You can also override rules and take whatever skill you want if you press the house rules button. So in this case you would do that for your ranger. That's perfectly ok with me ... if the CB calculates the correct bonus for this "illegal" skill.

For this particular screen it isn't quite that simple because in the long term I want this interface to work for importing people's forum posts also. It is much easier to read in something that was pasted by a different user with just one format. Ah, yeah, if you're trying to standardize in two directions I see the dilema. Good luck.

*Does a merry little dance*
Thanks for the reply on turning off individual powers/feats/items. I'm happy to see that there are at least plans to make it happen in the future. My 4E game goes live next week so it's going to be a lifesaver to have this available for quick character generation (even if all the bells and whistles might not be active).

My suggestion is: Stop adding features! Get it working with PHB/DMG/MM with a printable character sheet and ship it!
Once that is done, begin playing catch up on books in FIFO order while adding 1-2 incremental features at the same time.
This is a live service tool. It does NOT have to be perfect when shipped to be useful to subscribers. :-)
Todd Totally agree. This is a case of Featureholics Anonymous. Just get some shambling character builder out there for the public to use!

Very much looking forward to this releasing. Will be much easier to make suggestions once we have it in hand and see it in action.

I will likely be running the Character Builder in two interesting niches: Linux, which I commented on in another thread; and as the DM sole subscriber in my playgroup. This will mean that I will be keeping copies of player's characters up on my computer so I can quickly access their information (and also print out power cards, etc. between sessions), so being able to track information like hitpoints and powers used within the application would be a great supplement, if slightly outside the problem domain (ugh. Too much programming and now I toss words like problem domain around in regular conversation).
Another thing that would be useful is if you can prevent numbers from printing in certain character sheet boxes that you expect to have to change frequently over the course of an encounter.

Another thing that would be useful is if you can prevent numbers from printing in certain character sheet boxes that you expect to have to change frequently over the course of an encounter. The character sheet is actually quite well done if your goal is to use it for tracking during game play. Your daily and encounter powers have checkboxes that you can click on to check off. Your hit points, surges, and death saves are all easy to track, as are your action points. Tim also added a button (not in beta) that does a short rest for your character, and a button for extended rest. This resets all the appropriate things.
I haven't tried tracking 5 at once myself, so I don't know how cumbersome that is but I believe WotC_DM does exactly what you described and has made a feature request to make it easier in the future.

Use the red green and black color codes for the at will, encounter, and daily powers.
Would it be too much work to link the powers to the compendium? We pretty much do both of these things, but once you get the program let me know if you have a more specific request pertaining to this.

Sorry if this question is redundant, but will Dragon-article crunch 'n fluff be in the Character Builder? I'm currently playtesting a Barbarian for LFR and am looking forward to making him over using the Character Builder...however, if the Barbarian playtest isn't in there, I'm a bit out of luck, eh? The plan is that we update the character builder on the 4th tuesday of each month and it contains the previous month's dragon magazine and all the paper books that were released 7 days earlier. Our paper products come out on the third tuesday of the month.
This is how the compendium is being updated generally also.
