And you feel that this particular shinigami displays:
overly large and exaggerated eyes with small glassy pupils in far too much white space. ?

Yeah.......Renji has nothing to do with what you said. Thanks for the image though, a bunch of my photobucket images got deleted and that was one of them, been looking for a replacement. This is the only similarity I can see so far

? Actually the eyes on this picture are not as exaggerated as the harpy, but, yes, they are exaggerated. My use of this piece of art was directed more towards the head shape and the positioning of the face on the head. Sorry I did not clarify.

It seems so from the vases. Although in some languages (Polish for instance) the word "siren" is the same as "mermaid", which makes everything confusing. I bet even the ancient Greeks didn't agree on this point :P
Anyway, the avian kind of siren is named Harpy in 4e which is quite a shock. I heard (and unfortunately can't remember where) that it was only due to a mistranslation that sirens became considered similar or the same as mermaids. Anyhow regardless of how the word has come to be used, in Greek myth they were bird women. And for those confused about the Harpy now being a bird person, well they also were in myth. As others have mentioned definitely the fluff is for a siren. They were actually described as being beautiful by the Greeks, it was sometime later on that they became depicted as vicious old crones. I like this version of the harpy better visually better than 3rd editions, but I probably would have used the vicious old crone look for her instead, and had a siren that looks more like the erinyes.

This is, mythologically speaking, a siren not a harpy (since harpies didn't sing). Also harpies and sirens were beautiful. [Quasi-sarcasm]Harpies singing is a pretty old concept as well, going back to at least third edition. I'd have to check and see if they're listed any earlier in that. Oh, Dante mentions them singing as well, but we all know what the truly relevant source is, right? [/Quasi-sarcasm]

Does the harpy have a PC write up, cause it looks like normal people would say "'ello govna'!" (no offense to those that might find that small joke offensive) instead of "OMG, RUNZORZ!" to a harpy.

Black dragon is way better art than that white dragon. And you know what they say, "Once you go black...you melt in a quivering puddle of acid!" Or something like that.
