There have been books I've read that have put me strongly in mind of D&D - Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser books, for instance. But that isn't necessarily enough to bring to mind a Birthright campaign; it's one thing to be an adventurer, it's another to be a regent (or to be working with one). However, I'm currently reading George R.R. Martin's "A Game of Thrones," and it has really got me fired up for my 3E Birthright campaign.

That got me thinking: has anyone else encountered books that reminded you of Birthright or made you itch to play a Birthright campaign?

Katherine Kerr's Deverry series always put me in mind of Birthright, Or Katherine Kurtz's Deryni series.

I like both those series as a comparatively low magic setting with great insight into the political underpinnings of the setting.

Br all over really :D

Game of thrones is good:

Also here's a list of published birthright books:

Iron Throne Simon Hawke
War Simon Hawke
GreatHeart Dixie Lee Mckeone
The Hag's Contract by John Betancourt
The Spider's Test by Dixie Lee McKeone

That link has Richard Baker's book as well plus some other Birtright resources.

I did not read The Hag's Contract but the others were good stories. Likewise Game of Thrones is good for the setting.

It might seem strange, and the tone is often not the most apropos for Birthright, but the Belgariad and the Malorean series by David Eddings is at least worth a look. A character like 'Zakkath would be amazing in the setting. A man whose face is so commonly seen by the people that if he dresses in common clothing is free to wander around because they just can't associate him with it.
