Perhaps I'm just strange, but I never drew an association between "deva" and "diva" beyond "they are two words that happen to be similar but for one vowel."
And honestly, would it be a problem if the name happened to share such a relationship with a word that wasn't "diva," or is there some particular stigma to "diva" I'm not cognizant of?

Several people there made the Deva/Diva connection I'm fine with it, as the Astral Deva has been around since the 1st Ed MM II, way before the Aasimar hit the scene, and no one ever made fun of the Astral Deva back in the day.

is there some particular stigma to "diva" I'm not cognizant of? It makes people think of Mariah Carey and Diana Ross etc.

The word diva has seen much more use in recent years then it was used back then. Wasn't until '98 that VH1 held the first Diva concert.

Big difference between looking to be annoyed, and going through half-a-dozen contortions to arrive at that point as you just did, and having things like Deva/Diva spring right out at you. And frankly, I doubt anything you thought up actually sprung out at you. Nope, those sprang into my mind as I wrote.
I think it's because I knew what a deva was, and have known what a deva is for twenty years or so. So, it's pretty familiar territory. I certainly don't think of Mariah Carey unless I'm forced to.
Cheers, Cam

Nope, those sprang into my mind as I wrote. ...days later? Suuurrreee. Let me see if I can summarize your argument, though. Deva's not a bad name, because by its definition it's an appropriate name, despite the contention of several people that it's easily open to ridicule (which is basically the reason why that race is no longer called Aasimar). So Celestial and Nephilim are bad names because, even though by definition they're appropriate names... they're potentially open to ridicule? If that's your argument, then aren't you arguing against the name Deva, as well? Especially seeing as how numerous people have made the Deva/Diva connection, whereas no one have made any such connections regarding Celestial or Nephilim. So if a name being open to ridicule is a valid reason to discount it, then clearly Deva is the inferior choice out of them all, as it's shown itself to be far more open to ridicule than Celestial or Nephilim.
I think it's because I knew what a deva was, and have known what a deva is for twenty years or so. So, it's pretty familiar territory. I certainly don't think of Mariah Carey unless I'm forced to. Nobody forced numerous other posters to make that connection, and yet they made that connection all on their own.

On second thought, perhaps you'd better just call them what YOU want to call them, and I'll keep calling them devas, since it doesn't bother me like it bothers you. Cheers, Cam

some one remarked that the warforged was already relished in the dragon but you miss the fact that that is were they are relishing play test stuff. I am sure that we will be seeing the warforged in EB it is core to the setting.

I am sure that we will be seeing the warforged in EB it is core to the setting. Relish is a condiment. How do you relish a warforged? I'll bet it involves a blender. Moreover, who eats warforged relish? I can see a dragon eating halfling relish, but warforged relish? Not so much.
It could be worse than Deva. They could be coming out with a race called Mutherinlaw. I think that's more appropriate for the Monster Manual.
When the PHB II comes out, I'm making a female Deva Bard named Dian'a Y'ross. She will wear sparkly dresses.
I killed Aleena.
