Well, me too, but I have trouble believing that anyone has the willpower (barring total apathy) to pick up the book off the shelf, carry it home, sit down, then crack it open for the first time. What if there's a lineup at the store? Someone two people in front of you is paying for a handfull of dice using nickels, the person in front of you is buying a PHB and keeps yelling "SWEET!" to their disinterested driver as they flip through, then they start an argument with the clerk about Vancian Magic and Save-or-die spells, and all this time you're standing there in line with the book in your hands and you don't even take a peek?
I'll probably flip randomly through until I see some art that looks super awesome, read a paragraph or two, then look up the specifics of the Warlock Pacts (what kind of powers do Vestige Pact Warlocks get?) and Wizard specializations (which we know very little about since implements seem to have changed since R&C was put together.) Meh... I'll be leafing through my MM on line.

I'll probably flip through looking at the art, then start from the beginning and read it "cover-to-cover" - I'll probably skim the actual power lists to start off, since those are likely the bulkiest part of the book, but I'll want to know about everything eventually and reading it from start to finish is a good way to get a head start on that. :D

Since I'm getting the Gift Set from Amazon, I don't need to worry about leafing through the book before I get home. So it's page 1 for me, with maybe some leafing through the MM to see how/if my favorites made it.

I'm just gonna throw the books in a corner and pretend they don't exist. Then I'll come to these boards and start a hurricane of complaints. Then I'll laugh myself to sleep as each and every one the 4e Avengers take the bait or come to the realization that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. :invasion:

First look at the pretty pictures. Then anything that catches my eye while looking at the pretty pictures. Then I'll start the cover to cover.

I'll probably read the races section first. I like the fluff I've read so far and I'd like to read more. Also, I'm curious about racial powers. I'm curious if all races have the same powers. For instance, do all dragonborn have a breath weapon or is it something they get to choose. Then I'll go to the classes section. Probably the warlord section first because its new or the rogue section because that's one of my favorite classes to play. It depends on how long the line is and how many dice that guy is paying for with nickels.

First thing I'll do is look at all the pretty pictures and read all the fluff..... Not! I have to see the crunch on the warlocks! And Rangers! And Paragon Paths! And Epic Destinies! And..... Maybe I'll just say I'm going to read everything first. Then I will read it again.

:invasion: Why would you even buy the books just to "throw them in a corner"?

I'm probably going to read all three cover to cover, starting with the DMG and ending with the PHB. I'm the only one in my group who's really excited about 4e, and the only way I'll ever get to play it is if I DM it first.
Which will be interesting as I'm the only girl in the group. :D
