why? Why not let old settings fade as new edditions come out? For the same reason that I didn't stop playing Shadowrun when SR2 came out, and the same reason people play Exalted 2nd Edition... an edition shift doesn't necessarily mean that people want to move away from a fictional setting they truly enjoy.

They can still play the old setting all the old fluff is still the same. Id just like to see more new material is all. I dont want the same settings used over and over again. Ebaron was the first new setting in almost a decade I dont want to go that long without a new setting again.

A futuristic setting would be cool IF they did it right....Don't ask me how to do it right. I don't give out that info for free!

You could have Steampunk craziness and also Space Guns and huge dirigibles scrape the atmosphere that and the Aether and Aetherships to travel through space. Plus once you are at that level of craziness mixing in aesthetically/stylistically proper rayguns (like WETA's) would work well.
This would fit in some very sci-fi elements. But also keep the majority of fantasy feel so less likely for it go wrong.

Ebaron was the first new setting in almost a decade I dont want to go that long without a new setting again. A good setting changes and develops... it doesn't stay the same over the years. Even Shadowrun has changed dramatically over the years, from the introduction of the Otaku, to the Year of the Comet, to Crash 2.0, to the assassination of Dunkelzhan... and that's just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. The same goes with many settings, including Forgotten Realms.
Old setting doesn't necessarily equate to old material. You can have new material in an old setting just fine.

Only to an extent. Rember how many people complained about the changes to the realms? You say that as if there is anything that Wizards could possibly do to shut out all complaining. They can't. If they update a setting, people will complain about the changes whether they are too small or big. If they make a new setting, people will complain that they aren't supporting old ones. Don't forget: some people actually love the 4th Edition Realms.
If we're going to avoid something because of the potential complaints, they might as well not produce a single book... and even then, people will complain about it.

Thats true, Im just saying to change some of the old settings enough to make them interesting enough theyd have to change a lot. Its hard to use an old setting to add options. I mean what class usable outside of it would Dragonlance add? I cant really think of one.

It dosen't have to be a reflavoring of the Artificer from Eberron, especially since reading the fluff the two have very different ways of approaching machines and building stuff. Even before 2nd edition, tinkers found there way into Spelljammer and it can be argued Forgotten Realms (Lantan).
