Holy Dino's, Batman!! Wow, this is an impressive post. I haven't been able to read the whole thing. But, is there a handy list with names and types of dinos? I haven't the knowledge of dinos like you guys, so I don't know what each kind is, outside of the "basic" ones, like Triceratops, T-Rex, and the like. however, my knowledge doesnt really get much beyond that. For example, I think the pachysaurus (sp?) is the dome headed ones that are believed to be plant eaters that used the dome to ram mating opponents?

So, an index for this HUGE undertaking that you are doing here is all you need. Either as a link, or with just a post number. Or, at least, un updated one like you have on the first post that has them all on it.

Keep up the awesome work!!

A primordial fish glides through the crevices near the bottom. It glares at you with its glassy eyes and stands guard over the lair like an oceanic phantom.

Coelacanths are ancient fish that seem to be a mix of shark, bony fish, and amphibian. They haunt the depths of the ocean, a testimony to th endurance of life. Another species known as mawsonia swims a bit closer to the surface and is often the prey of spinosaurs like suchomimus. A coelacanth's tough hide is often used in hide armor and gives the wearer a unique-appearing hide that cannot be found in most other animals.

Combat
Coelacanths rarely fight, but if forced into combat they will bring their strong jaws into play.
Improved Grab (Ex): If a coelacanth hits with its bite, it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. No initial touch attack is required. Unless Improved grab only works against targets size small or smaller. The coelacanth has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use its mouth to hold the opponent. If it chooses to do the latter, it takes a –20 penalty on grapple checks, but is not considered grappled itself; the coelacanth does not lose its Dexterity bonus to AC, still threatens an area, and can use its remaining attacks against other opponents. Each successful grapple check the coelacanth makes during successive rounds automatically deals the damage indicated for the bite. When a coelacanth gets a hold after an improved grab attack, it pulls the opponent into its space. This act does not provoke attacks of opportunity. It can even move (possibly carrying away the opponent), provided it can drag the opponent’s weight.

You know, with all those fins, it seems the Coalacanth would be exceptionally manueverable. Not sure how this could be accounted for in DnD terms, though...

Here is an idea, how about some dino-like sea creature that breaths fire? Now, woldn't THAT be a surprise for some ship at sea... Have it be one of the long necked ones, like Elasmosuarus, maybe. Even better would be if its fire breath worked under water.

Or, that is stupid. Well, it is an idea, I guess.

Here is another thought: What about different dinos that have one or two spell like abilities? For example, some herbivore that relies on Dimension Door to escape from predators. There are also various creatures today that try and scare off predators by puffing themselves up, to seem bigger and more agressive. How about some critter that uses an Enlarge Person effect to actually do that?

Just a few ideas.

Coelacanths have lots of fins, but aren't exactly the most maneuverable or fast fish in the sea. I could work on a few fictional creatures for the thread or even things that are basically the descendents of real-world paleolife.

Statting Mahars was brought up some time back, but it seems to have been dropped. May I try it?

Be my guest if you want. I can send you links to info and stuff. I was going to make them as a race but I cant think of anyone who would want to play a race of deaf mutes addicted to human flesh. That and some of their powers were pretty over the top.

I would totally play one. Finding suitable human meals might be difficult, but hey, think of it as roleplaying expe wrote:
