Yeah, I'm a douche. But I feel like I'm making my players smarter, one written note at a time. I wouldn't say your making your players any smarter by this practice. At BEST, you would improve their grammer. At worst, you make a lot of people ****** off due to your annoying need to nitpick their grammer.

And, to be fair, IQ tests take into account your grasp of grammar, so it actually does, by literal definition, make them smarter.

I've seen some pretty dumb people claim fairly impressive results on IQ tests. My own IQ test was well above avarge, and I know my spelling and GRAMMAR are horrible. I've always felt IQ tests where a poor representation for how smart someone actualy is. How that person lives their life and solves problems, what they know and how well they can reason, those seem to me better examples of a persons intelect. Meh.

Dude, I'm a psych student, don't get me started on the validity of IQ tests. AGH. I just meant, by a definition of smart that validates what is generally considered to be smart by the academic community and dictionaries, I'm making them smarter. But I'm with you. IQ tests are also so freakin' Western-oriented. Good luck accurately gauging the IQ of a community in the steppes of Uzbekistan! Anyway, before I go on a rant, I'll just say, IQ tests suck.

IQ tests don't necessarily measure your intellect. They measure your ability to learn. You could, for example, have an IQ of 140 and still be about as 'street-smart' as a rock.
But yeah, they're still pretty worthless as a whole.

Not in my DnD (if I can help it): - Metagaming - Characters without purpose/goals (getting rich is a goal, but only if the RP it properly) - Characters with no background - People who think DnD is a ROLEplaying game and not a ROLLplaying game. - Uninterested players - WoW talk (but they do it anyway, over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. WHO GIVES A DAMN **** ABOUT HOW MUCH GOLD YOU NEED TO GET YOUR DAMN FLYING EPIC MOUNT?!) - Snack/store break (why can't the damn players get their snacks before the session?)

Stupid players. You know you always have the guy who wants to hunt down and kill the Ancient Red Dragon to take it's hoard at level 5 with a sword +2. Or other equally stupid ideas or tactics. Players like this usually get a tap on the shoulder and a whack upside the head. Half this and half that. How many fornications between different races can their actually be? I had someone who wanted to be half elf and half dwarf Sorry don't see that happening, ever. People who plan out their character from start to finish while still at level 1. I mean I can see wanting your character to be the best, but please. Anyone who says any one of the following, "....Drizzt...", "....my God/Goddess/Head of Cabbage owes me one.....", "...let's kill Eliminster" (usuallly said after 48 hours with no sleep and lots of Jolt Cola), ..."I have an 18 (ability name here), theres no way I can fail....." Anybody who tries to bring anything even resembling a gun or gunpowder into the game. Players who insist their half-orc barbarian with an Int of 4 would be able to pick the lock on a door or translate an ancient text in a dead language. tap, whack! Swords and or weapons so outragously large and bulky that no human being could possibly weild them. I blame World or Warcraft and anime for that one. Any D.M. who allows his/her characters to have any of the following, A nucleur powered anything, bags of infinite holding, so many magic blades they use them as kitchen knives since the armory is full, so many suits of magic armor their labled, "Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday"......, floating castles, their own private standing army, a great sword +12 god-slayer, TAP, WHACK!!! I'm sure theres more, but it's to early to think of them right now.

Forced definitions of fantasy that removes things like Psionic, ToB, etc from possible options. Well, a it's one of the fundamental jobs of a GM to craft the definition of fantasy of his game world. The current world I'm developing doesn't use psionics. Why? I don't like them in fantasy. Don't like it? Don't play my game. When others allow psionics in their game, or disallow other things, I don't whine about it. Why? They have taken the time to exclude/include the flavors they want to maintain the internal integrity of their worlds.
One thing I HATE in my D&D is the non-chalant way people view PrCs like it's just another class but with prereqs. Guess what? Just because you have achieved a list of prereqs to get the PrC you want for your build doesn't mean that it even exists in my world. It's hard to blame the players entirely, though. The way that PrCs are presented makes it difficult to run them the right way without looking like a jerk. Monte Cook wrote an excellent article on the subject some time ago, too bad I lost the link because I'd love to read it again.
