If we check www.dndinsider.com (also known as www.wizards.com/dnd)

We can confirm the folowing classes:
[LIST=1]

  • fighter
  • rouge
  • Wizards
  • Paladins
  • Clercs

You can read about it in:
    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20070820a

  • I am interested in how someone can play a bit of a woman's makeup (rouge)? I would think someone would rather play a rogue:D

This misspelling error has been commented on before. Anyone that reads marvel comics (X-Men in particular) knows how Rogue is spelled.
    Terms you should know...

    Spoiler: Show

Kit Build - A class build that is self sustaining and has mechanical differences than the normal scale. Started in Essentials. Most are call their own terms, though the Base Class should be said in front of their own terms (Like Assassin/Executioner)

Power Points - A mechanic that was wedged into the PHB3 classes (with the exception of the Monk) from the previous editions. This time, they are used to augment At Wills to be Encounters, thus eliminating the need to choose powers past 4th level.

Mage Builds - Kit builds that are schools of magic for the Wizard. A call back to the previous editions powering up of the wizard. (Wizard/Necromancer, for example) Unlike the previous kit builds, Wizards simply lose their Scribe Rituals feature and most likely still can choose powers from any build, unlike the Kit Builds.

Parcel System - A treasure distribution method that keeps adventurers poor while forcing/advising the DM to get wish lists from players. The version 2.0 rolls for treasure instead of making a list, and is incomplete because of the lack of clarity about magic item rarity.

They will Essentialize the Essentials classes, otherwise known as Essentials2.

    The new sub-sub-classes will be:

        * Magician.  A subsubclass of Mage, the magician has two implements, wand and hat, one familiar (rabbit) and series of basic tricks.
        * Crook.  A subsubclass of Thief, the Crook can only use a shiv, which allows him to use his only power... Shank.
        * Angry Vicar, a subsubclass of warpriest, the angry vicar has two attacks -- Shame and Lecture.
        * Hitter.  A subsubclass of Slayer, the Hitter hits things.
        * Gatherer.  A subsubclass of Hunter, it doesn't actually do anything, but pick up the stuff other players might leave behind.

Future Essentials2 classes include the Security Guard (Sentinel2), the Hexknife (Hexblade2), the Webelos (Scout2), the Gallant (Cavalier2) and the Goofus (Knight2).

These will all be detailed in the box set called Heroes of the Futile Marketing.

(Though what they should really release tomorrow is the Essentialized version of the Witchalok!)

I doubt they will, but I REALLY hope that v4 does away with all the munchkins. I am so sick of seeing characters with 19 classes 4 prestige classes, and a combination of 4 races (1/4 this, 1/2 this, 1/4 this... blah blah blah). Sometimes I think I'm the only throw-back who still believes in creating a personality and building the character and its class around the personality (instead of min/maxing the highest bonus possible for every ability, etc.).

I would really hope to NOT see a system in which points are used to purchase everything.

Also, the game doesn't need 400 character classes as some would suggest. Go back to having just a few, then allow those few to customize as they progress.

But one thing is clear... all the talk about v4... is a bit pointless until we get some concrete facts about what is going to be in it?

As for monthly subscriptions for online content... I'm all for the online content... but there's no way I'm paying a monthly fee (I work too hard for my money to watch it trickle away).

(And while I'm at it... get rid of this Gleemax crap that just made me register 5 times, because it couldn't find my original forum account, and the first four of my five registrations today...)

@ HarmAssassin i could not agree more, i hate those people who brag about how they have how ever many classes and races for one character and just like you said, "building the class around the personality". I have been trying to prove that using that method makes the game so much better but they just focus on which ones look cooler and the more powerful ones. Sometimes being DM just bites you in the ass.

Oh, and btw when is the release date of v.4.0 I can never remember.

Why is nobody replying it's been 4 days since i posted these and still nothing.

Warning, I'm sure they will balance it. Even if they get something more, they'll probably lose a lot. Plus, other classes are getting bumped in power.

I heard the druid was going to be focused on his shapeshifting abilities. Sure, he can still cast, but he will probably have to make a choice at some point in his/her career whether he wants to have more spells or more options for wildshaping (no, they won't be able to arbitrarily decide they want to become a lion, even though they came from a cold forest-y area. I think they make you choose specific animals now).

Anyone know if the rule of localized attack will be improved? I know that in D&D 3.5 only rogues and monks can do localized attacks, no rules for other classes. Forgive me for my poor English.

Alguém sabe se a regra de ataque localizado vai ser aprimorada? Eu sei que no D&D 3.5 somente ladinos e monges podem fazer ataques localizados, não há regras para outras classes. Perdoem-me pelo meu inglês pobre.

Harm, I agree with just about everything you said, especially the plethora of character classes. 1st Ed started to get really bogged down with so many optional classes like the Jester and the Fencer and Hedge Wizard and Warlock and...finally 2nd Ed boiled it back down to the core, and introduced kits that let players further define things.

Wow, I just said a bunch of stuff that everybody already knows. Maybe I just needed to practice my typing skills.

Anyway, it sounds like they want to streamline things again, because 3rd Ed started to get bogged down again and they realize it. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

I can't wait for beta for the online content. I'll definately give it a try, but it better be spectacular to warrant 50 cents a day from me.

Ronassic, I don't know the answer to your question, but I think you are referring to sneak attacks? Your choice of wording might be a translation thing (or I may have missed some change in jargon from 3rd to 4th edition)

It is my opinion that the Warlock replaced the Sorcerer, and is what the Sorcerer should have been like in the 3rd edition versions.

When the sorcerer (yes, a class called the Sorcerer will eventually come out in 4th ed) does make it's way to a PHB (possibly PHB3), it will be completely unrecognizable to the third edition class. I would hope that the fluff would do away with the blood lines tripe (Dragon blood and such) and simply be Innate magic, possibly from heriditory line or being "awakened."

Of course, seeing the Warlock has somehow gotten worse with the fluff than the third edition version. Some even thought that the Warlock (a word that means "Male Witch" among other things) could have a Divine power source!! Leads me to believe that not to many people will be playing the class and it will shoot out some variants in a splat book that has completely different origins and background.

The Dragon Disciple isn't worth bring over to 4th edition.

Wonder what made them change their minds with the Prestige classes and why it is thought that more tree lines would replace them. Guess the tweaking and rules in place wasn't simple enough...

I always thought Warlock meant oathbreaker.
