Neo-Animals are the children of permanently awakened Animals or Vermin. They have inherited their parents Awakened Status. This is often quite hard on them to adjust to. Not as hard as their parents, but lets face it their parents probably have a lot of issues. Over time the newly created race may calm down and adjust a little, but they're always just a little twitchy.

Neo-Animal

Neo-Animal is an Inherited Template that can be applied to any Animal (or possibly any Vermin of you allow Awakened Vermin in your campaign).

Size and Type: Size is Unchanged, Type becomes Magical Beast.

Hit Dice: All Racial Hit Dice become d10's. If the Base Creature has less than 1 Hit Dice it now has 1 HD.

Speed: Unchanged.

Armor Class: Unchanged.

Attacks: Unchanged, but remember to recalculate Base Attack Bonus due to Type change.

Damage: Unchanged.

Special Attacks: Retains all Special Attacks of the Base Creature.

Special Qualities: Retains all Special Qualities of the Base Creature, and gains the following:

Skill Limitations (Ex): Because animals have no hands they cannot make Skill Checks in the following skills:

Craft, Disable Device, Disguise, Forgery, Open Lock, Sleight of Hand, and Use Rope.

Primates with clumsy hands take a -4 Racial Penalty on these Skills instead.

Most will not be able to take ranks in Handle Animal or Ride as well. Most Aquatic animals will not be able to get ranks in Balance or Climb. Most Str or Dex based skills may be limited because of body type.

Natural Mage (Ex): Since neo-Animals can speak they can cast spells with Verbal Components, and they can adjust spells to use Somatic Components usable by their non humanoid form. Material Components and Focuses may still give them a bit of a problem sometimes.

Saves: Remember to possibly recalculate Saves due to change in Type.

Abilities: As a PC you may be using arrays or other methods than to generate stats. In this case Int is +0. While a Neo-Animal has normal intelligence, none of them have bonuses to this stat. To Figure out Wisdom, add three to the Base Creatures Wisdom. Subtract 10 if it's an even number, or 11 if it's an odd number. If the remainder is a positive, this is the Neo-Animals Bonus to Wisdom. If it's negative, this is the penalty to Wisdom.

Skills: Unchanged.

Feats: Unchanged.

Environment: Unchanged.

Organization: Unchanged.

Challenge Rating: +0. If original CR is less than 1, it becomes 1.

Treasure: Unchanged.

Alignment: Neo-Animals tend toward being Neutral, but they have no alignment restrictions.

Advancement: Unchanged, or By Character Class.

Level Adjustment: +0 in theory. However there will be a level adjustment due to the Animal/Vermin's racial stats abilities which will be worked out below.

Okay, bhu, this is pretty epic. I like what you are doing, and I'll probably present some neo-creatures of some of my own works as part of this thread when you are finished with the template.

Neo-Animal is mostly done. I have to add the LA for the base creatures abilities still. I've only started with the animals/vermin from MM1. I can add the others if you wish.

What do you mean by Int is +0? Does that mean their Intelligence score is set to 10? You said they inherit the Awakened status.
Bring Gleemax Back.  Even as a failure, it was better than this.

Edited the template to answer your question. It means that if you use arrays etc they generate Int normally, and no Neo-Animal has a Racial Bonus to Int.

Ok, because of the template the neo-animal now has no racial bonus or penalty to Intelligence (whereas an animal with an Int of 2 effectively has a -8 racial penalty). That makes more sense.
