Dear Fellow-TOs: Some posters have noted that deck boxes are missing from the Conflux Launch Party Support kits; they were not happy. (See here.) This now raises the more general question what we want to see in these kits, ie, what addresses our needs and what our players do like. The WPN team is happy to listen to what we have to say. Eg, nearly two years ago there was a thread about TO rewards, and the one thing that was demanded most were table numbers. As you all know, table numbers are now included to all Prerelease kits. I'd therefore suggest that we post in this thread suggestions and ideas we may have for the contents of these kits. As the VCL for these boards, I can then go ahead and ask the WPN team to run an online poll on this issue (actually, I've received a preliminary approval already). As I mentioned already in another thread, the design of these kits is surprisingly complex due to the various units inside WotC that are involved in the process. So not every pipe dream will come true, and not everyone will be equally happy in the end. But maybe we arrive at kits that are better tailored to our needs. (Well, maybe not, but I think it's worth a shot.) Let me start below with a number of suggestions of how poll questions might look like. Please, chime in with your own suggestions for questions and for content ideas! +++++++++ Question #1

Looks good Billbo! I agree with all the questions you have there already. The only thing I might add is some questions about casual magic support kits. Or add those in as possible answers to the questions.

Billbo,
I like the idea of 6b. A thought I was having is, having like a online store, that is only opened during like a month before the release events that TOs can go to buy items like deck boxes and sleeves etc to have as support items for their event. Have a certain cap on how many of each item they can buy.
Just my two cents on 6a. As for the rest, love all the question!!!

bump :D ...
... hoping for more to chip in.
... and what about play-mats and/or t-shirt for Prereleases? Or standees like the one they sent us for the "10Ed Game Day" or the City Championship? They are great for posting pairings/standings/prize pay-outs inside the store, or just for putting them up at the store front or in a public space like a library to advertise Magic events.

1) I think the deck boxes should be included as prize support for all kits, pre-release and launch parties. This gives everyone a chance to be able to get something special and lets face it - they arent that expensive.
2) The prints were cool but I also know I threw away more than I think I gave away and I had to spend about ten minutes cleaning them off my floor. So good idea but they dont work. People dont want them.
3) Score pads should be included in everything. Some more of the cheap Magic pens would also be nice for them to include again. If they want a cheaper idea I would say Magic golf pencils would be great!
4) For the most part I dont need table numbers. I already painted numbers on my tables ages ago. But if they continue to send them I would like the numbers pre-printed. Most of mine smudged when I tried to use them.
5) I think that Flyers would be great.
6) I would like them to provide Unique playmats as prizes. They have already said they wont do T-shirts as they cannot ship these internationally (that is what they told me at GAMA GTS). GOOD deck boxes (not cheap plastic) would be great. THe Standees that they sent us took up too much room in my opinion. Our space is valuable and those things dont make me money as a shop owner and TO.
7) We would be willing to purchase special items but they would have to be unique items that were done low print run with VERY strict allocation. I dont want to spend hard money on prizes to see StarCity get 1000 of them and place them for sale. I would also be willing to purchase promo cards to be able to give away at my weekly tournaments. That is a huge draw for my players. (I missed summer of magic this year)

I like those ideas a ton. The stand for D&D Game Day got alot of attention in our store, I think there were alot of people that didn't realize we even carried RPG's. It simply made our main Game Day succeed. Play-mats I could care less about, we get awesome mana-mats all the time that our players obsess over. T-shirts wouldn't be bad.
These ideas got me thinking though... what about backpacks? We've had a total of 3-4 back packs and every time I give them out as prizes the players get super excited for them.

