About how good is the new Bard/Skald multiclass compared to existing options?
I'm seriously considering it for my paladin, although I want to see specifically how its worded before I decided. I'm also tempted by the lvl 6 Skald encounter someone mentioned, letting an ally spend a surge and gain temp hp equal to their surge, which is a pretty substantial shift in HP. Does compete against a solid lineup of Paladin utils though.
If I recall correctly, it grants skill training and a once-per-encounter usage of the skald's aura healing power (anyone in the aura can use a minor action to spend a healing surge plus a few extra HPs, or heal an adjacent ally). And wand proficiency, if that somehow matters to you.
Also, that power (Revitalizing Incantation) is a minor action healing surge grant, plus it gives an equal amount of THPs for whoever spends the surge. It's Virtue, but better.
Tell your DM you appreciate them. Don't let them forget it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the guide. Our group's paladin was getting frustrated with his build, and it seemed to have some deficiencies. "But I took all the powers they suggested in the Divine Power book!" he said. Gulp!
I sent him a link to this, the GM let him re-do the character at Level 2, and he's been enjoying the combats a lot more. The hard work you and others put into these guides is really appreciated.

I have a friend who has chosen for thematic/flavor reasons a dragonborn baladin wielding a greatspear. He's currently level 5, and spent his first two feats on greatspear proficiency and spear expertise. I was wondering if there was anything he can do to make his reach weapon useful during heroic tier. So far, the only thing I can think of is to Divine Challenge a target who is engaged next to another character, using his reach weapon to attack and then move back a space. This would force the target to attack the adjacent character and trigger the Divine Challenge retribution, or force the target the have to move and draw an AoO from the adjacent character. Are there any feats in the heroic tier to help make this more feasible?

That is a pretty standard tactic for a 2 defender party with a paladin, but could work if you have a tough tanky striker with a good MBA as well. Stacking up the punishment with feats like mighty challange and bitter challange is a start. Draconic challenge is also good, but is more for cha/con builds.
Paladins have a decent number of push/slide powers in the first half of their carreers so polearm momentum is an option, but he probably won't have the stats for it. Polearm flanker and polearm gamble are options too as is impaling spear depending on if he takes any MBA powers A couple of those require MC fighter.
There is a guide to being a defender in a multi defender party in my signature and he could probably take some of those tips if there is another defender or tanky PC in the party. Things like enfeebling strike with power of trickery can put enemies in a tough spot with polearm gamble.

I thinking about getting "Fey Shift" for my Paladin, because I think the added mobility could be quite useful. Since I don't see it rated here, any opinions if it's worth it? Thx.

I was curious if there are ways to change your Sanction damage type (I know there is a Genasi feat for Challene).
I don't think it's a very good idea, but it would fit the flavor of my character. Still, probably a horrible idea.

I think fey shift is a good idea, especially if you have a cheap way to boost the teleport distance some. It gives you a way to move around when immobilized, need to shift more than 1, and other situations like that.

How would armor of exploits rate compared to, say, meliorating armor for a striker-centric half-orc Straladin? It seems like having another swing at Heedless Fury would be pretty potent, as would swiping a fellow ranger's twin strike, for example.

there wasnt anything on the first 2 pages about this but would it be worth multiclassing into battlemind for the level 7 lightning rush at-will power? ofc it will only be usable once pr encounter but it might be worth it to have something you can use in pinch, it might be difficult to get due to feat costs (2 feats) but since ill be putting a fair share of points into constitution it might be worth it.

Lightning Rush is not worth a two-feat cost and being locked into an MC that doesn't do much for you otherwise. Especially when Paladins have their own killer Lv. 7 powers.
D&DN Paladin: Half-Fighter, half-Cleric, all useless. D&DN Ranger: Third-Fighter, third-Rogue, third-Druid, all useless. With one interesting concept that has its execution botched. My 4e Character Op work:Character guides
