Thanks TheCrawlingSpleen! :embarrass Aw, you made my emoticon blush...how sweet. Megalania prisca was always one of my favorite Pleistocene creatures, so eventually a little thing called inspiration came up to me and bit me in the...where it bit me doesn't matter. My next set will be Pleistocene Americans. I'm in an Ice-Agey mood, and its not because of the 60 degree F temperature in my house either. Man I love the cold! FYI, the pterygotus is in the Cretasus Adventure Guide for Broncosaurus Rex. This game is designed to tie-in directly with D & D, so the books in the series are worth getting to add some flavor into your games. The spinosaur stats in it have served me well (especially when the Dire template was added to it :evillaugh ).

Megantereon is in the diverse family of sabre-toothed cats, on the smaller side at 4 feet in length. It stalks the sparsely forested plains, and hunts the deer and rodents that roam its home. In most in other aspects it is similar to a smilodon.

Combat
It fights like a smilodon.
Pounce (Ex): When a megantereon makes a charge, it can follow with a full attack including its rake attack.
Rake (Ex): A megantereon gains extra natural attacks when it grapples its foe. Normally, a monster can attack with only one of its natural weapons while grappling, but megantereon gains two additional claw attacks that it can use only against a grappled foe. Rake attacks are not subject to the usual –4 penalty for attacking with a natural weapon in a grapple.A megantereon must begin its turn grappling to use its rake-it can’t begin a grapple and rake in the same turn.

A couple of sites of interest:

This website has some 200+ 3D-rendered pictures of prehistoric awesomeness. I highly recommend you check it out.

This Wikipedia page has a listing of all currently known dinosaurs, along with a few other beasties that were formerly classified as dinos but have since then been moved to other categories (I laughed at the one that's actually petrified wood :D).

About Critters Pixel Shack-Yes, I've been there. Nice 3D renderings. I have the place bookmarked (and Wikipedia too). I might add some pictures of the above (as soon as I get the hang of getting them on this site!).

Edit: I got the hang of it. All of the creatures I've made now have pictures. Behold the wonder that is gigantopithecus! Look into his eyes, do you not see intelligence?!

Full Attack: Bite +10 melee (1d8 +9)

Koolasuchus is the cold-weather version of eogyrinus. It lives alone, doesn't meet with others of its kind unless to mate, and has an appetite to match its big head.

Combat
Improved Grab (Ex): If a koolasuchus hits with a bite attack, it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. No initial touch attack is required. Improved grab works only against opponents medium size or smaller. The koolasuchus has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use its bite to hold the opponent. If it chooses to do the latter, it takes a –20 penalty on grapple checks, but is not considered grappled itself; the koolasuchus does not lose its Dexterity bonus to AC and still threatens an area. A successful hold does not deal any extra damage. Each successful grapple check it makes during successive rounds automatically deals the 1d8 damage of the bite. When a koolasuchus gets a hold after an improved grab attack, it pulls the opponent into its space. This act does not provoke attacks of opportunity. It can even move (possibly carrying away the opponent), provided it can drag the opponent’s weight.
Swallow Whole (Ex): If a koolasuchus begins its turn with an opponent held in its mouth (see Improved Grab), it can attempt a new grapple check (as though attempting to pin the opponent). If it succeeds, it swallows its prey, and the opponent takes bite damage. The opponent must be medium size or smaller. A creature in the koolasuchus' gullet has 1d6 acid damage done to it each round. A swallowed creature is considered to be grappled, while the koolasuchus is not. A swallowed creature can try to cut its way free with any light slashing or piercing weapon (the amount of cutting damage required to get free is 15 points), or it can just try to escape the grapple. The Armor Class of the interior of a koolasuchus is 10+1/2 its natural armor bonus, with no modifiers for size or Dexterity. If the swallowed creature escapes the grapple, success puts it back in the koolasuchus’ mouth, where it may be bitten or swallowed again.

Hello, once again, Dino-threadites.

I've been recently skimming over some of the older Dinos I've done, and have noticed some errors, along with other 'features' that I think I would have definitely left out or redone now. As such, I'm starting to go through and update the Dinos mechanically, as well as cosmetically, into the new format. (OH NO!)

In other news, I highly reccommend checking out the page here: Dino Shop. They have a lot of high-quality looking replicas that have definitely caught my eye, as well as toys for the younglings. T-Rex 1/4 scale skull is on my want-but-probably-won't-get list at a steep $200, but the 1/6 scale Pteranodon skull (or the 1/2 scale Deinonychus skull) is one I'll be ordering soon. Only $40! I'm not sure if the height listed (about half a foot) is for the skull or the skull and the stand, but the picture makes me think that its for the skull itself. I'll post my own comparisons when/if it arrives. (The T-Rex skull is shown next to a Pepsi can, and the picture was taken, from what I can tell, on the same table).

I'll post or link to the updated Dinos when I finish a couple.

Just curious, does anyone happen to have a picture of Eshanosaurus? It's the only dino I can't find a pic for.

Just so this post isn't a total waste of prehistoric space, here's a few critters I'd like to see, if anyone's interested:

Desmatosuchus (a giant lizard with spikes)
Icthyosaur (a prehistoric dolphin)
Metriorhynchus (a crocodile that could catch pterosaurs - massive jump check, anyone?)
Placerias (another one of those mammal-like reptiles)
Placodus (a turtle...reptile...thing)
Pterygotus (think scorpion on steroids)
