is not really wielding any lightblade or heavyblade to grant said warding. Wrist Razors in the arm slot won't do it right? Spiked Shield Rhythm Blade while holding a Staff won't work because he can't wield spiked shield correct?
Yeah, that's basically what I'm asking. I'm not worried about being able to attack, all I'm worried about is if I satisfy the "wielding a blade in one hand" requirement for Swordmage Warding. Am I wielding the spiked shield or not if I'm also holding a staff implement for the property in my shield hand?
The full scenario is I have a Disembodied Hand familiar and can as a free action retrieve my +3 Rapier to actually make an attack if I need to. But that temporarily disables my +3 AC from Swordmage Warding.
Wielding = "Able to Attack With", stop trying to game the system for +2 AC/Ref.

Hey, I don't mind that it can't be done, better to know than to not know.

Anyway to get the Half-Elf's Diletantte power to key off strength rather than Charisma, Wisdom, or constitution?

Choose a power already based off of Str? I suggest "Twin Strike"

Practical gameplay runs by neither RAW or RAI, but rather "A Compromise Between The Gist Of The Rule As I Recall Getting The Impression Of It That One Time I Read It And What Jerry Says He Remembers, Whatever, We'll Look It Up Later If Any Of Us Still Give A Damn." Erachima

Hello, I have recently started running 4th edition again and I was wondering if there were any ways to permanent combat advantage, all I have been able to see so far is taking a Dire Wolf since as long as your mounted and 5th level with Mounted Combat? Strangely this seems to be a pretty cool trick for a strange Hybrid Warlord/Rogue build at early levels because until that works you can just make your mount attack and knock them down?
I was also wondering if Hail of Steel lets you make an attack as well, basically are you your own Ally?

You are NOT your own ally.
Fey Beast tamer can gie you semi permanent CA to targets near animal.

A sentinel druids wolf companion makes enemies in aura1 grant CA. works as long as it is alive and can walk up to them.
The Theif build in Essentials can have take one power that gives him CA against targets adjacent to one of the theif's allies and another that gets CA against enemies that are not adjacent to any of their own allies. So unless you are fighting a fireing line of archers on a hill you should get CA. Of course some people find the simple if A then a if B then b tactics a little boring.
there are a number of controller powers that make the target grant CA. As long as the controller goes before you and hits there you go.
The sea looks at the stabillity of the mountian and sighs. The mountian watches the freedom of the sea and cries.

Is it possible to make a viable (secondary) defender in cloth? Other than Arid Berserkers, of course.

Swordmage or Swordmage|Warlock
Okay, could've thought of that. But that's another precious feat slot gone. Then again, it's not that much of a problem when the math fixes are houseruled.
