Dear PerennialRook,

If you think commoners can't do anything, you should meet Joe Wood! The pen is mightier than the sword - but only if the sword is very small and the pen is very sharp - Terry Pratchett Methinks (still) wizards bit off more than they can chew.

I have an Old copy of a supplement, let me look for it, all about plants and herbalsim. It should have something very fantasy in it or we could use our collaboration to come up with something really different....? I do like the thought of Fungi, we could even introduce a "mushroom farmer" into the mix.
I'll look for that book quick
OK found the book and a quick look shows this one might be good for our region.....
VALERIAN: Rarity:Common Enviroment:Any hills and Low Mountian Harvest:perennial Cost:5cp / 1oz dried root Game Use: Herb/Tea/Medicine (analgesic and sedative) Often found by it's strong scent, Valerian growes on slim but erect stems with long saw-toothed leaves and topped in summer by yellowish combs and bunches. It is among the more useful herbs for apothearies and midwives and commoners, put to use in teas or tonics to ease pain, aid sleep and relax muscles. It's oils are useful in creating sleep potions and can have tranquilizing effects.
Looks like we will have to come up with our own food type plant for winter time. What is this book called? I'd like to get my hands on it.

Year 16: Months 7,8, & 9
Aside from the continued presence of Keegan and his men, these few months seem to pass by in a fairly peaceful and "normal" manner. During their stay in town, a few of Keegan's men have heard about the local event known as the Eck's Games; a few of the men express an interest in competing. There's also speculation circulating through the town about the continued accumulation of bards and performers in town; chitter and chatter about whether or not something special is going to be included in the celebration this year.
Randall, Keegan's son, became embroiled in a bit of a minor scuffle in month 8. Grenda Gallet, one of the younger females in Eckland, had been promised via arranged marriage to marry Frederick Fenda, a young man from a different family.
The young las had "accidentally" bumped into him one day, and feigned being hurt - playing the part of the typical damsel in distress. For several days the two had become friends, and everything was fine. The las started to develope some feelings for him; she was unhappy with whom she was supposed to be betrothed to, and he was both royalty and "fresh meat." She told her parents and the parents of the young lad she was arranged to marry that she had carnal knowledge of Randall Keegan; was planning to leave with him when his time in Eckland was done. Naturally, many people were upset; Randall found himself being confronted in the middle of town by a small angry mob. Both confused and overwhelmed, Randall Keegan had no idea what to do. He professed that he had no idea what any of them were talking about; before too long, some of his father's men had arrived. There was a small standoff between Keegan's men and his son & the angry mob lead by the parents of Frederick Fenda who were demanding justice and screaming that Randall had no right to just march into town and steal away a woman who was promised to another man. Eventually Grenda broke down and confessed that she had caused the whole thing; Randall was a bit alienated by the experience and still maintains a somewhat "distant" stance toward women.
However, there was one woman in town who was drawing more and more attention from everyone in town as the months passed. Lady Eckson was starting to be the cause of more speculation and gossip; by the end of the 8th month there was no doubt as to what her condition was. She was not ill; she was once again with child. Ezra was seen speaking to both Gregory and his wife, and it was overheard that Lady Eckson is expected to give birth to the new child sometime during the first quarter of next year.
Gregory continued to speak with Keegan on a regular basis; Gregory convinced Keegan that a wall around the town was not needed. Gregory explained that the natural landscape around Eckland was a good natural wall, and he also explained other defensive features such as Ezra's command over the nearby forest and various other things. With some serious thought, Keegan agreed that perhaps a wall really wasn't needed. After all, Gregory knew the lay of the land better than Keegan.
A little bit of truth was revealed to Gregory around the end of the 9th month when Keegan's men returned; with them came the engineers and the siege weapons. Keegan explained to Gregory that the plan was to go ahead with the king's idea of a pre-emptive strike all along, but the king wanted to test Gregory's loyalty. Keegan was to see what Gregory's reaction was to more troops being stationed in and around Eckland. Telling Gregory the false plan was also a way of testing his loyalty; had the enemy attempted to assault the town, the king and Keegan would have known that Gregory was feeding information to the enemy because surely the enemy would want to attack before more troops and a wall were brought in to fortify Eckland. Keegan apologized to Gregory for the deception, but expressed that it was necessary. After the defection of Fort Town, the king was concerned about the loyalty of some of his vassals which were in closer proximity to King Rival's territory. Gregory had passed the test. Keegan now told Gregory the real plan.
Eckland was to be used for a gathering point and a rally point. A slow build up of strength was to take place; afterward Keegan would strike out into King Rival's territory. The engineers (and the siege weapons) were being brought in to aid Keegan's men in case they ran into things such as traps, trenches, and various other things. The heavy cavalry that Keegan "requested" was in reality a unit of about 30 archers; they were going to be the ranged element of Keegan's strike. Shortly after that, another unit of 50 skirmishers were sheduled to arrive.
Keegan told Gregory that -since Gregory had shown he was indeed loyal to the king- 20 of the skirmishers and Keegan's son were to be left here in Eckland. They were intended to bolster the defense of Eckland if the enemy did proceed with their planned attack of this area. Although the men were under the command of Randall (Keegan's son,) Randall was under the direct command of Gregory to be used in a manner that Gregory saw fit. Gregory seemed a bit upset that the king and Keegan would challenge the status of Gregory's loyalty, but he seemed to understand, and told Keegan that there were no hard feelings. moving my previous post to the "front" of the thread
