I always thought of the char op forum as a sort of "beta testing" forum. If something in the game mechanics is "broken", they'll find it.

WotC doesn't pay attention that closely for us to serve that purpose.

No errata or new product has been influenced by the charop forum?

Strategies for designing characters and tactics for playing them, are legitimate.

Hopefully, it isnt possible for 4e to become as brokenly cheesy as 3e could.

If its hard to break 4e characters, then elegance and economy of design are excellent ways to actualize roleplaying flavor.

Prediction: For those who are really playing the game of Loopholes and Exploits, there will be a few ways that 4E will be discovered to be "broken". As time goes on and more splatbooks enter the picture, it will become more brokenly cheesy.

Same as any other edition.

Function: 1/(stormwind fallacy) = ???

I just picked up KotS, and I don't see anything yet. But I'm'n'a make a copy of the PHB lite, and study it.
I am very impressed that the game is playable with such a "short" rule set. If it feels good, I'll do it.
I hope that's not the 4E beer talking.

Optimizing ... I played Chutes + Ladders versus a 4 year-old and her Grampa, and the game took HOURS.
The 4 year-old ~Won in about 5 minutes. But there was only a 1 on d6 chance to actually finish.
I fell down all of the possible chutes, more than 5 times. I climbed all of the possible ladders, more than twice.
We kept inviting the 4 year-old back in, but no no no , "I wanna keep being the winner".
Too bad my internet time isn't so restricted.

The forum in my sig has a high chance to be *the* place for 4E CO. I suggest you poke around since a substantial chunk of the CO regs are going to use it as the primary place if nothing changes.

Isn't it a bit wierd that the CO's would favor a non wotc site to post?
I don't see the big appeal there as opposed to here. what's the big difference?

Not at all:
1) Many people are ticked at G0
2) Many people really like Autumn
3) Better tools
4) Better moderation
5) Less beuracracy (Sp?)
6) PbP
7) CoC
8) It just feels more like home.

And sometimes it is just fun to see how far we can bend the rules and see what monstrosities we can give birth too.

Likewise, just because a certain broken combination exists does not mean that it will see actual gameplay. Records such as having 5400 attacks/round, hurling a uranium beachball for 1 million damage, diplomacy checks of 400+ and the like are simply thought exercises.

If a member cites those examples as reasons as to why we are munckins, then all I can say is that they do not understand the noble cause that is character optimization. We simply help players make their PCs the best they can be, within the limits they impose on us.

If someone asks us for help in making a viable wizard defender, then we will do our best to help him make a wizard tank, rather than simply shoo him off and tell him to play a paladin.

Somebody who understands. It was irksome having these forums open and immediately seeing 1-2 threads asking how to "break" the game. That's not really what CO is about.

Which is the primary reason why an outside forum is less effective for this - it's too secluded.

I'm not picking one or t'other actually, I fully intend to hand round here and the old 3.5 forums as well as at BG.

So far BG is turning into quite a nice community - we can swear (the vulgar yorkshireman in me appreciates that ), talk off-topic, and there's also a few PbP games being set up. I think of it as the CO backyard. It's also nice to know we've got a backup in case G0 has a sudden arsehole moment and deletes CO entirely (which he did threaten to do at one point).

But the noobs are all gonna head here, and I'm not willing to leave the noobs to the mercy of the fools who think Monkey Grip is an awesome feat.
