It's not that I think you're wrong; it's just that I'm really, really hoping you're right and some confirmation would make me a happy lady.

Like most of the 4e info, I saw this, debated this on the boards, and promptly forgot to save a link. Proof when Google decides to cooperate.

In regards to the limit on classes' sources and roles...I'm not inclined to turn down anyone's class if it's fleshed-out enough to make it. Perhaps a "speculative" section with a disclaimer along the lines of "These might be crazy since we don't know how they're supposed to work"?

Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed, at any rate. Even if the multiclassing doesn't trip my trigger or the right class variants don't get made, if a fully fledged custom class design system debuts in the DMG1, then at least I can build one for myself and ask a DM to vet it and have some reason to believe the thing should be relatively balanced even if it doesn't play a role to a tee (or perhaps if it does).

And you linked my Bruiser in the OP, you're a sweetie. We won't know how good the actual abilities are until we know all the rules, but how's the logic, anyway?

A "speculative" section would be a good compromise. Though, until June, I'd think it would be more clear to label that section "more speculative," as opposed to the merely "speculative" section.

Supposedly it'll have all the underlying math there (what attack bonus from items you should expect at each level, how much damage powers should do, etc.) so everything should "automatically" be balanced if you follow the rules.

Having seen the excerpt on customizing monsters, with all the details and step-by-step idiot-proof instructions involved, I'm pretty sure it should be very easy to balanced custom stuff.

Perhaps an "Unfinished and Speculative" section for classes that (A) aren't complete and/or (B) use uncertain sources/roles/mechanics/etc.? As Belladonna isn't quite satisfied with her class (and has a few just-for-laughs abilities in there) the Bruiser could go there, with the outlines of the Vampire Lord Path--along with any Martial Controllers, should they show up--until and unless they're fleshed out completely.

Thoughts?

I think a "Speculative mechanics" classes section might be allowable.

Anyway, could you add my Raven Priest to the list?

Also, there is a Deliverer of Judgement Path over on the Gleemax Blogs.

And just in case I wasn't clear, I don't consider my Raven Priest to fall under "speculative mechanics."

Don't worry, I got that.

I put it under "Other Paths" rather than "3e Updates" because it looks like you were getting away from Knight of the Raven into your own territory. Do you mind?
