Wow we have alot to read through ... No further Dragons are needed... Watch for the competition to begin soon.

===============================

In 2004, we introduced the D&D Creature Competition: Head-to-Head. In that competition (won by the lovely Succubus Paladin), we asked folks here at Wizards of the Coast to nominate their preferred candidates.

In 2005, we wanted to try something a little different. And in our effort to better involve the player community with the D&D website, we asked (via this message board thread) for you to nominate candidates for creature competition 2: Battle Royal.

In 2006, we have decided to involve both the folks here at wizards and our player community. However what we are looking for this time is Dragons!

Starting now and going till January 24th we will be taking suggestions for the competitors (in this thread). So pick a type of dragon, come up with one or two paragraphs describing that dragon, and don't forget to give your dragon a creative name. We will be including our favorites in the next creature competition.

We are looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hmmm... I don't see a CR limit given . Time to get those ideas ironed out, named, and into this thread . I just I hope I get time enough, what with school having started again and all...

Does this mean a straight-run dragon, or can we apply templates, such as half dragon to another type of creature to make it a dragon?

Azagotharoth, Advanced Great Red Wyrm

Azagotharoth, a legendary "invictus" great red wyrm who has long outlived many of his rivals, he dreams of world dominination but has a realitive fear of spellcasters. He has slowly begun to spin a conspiracy, secretly forging alligence from many kingdoms. He desires to eliminate all knowledge of magic, and then usher in a New Age, where he alone is King of the Material Plane.

Physically, he is at his peak, being larger and more powerful than even "typical" great gold wyrms. He has two unique markings: one of his great head-horns has been cleaved off during his battle with an epic fighter wielding an artifact-longsword, and a large burnt-mark scar on his chest, near his heart from a battle with a trio of epic Warlocks. Otherwise, his body is in perfect shape.

We would like to start with a dragon and work from there... it doesn't have to be a basic red dragon.. for instance it could be a emerald dragon or a fang dragon...or a dragon with a template like a zombie dragon... the selection comittee will be looking for creative and interesting dragons but you know the people voting will be looking at the raw power... we don't need stats at this time but feel free to work some up in case yours is chosen and you want to help convince people to vote for it

Let's go Kraatashksk, the fiendish black dragon elemental master.age category :great wyrm( a bit of a cliché ) . His lair isn't guarded at all,Kraatashksk thinks he's so great...
He owns the Swamp of Eternal Suffering ,which is inhabited by other black dragons (though none live to get very large.Kraatashksk hates competition ),plenty of non-intelligent undead creatures and a small clan of Blackscale lizardfolk, who pay homage to the great dragon.Lately,Kraatashksk doesn't leave his lair much.He prefers to count every single coin in his hoard daily. And if he can't find one coin, the inhabitants of the swamp feel it.The pool surrounding his lair no langer contains water,it is all acid now,and entering his lair requires unusual methods. His skin is marked with various scars,as he was abused by his parents, and he will have his vengeance,in this life or the next (Gladiator quote :P )

Over a thousand years old, and coming close to the age of 1200 years, This wyrm Silver Dragon has been a force to be reckoned with for the past millenium. He has been present at several pivotal battles, a claim that can only be met by other dagons and perhaps the eldest of elven sages. His given name has long since been lost to time, and is now known only to him; the few who remember him call him by the name of Amadon (Elven for Silverflower), a name given to him by the ancient Elven king, Carlias.

Amadon never truly adapted to close combat, much preferring to engage enemies from a distance (or not at all). To augment his already potent abilities, Amadon began studying the arcane magicks in order to further his abilities as a spellcaster. His studies never progressed too far, however; much of his time was devoted elsewhere.

Amadon's days of fighting are all but over now, and he spends his years in a remote village in the form of an old man, spreading stories about his 'glorious' past and his ancient elven heritage. Most of these stories seem fictitious, only meant as fireside stories for young children, yet there remains a ring of truth to them nevertheless, and one can only wonder if the seemingly far-fetched stories of this long-winded old man might just be true...

In the endless darkness of the Plane of Shadow, dragons continue to rule the skies as they have on the material plane. The only difference is the nature of these dragons. Setsuna is one such dragon. As a shadow dragon, and a powerful one at that, even the most dangerous beasts on the plane give him a wide berth. On top of his formidible powers over shadow and negative energy, Setsuna hatched with a strange power over fortune. He is a hexblade, or hexfang, as he calls it.

Setsuna enjoys casting his magic to appear as a dark skinned, white haired human during his occassional forays into the material plane. Though still proud and generally evil, he has found that the humble humaniods on that plane are a fascinating bunch, and he has learned a great deal about his powers as a hexblade while living there. Recently, he has decided to explore other aspects of the material plane, and has set up a permanent lair in a deep underground cavern. As a result, the numbers of dragonslayers who try to earn a reputation on his hide have given him plenty of practice in both his disguised form and his normal, draconic state. At this point, Setsuna's prime concern is to subjegate the fools who share his territory before they grow too bold.

To Setsuna, the entire material plane is a massive source of continuous entertainment and education. Even as he goes about his personal business or in his disguise, he looks for ways to get a good laugh or a lesson out of every day. Cursing sentient beings, particularly arrogant or talented ones, never ceases to promise a laugh to him. His familiar, a grey owl named Nightwing, serves as an extra set of eyes and ears, thus allowing Setsuna to curse someone and then go about his day, his link showing him his victims antics and giving him an instant alibi of physical distance.

Tactics: Setsuna fights most prey in his disguised state, but if faced with another dragon or other powerful opponent, all bets are off as he reverts to his original form. Early on, he drains his victims with a stream of his draining breath weapon and/or his powerful curses. By casting cursed blade and poison on his teeth and claws, Setsuna inflicts devastating injuries that leave even the most powerful beasts emaciated wrecks. Even magic healing won't solve the problem for his foes. If this doesn't flat out drop his victim, he releases his full repitoire of spells and spell-like abilities. He then tears at his foes, and even makes them panic as he uses his mobility to always leave his foes guessing as to where he might attack next from.

Setsuna's vicious combo of hexblade special abilities and his own power as a shadow dragon make him a challenge for even the most powerful foes.

Mark, can we use Dragon material and WotC website stuff too? Both have some neat templates as well as additional lesser and true dragons. I've got several already written since December, just gotta flesh them out. Maybe for half-dragons the base creature can be either a lesser dragon or a creature that is very dragon-like.

Finally, my dream competition!