That is a huge draw for my players. (I missed summer of magic this year) I completely agree. I think that more "unique" prizes would be a huge draw for players. Playmats would be spectacular. We ordered a few of the agents of artifice books due to players getting an alternate art Jace. Over the course of 3 days, we've had over 30 players pre-order that book, just for the card even though this is Jace's second reprint. They are most going to be getting the xbox 360 game for the alternate art Garruk as well. People play FNM not to get a Myr enforcer, but to get an alternate art much rarer print of myr enforcer. If the promo cards at pre releases and launch parties were a bit higher caliber of card (much like figure of destiny, or ajani vengeant after people realized it was good) it would be better for players and shops alike. Possibly a 2 tiered card system? A promo card for showing up, and a promo card for the top X players who place. If I asked any of my players how excited they were to get an alternate art obelisk of alara, the response I got the most was:
"I'm not too excited about getting a sealed / draft average rare as a promo card. It's useless in constructed."
Now if the promo's had worked like the following:
20 Obelisk of Alara (alternate foil) [participation] 3 Volcanic fallout (alternate foil) [2nd 3rd 4th] 1 Banefire (alternate foil) [first]
Do you know how excited players would be? How much getting that first place position would be sought after? Yes printing 3 cards would be more work for wizards, but I think it would draw players.

I definatley agree that more prize support or "alternate"/"unique" prizes would be an asset. On the player side of things I find that it's frustrating that due to prize support changes over time the larger Prerelease location that I go to has stopped doing their "challenge" rounds (a single round during the event where players could win a pack regarless of their win-loss record at the end of the event) and have had to substitute sleeves for all players. Sure for newer players this can be a treat, but how many times can you get a free pack of sleeves before it gets old? Alternative art cards, playmats, pieces of artwork, etc. as extra prizes (even door prizes) would be a huge draw.

I suggest adding in a question about whether or not the stores get the kits in time. Here in Alaska we rarely get the kits at all until after the event occurs. We may not be the only ones, so the poll should probably ask. I'd rather have a bad kit mailed a week sooner than the current kits.

Based on your experience and feedback you've received as TO, would you suggest that plastic deck boxes should be included to support kits?
Check box: Prerelease Kits Check box: Launch Party Kits
Great Idea! I think it would be nice to have them for the "special events". Most player coming to the event I helped with complain that they have to "cram" all their cards in their tournament pack (of course, we sell deck boxes too, but...). As they are no tournament packs in the near future, I think such a thing would help greatly.
+++++++++++++++++++ Based on your experience and feedback you've received as TO, would you suggest that art work/prints should be included to support kits?
Check box: Tournament Support Kits
From what I could see, most of the prints were not really used. I think it would be nice in Trounament Kits for people interested in them.
+++++++++++++++++++ Based on your experience and feedback you've received as TO, would you suggest that score pads should be included to support kits?
Check box: Prerelease Kits Check box: Launch Party Kits Check box: Tournament Support Kits
An absolute must! Most tournament participant comes without dices (guys near me, not as a general rule). Score pads and maybe cheap pens would be a great help!
+++++++++++++++++++ Based on your needs as TO, would you suggest that table numbers should be included to support kits?
Check box: Prerelease Kits Check box: Launch Party Kits Check box: Tournament Support Kits
That is already implemented but I think it would still be very valuable. We have no other means to mark the table and it diminish the number of "where is my seat"/"Who is XXX" questions at tournament
+++++++++++++++++++ Based on your needs as TO, would you suggest that Launch Party flyers should be included to Prerelease Support Kits?
Check box: No
There where some such flyers for Conflux (you got an extra poster if you showed it at the release party but 80% of them ended in our floor and was trashed... Nice idea but most of the guys going to a prerelease know when the release is going to be.
+++++++++++++++++++ Based on your experience and feedback you've received as TO, what items would you like WotC to provide as prize support?
Some of the prizes already given are cool. Here some of the thing would be great prizes:
- T-Shirts - Posters - Playmats - Dices (Fatpack dices are really nice) - Foil Tokens (never saw those but still) - Deck Boxes (foil? better quality than the free ones? with artwork?) - Magic counters. Never saw those either, but as WotC's policy is to have only +1/+1 and -1/-1 counter now (beside all "special counters", it would be nice to have some sort of pewter token from wizard.
+++++++++++++++++++ If you were asked to pay for such an item in support, how much would you be willing to pay and how often?
- Depends on the price I had to pay for and how "Special" they were. I would prefer for them to be free but would be willing to pay for some of the stuff I mentioned...
