I'm sure if we repeat this often enough, it might sink in. I mean, hey, if it worked for "gish" it will work for a REAL word.

Ha. It'll be the first time the errata fluff. Watchout Forgotten Realms Player's Guide.

Didn't seem to help [s]Assimar Aasimar.

Of course, there would be no need to repeat anything often enough so that it sinks in if the name didn't come with silly connotations right out of the gate. There would be no need for anything to sink in with Nephilim or Celestial, for instance. So maybe they should've gone with one of those, instead?

Online Etymology Dictionary]Diva - "distinguished woman singer," 1883, from It. diva "goddess, fine lady," from L. diva "goddess," fem. of divus "divine (one)."

From an Etymology stand point it doesn't look like diva really means a female singer/pop idol/prima donna. It seems that some Italian Opera fan decided to call his favorite singer a goddess and the term wrote:

Haven't we been over this a hundred times already? My reasoning is essiatlly just that I don't think they will reprint anything from Dragon in any source other then the Annual. As the full warforged write up is in Dragon, redoing it for the Eberron Player's Guide would basically be a reprint.

Lets go over it again...

New Classes and Races are going to be in PHB's and Campaign players guilds.

Not the Dragon/Dungeon Annuals. (Is it one or does each "magazine" have an annual?)

Terms you should know...

Spoiler: Show

Kit Build - A class build that is self sustaining and has mechanical differences than the normal scale. Started in Essentials. Most are call their own terms, though the Base Class should be said in front of their own terms (Like Assassin/Executioner)

Power Points - A mechanic that was wedged into the PHB3 classes (with the exception of the Monk) from the previous editions. This time, they are used to augment At Wills to be Encounters, thus eliminating the need to choose powers past 4th level.

Mage Builds - Kit builds that are schools of magic for the Wizard. A call back to the previous editions powering up of the wizard. (Wizard/Necromancer, for example) Unlike the previous kit builds, Wizards simply lose their Scribe Rituals feature and most likely still can choose powers from any build, unlike the Kit Builds.

Parcel System - A treasure distribution method that keeps adventurers poor while forcing/advising the DM to get wish lists from players. The version 2.0 rolls for treasure instead of making a list, and is incomplete because of the lack of clarity about magic item rarity.

ha ha Show

They will Essentialize the Essentials classes, otherwise known as Essentials2.

The new sub-sub-classes will be:

    * Magician.  A subsubclass of Mage, the magician has two implements, wand and hat, one familiar (rabbit) and series of basic tricks.
    * Crook.  A subsubclass of Thief, the Crook can only use a shiv, which allows him to use his only power... Shank.
    * Angry Vicar, a subsubclass of warpriest, the angry vicar has two attacks -- Shame and Lecture.
    * Hitter.  A subsubclass of Slayer, the Hitter hits things.
    * Gatherer.  A subsubclass of Hunter, it doesn't actually do anything, but pick up the stuff other players might leave behind.

Future Essentials2 classes include the Security Guard (Sentinel2), the Hexknife (Hexblade2), the Webelos (Scout2), the Gallant (Cavalier2) and the Goofus (Knight2).

These will all be detailed in the box set called Heroes of the Futile Marketing.

(Though what they should really release tomorrow is the Essentialized version of the Witchalok!)

Celestial? Like Celestial Seasonings, the company that makes all of that hippy herbal tea? ZOMG! My new half-angel race is a New Age herbal tea drinker!

Nephilim? That sounds like Nerf. ZOMG! Aasimar have been nerfed in 4E! Teh suxxor!

This is easy, man. If you're looking to be annoyed, you'll find a way.

Big difference between looking to be annoyed, and going through half-a-dozen contortions to arrive at that point as you just did, and having things like Deva/Diva spring right out at you. And frankly, I doubt anything you thought up actually sprung out at you. If they had, then you certainly would've brought them up days ago, when this discussion first began. More likely you sat there for a few minutes and thought about it in order to make a fairly weak point. Maybe did a google search to come up with one of those. That's quite different then the reaction I and many other people had pretty much the instant we heard Aasimar were renamed Devas.

And many other people had just that reaction. For instance, I mosied on over to ENWorld to check out a few things, there, and spotted a thread discussing this very subject. And wouldn't you know it? Several people there made the Deva/Diva connection, too, long before I got a chance to make any comment on it. So I guess I'm not the one straining credulity, here.

No, your not the only one. Deva just reminds one of diva, the words are very similar.

I have found it amusing that so many people have immdeiately referred to an ancient word describing divine spirits to crazed singers! Lol...still it is understandable considering the word that is used more often in our culture now.

Still they are referred to as Devas in the FRPG, a small difference but it seems that Devas and not Deva is the name. So if people want to refer to them as a group of singers trapped in a single body i guess they can, but it will stretch it some :P

Oh and one more thing...it can lead to good RP having the long suffering Divine touched paladin take the jokes of his companions but staunchly defend them when the time comes.....actually no it would just get annoying, scratch that!

I also made the connection immediately (although I never did think of Ass-imar when I heard of Aasimar. I guess because I pronounce it Aa-simar with the Aa quite separate from the s). It doesn't bother me, but I did make it.
