I'd be freaked, for one thing!
But, if they want to use any part of the offering, I won't say no, that's for sure.

Specially if you consider that everything in these forums is WotC property.

And just think, Belorin--if WotC uses it, you can claim that you came up with it first, and everyone here will back you up. You might not get a blurb in the book, but you'll be famous here. Maybe. Sort of.

If I recall correctly, they used the name Aasnimar in the upcoming MM - likely only a kludge to keep people from snickering over Aasimar. Frankly, I prefer Empyreal to either of them.

I also hate the word Tiefling. Sounds so ... weenie. That and whenever my wife hears it, she says, "You're playing a what?! hahahahaha!"

I digress.

Au contraire:

Wikipedia]"Tiefling" was coined by Wolfgang Baur, when original Planescape designer David "Zeb" Cook asked for a Germanic-sounding word for humans with fiendish blood. Baur derived the name from teufel, or "Devil" in German. The direct translation of tiefling, however, would be "deepling," since tief means "deep." A closer derivation from teufel would be teufling.

So teif is deep, teufel is devil, and the portmanteau "tiefel" would thus suggest a "Devil from the deeps," or a devil from Hell. Taking into account that (A) all devils come from the Hells in the D&D cosmology and (B) "ling" is a suffix meaning a minor or smaller version of the noun preceding it while implying a causal link (ducklings come from ducks, e.g.), tiefling is the perfect word for a D&D creature descended from or created by devils.

This has been your etymological service announcement for the wrote:
