Very nice article, I love the idea of a Kobold Wild Mage.

I was surprised to find this posted so early Agreed. And it was an excellent article.
I have to admit, against my prior prejudice, I'm finding I like the new dragon. Not enough available in dungeon to render a verdict yet, but dragon is turning out pretty nice.

I'm about to run the waterfall/cave section of KotS for a group.. I might replace a few of the kobolds with ones from this.. but I have to be careful not to make it too hard (virtually everything in this is higher level then the ones in kots/mm)
Maybe put a piker and spiker outside the cave, and replace something inside with a vermin Handler...
I really want to use the wild mage but he's a bit strong for this point.
I'm definately going to use some of these in my 'real' campaign though.. there's just some very neat ideas.

Okay, did anyone else laugh their tail off at the 'Kobold Victory Chart'?
The nice thing about the chart is, with a little fudging of dice rolls, it can very easily be used to help balance an encounter slightly. If the PCs aren't doing too well, the kobolds steal things and run off to hide them, or just hide under the unconscious PCs. If the PCs are mostly kicking tail and one gets in a lucky hit then there's a few different minor buffs to help even the odds somewhat.
But most importantly, almost all the options are interesting, and can be quite memorable if used properly.

But most importantly, almost all the options are interesting, and can be quite memorable if used properly. IIRC, Mike Mearls posted this half-jokingly in his blog on a "how would I make kobolds better" and was promptly hailed and asked to make it official... Guess he decided it was worth a shot. :D
And I like the descriptions on what the kobold does, rather than the simple actions/bonuses. "Does a little victory dance" is pure win.

Now this is the kind of thing I want to see out of Dragon. This article was great. Maybe its because I was actually at my desk putting the finishing touches on my homebrew adventure for Saturday that heavily featured kobolds and decided to take a break and found this... but it is perfect. Beautiful. I wrote three more encounters based solely around some of these kobolds.
For instance two Kobold Pikers stand next two each other on a ten foot wide bridge, if anyone closes within melee, the one diagonal to the PC will attempt to use Warding Strike to push the PC off the bridge to fall 20 feet into a water filled chasm with skeleton minions ready to swarm them.
Depending on how easy of a time the PCs have had with previous encounters I might throw in a Kobold Spiker or Slinger behind the pikers to give some artillery support.
This I feel has the making of an awesome encounter.
This is the kind of thing I want to see out of D&DI
Aesop had it right 2,500 years ago, "By endeavoring to please everyone, he had pleased no one, and lost his ass in the bargain".

This is yet another really good article. It pains me that they wont let us pay for Dragon seperately. None of the other D&DI features have anything of value to me yet I would gladly pay for this quality of article.
