Thanks!

Of the two approaches to hobby games today, one is best defined as the realism-simulation school and the other as the game school. AD&D is assuredly an adherent of the latter school. It does not stress any realism (in the author's opinon an absurd effort at best considering the topic!).
It does little to attempt to simulate anything either. (AD&D) is first and foremost a game for the fun and enjoyment of those who seek the use of imagination and creativity....
In all cases, however, the reader should understand that AD&D is designed to be an amusing and diverting pastime, something which an fill a few hours or consume endless days, as the participants desire, but in no case something to be taken too seriously.
For fun, excitement and captivating fantasy, AD&D is unsurpassed. As a realistic simulation of things from the realm of make-believe or even as a reflection of midieval or ancient warfare or culture or society, it can be deemed only a dismal failure. Readers who seek the later must search elsewhere. - Gary Gygax. 1e DMG.

EDITION WAR ALERT!This thread started on the brink of edition wars, but fell full throttle into it as of post #64. Everything after that is just same old, same old. Sadly, what has become a somewhat interesting thread was derailed by the usual suspects. I request we either delete everything after post #63 or close the thread. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1120910The same usual suspect put this thread over the top too, as of post #62. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1120748The title of the thread makes it pretty clear that an edition war is in progress: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1121816

When it starts to become clear that the usual suspects like to get threads closed by turning them into edition wars, why are we not bringing in those suspects for a lineup and seeing if we can't get them sent upstate on charges?
Seems like a pretty natural logical leap, right?

These threads have more to do with 4e hate than the GSL, so they belong in GD. Or closed... http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1120805http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1120473This thread turned into someone openly chastising the ORCs. Not sure why it's around. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1118037This looks like a "What's a DM To Do?" issue. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1121136
Ed_Warlord, on what it takes to make a thread work: I think for it to be really constructive, everyone would have to be honest with each other, and with themselves. Quotation of the moment

Areleth: How does this help the problems we have with Fighters? Do you think that every time I thought I was playing D&D what I was actually doing was slamming my head in a car door and that if you just explain how to play without doing that then I'll finally enjoy the game? Quotation of ALL moments

TD: That's why they put me on the front of every book. This is the dungeon, and I am the dragon.
A word of warning though: I'm totally not a level appropriate encounter.
