I for one find it interesting that the iconic Eladrin Wizard in the picture is wearing what appears to be at least Medium armor(Breasplate with massive shoulder plates). We knew that Spell Failure from armor was gone, but I didn't think armor wearing wizards(especially more than light armor, since I can't see them getting mad armor proficiencies) were common enough for them to actually put some in pictures.
Looks very nice though.

Yeah, when I scroll down from the top, seeing Calvin makes me laugh every time.

The Eladrin seem to be tapping into something. The intellectual utopian thing, the Wizard rationality thing. But there's also a complementary physical thing with the Swordmage, combat sports.
Eladrin obviously value power - they build cities of mages! And battle skill. They are social, competative.
Somehow Calvin really touches a nerve. I think he works so well because he represents the sheer joy of power. It's fun! In a weird way, he reminds of mathematicians and high level scientists. They don't 'study' math or science, they 'explore' math and science. They experience the sheer joy of discovering new things. The playfulness of manipulating the universe. I think that's how the Eladrin see Arcane magic.
