No link. I had a broker dig #'s out of the public company. U.S. then UK/Commonwealth. Non-English was a sharp drop off. D&D sales only, not other products
Need at least 4 translations other than English to cover a sizable % of EU. I doubt this will be a fast item for WoTC.... The "splatbox" situation will remain for 4E... "non-english" is not an accurate way to measure sales in europe. I have my core books in english for example (and I'm sure they are much more common in countries like sweeden, germany or holland, where people has a much better grasp of english as a second language)
I agree with the splatbox glut. A sad part of the trade, and seemingle unavoidable.

Market forces prevail. If there is enough demand for a certain language then the translations will take place quickly. Quarterly P&L is important for a public company. If not enough demand then it takes place slowly, if at all.

What i mean is you cant equate "english books" to "books sold in USA and UK", becouse a bunch of those are sold in Spain, Germany or Finland, or Korea for that matter. I would rather like to see some data about books sold in Europe, opposed to books sold in german or italian language. I'm not sure if that data is even possible to get, and i have no clue about where to start to look

You'd have to get it from the company directly.

I was considering the arguments that have resurrected this thread, and just wondering if you realize that distance in the 4e books, at least for combat, is going to be measured in squares?

An American Founding Father invented the metric system, it's about time WE started using it.
Since 99.9% of the world's population already uses the metric system, let's grow up and use it in D&D too. That way, no conversions are necessary.

Face it, Congress has been trying for 30 years. Americans (the majority) hate it.

I've already made a much lengthier post on this in anothe thread/forum, won't be repeating it here...
Since the game is played in just about every nation on the planet, and since all but 3 nations use the metric system, from a cost standpoint it makes sense to have only one version in print. If you've played other role playing games, there's a good chance you've already used metric measures in at least one of those (including products made by WoTC). It just makes sense to do D&D in metric as well.
And, actually, congress has been opposing it, not trying to institute it. A FEW members of our legislature have tried to change it, but the vast majority have opposed it because of all the businesses who don't want to run the cost of converting ... even though they already do convert if they sell abroad... (and they contribute too much money for anyone to risk losing their support)... just fyi.

Market forces do rule. It will be in what system does the most good for WoTCs P&L. So far that has been the current U.S. system.
