I think its funny how the people who are mad about 4E try to say they are the majority when the majority of the posts I've read and the majority of the customers that have come into my store are thrilled about it! I have had 2 customers upset about 4E and both of them still play 2E, so really, who cares?!
This is a better, more interesting system and I am all for it. If you are mad because you bought all the 3.5 books, you should be mad at yourself. In most DnD groups, you buy what you want to use and if you bought all of them and used all of them then you got your money's worth. If not, then you were buying them to collect them all or something and you have a problem that they have therapy for.
I'm using all the 4E concepts because they rock. Any DM should exalt the death of CR. We don't have to rest after every 3 encounters when we have a caster in tow? Great! Classes get more diversity? Fantastic! Race actually affect gameplay? Awesome! Fighters have more options than "I run up and swing my sword"? Holy Crap! So they're making the game easier to play, with tons more options? How can you not love it?!?!
And I think everyone is being thrown off by the class roles. They have said that the support roles will be better in combat than in 3.5, they are just labeling them so that you can pick which mix of classes you want easier. So that, for instance, some newbs (God forbid anyone new wants to play your game) want to run all sorcerers or something, they have a reference to show them that its not the best idea.
Everything about 4E is better and if you don't agree, then just keep playing 3.5 there is plenty of material out there for you. By the way, why would you even come here if you aren't even interested in 4E? Why don't you go say some good things about 3.5 on the 3.5 boards?

I'm up with you. I know 2 kind of people here in my zone that disagree with 4th edition: Those who dont like D&D in general (and have been complaining of D&D being "inferior" to other "narrative" systems ) Those who play rpg, but dont like to buy books (and complain about money grubbing, which is funny, since WTC is not getting money from them anyways, 4e or not)
None of those are a market target for D&D4. And the 2 customers that play 2e in your shop, arent either.

OTOH, it's not just "pro wrestling" that does this; most action-movies do it as well. I lost track of how many times Indy gets his "second Wind" in Last Crusade when I watched it last night (and, yes, it would make an interesting Eberron adventure, if you didn't mind a bit of railroading). Second wind is a staple for every action movie, cartoon or comic. From Rocky to Xmen, the image of the hero which is close to death/k.o. and then see the girl rapted/his mom saying "you can"/remember the slaying of his tribe and then stands up with conviction and remove the blood from his face while saying the pretty much confused bad guy "this is not over... yet".
It's part of the genre. The entire Diehard film is about it

They eventually had to retool it. I don't feel like downloading 100 pages of errata and sticking it in my books, nor would I buy a new book just to fix 3 or 4 pages worth of mistakes. I also would not have paid for 3.75 which is what it would have been if it were backwards compatible. I don't have an opinion yet, as to how good it will be, but I hope it is not as dumbed down as I expect it to be, and I hope they stop changing the fluff. I am however not sold on the "it is easier just because they said so" idea they are promoting. I will need to see example of a lot of things, such as using monsters as PC's and their CR replacement. I never did the four battles a day thing anyway. I might as well just be giving XP away. I do about 2 or 3 hard battles, and that normally gives them a level. They barely survive, but if it ain't dangerous it ain't exciting.

It's part of the genre. The entire Diehard film is about it Exactly - so putting in a second-wind mechanic is perfectly valid (and pretty cool).
Besides, what is a healing potion but a second wind in a bottle...

I'm very excited about 4E.
However, while I understand the reasoning behind making the game easier to learn for newer players, I am still somewhat concerned and worried that they might end up making it too simple. The thing I liked about 3rd Edition was that it was simple, but you could make it more complex if you wanted to make it more complex. I like having a lot of options available to me for to tinker around with the game and get into the game on a more complex level. I just hope that ability and those options aren't taken away.

Because it's better for the entire game to rise to the highest point of coolness than sink to the lowest point of uncoolness?
The Fighter was a pretty bad class. Disregarding power for a second, the main thing was that, out of the box, he was *so boring*. I don't see what is uncool about the fighter. Have a good range of choices (I like feats) and easy to play (important! many of my group shy away from caster because they don't want to read through hundreds of pages of spells).
I love fighter/mages but that is not a standard class, a standard fighter should not have magical abilities.
