1. Jedi Weapon Master-These talents are AMAZING, especially Twin Weapon Style. (Plus, that Rodian in te illustration is the model for an NPC Jedi in an evil campaign I run. There's a mini of that guy, too, but with a blue lightsaber drawn and the swords on his back. He's a pretty badass looking dude. ) 2. Lightsaber Combat Talent - All the classics are here, from Block to Deflect to Redirect Shot. 3. Sense-I like the prophety type Force talents. 4. Jedi Artisan-It's a good idea, and some of these are pretty good. 5. Infamy-Just awesome.'
......Yes, I love Forxe-users as characters (I didn't include Force Tradition talent rrees, since they're somewhat different, but they would be up there. You can, though), but it's less of that and more that their talent trees tend to be more distinctive and interesting than those for other characters.
Verrry interesting....
I'd choose 1. Privateer. For Blaster and Blade mainly, but there are some other good ones too. 2. Advanced Medicine. Very specific and only useful if you want to heal instead of deal damage (like I sometimes do), but if you do these can't be beat. 3. Mercenary. Truthfully it isn't the best ever, but its not bad and it has a certain feel that I love. Good if you want to make a certain type of character. 4. Lightsaber Combat. Though I'm slowly beginning to migrate towards Lightsaber Defense instead, Block, Deflect, and Redirect Shot are all some top-tier talents. And all 4 of them are in the same tree... How can anyone not love this talent tree? It's just awesome. Add in Lightsaber Throw and this one just can't be beat. 5. Tie. Control and Fortune. Control is one of (if not the) most powerful talent trees in the game, let alone the core rulebook. Damage Reduction 10, Equilibrium, etc. IMO, the best defensive/tankie tree in the game. And I like the flavor. Forutne is a pretty cool tree with some really great "luck" abilities. Also, its one of the rarest Core Rulebook base trees because only the Gunslinger has access to it. Truthfully, I'm not sure why I like it so much. I just do.
Hm, I forgot about Blaster and Blade, that would be on my list too.
Top 5 Books (Aside from the SECR) 1. KotORCG-I'm a massive KotOR fan, and there's a lot of abilities and powers in here straight from those games, not to mention the vehicles, droids, weapons, archetypes, prestige classes from those games as well. This was one of the boooks where I really noticed that they dropped the ball on named character stats (As in, mission Vao instead of an Old Republic Officer), in particular just on who they included. (No Mical? Seriously?). But it's still an amazing book, and the generic character statblocks are excellent. 2. SotG-For most people this would be on the top of their lists, but.....KotOR! b Anyway, I don't ned to explain this one very much, haha. 3. FUCG-It has really excellent prestige classes, feats, organization rulesm talents, etc. The NPC stats were pretty good here too, aside from Kota's statblock. (8 Intelligence?) 4. S&V-Just everything in here is gold. Modification rules, cool prestige classes, good feats and species (Jawa! Clawdite!). 5. JatM-This is actually surprisingly low on my list given how much I love this book, but it only has options for Force Users. However, those options are FANTASTIC! And, there are tons of Force traditions! The statblocks suck, though. Corran's dosen't make use of the Enforcer class (since that's from the FUCG), dosen't have any sort of mind trick enhancements beyond 2 uses of it, has typos all over the place, dosen't have any levels in Jedi Master (!), dosen't have Illusion, and leaves out a few other major things for him. Plus, CL 13 is too low. 15 at least, to represent his time as an investigator, Rogue Squadron ace, and finally long career as a Jedi (reaching Master, obviously). I used CL 17 for my statblock for him, not becuase he's an ultra powerful Jedi but because he's done so much and had so much experience. He is a pretty strong Jedi, though. Also, whoever wrote the blurb accompnanying Kieran Halcyon's stats somehow missed that when Corran impersonates him, it's not actually Corran. It thus contradicts itself at least once.
1. LECG. Truthfully, this is probably just because I have a campaign set in that era. But its also pretty great. The Imperial Knight Prestige Class is almost OP. 2. JATM. Lightsaber form powers are a wonderful idea. The extra Force Traditions are really cool too, especially the ones WoTC created (Shapers of Kro Var and Wardens of the Sky). I also like the heavy dose of Sith magic. 3. SotG. Maybe it should be higher on the list (probably). 2 things: Starship modifications and the Its a Trap! talent. The Tech Specialist feat and Outlaw Tech talent tree are cool too. 4. SaV. The tech modification section is pretty cool, as is the focus on the seedier side of the galaxy. On a side note, this book has my favorite selection of species. 5. FUCG. The unleasehd feat is a cool concept and its interesting to see characters from the game statted up in Saga terms.
I hate the Unknown Regions book. By itself, there isn't anything wrong with it. But so much of its content is better than anything in any of the other books. Like Elder's Knowledge and the Gambler talent. That said, its there, so might as well use it.
lets do that next: Top Five things we dislike about Saga.

Phew! I've been a bit busy, sorry for the late reply,
1. Grappling. 'Nuf said. 2. This isn't really a gripe with Saga, pre se, but it's related. The WotC run of minis was pretty good, and I've been commissioning customs from Darthbane53 (He's the . Seriously.), so those aren't an issue in terms of having minis for many different chars. But starships......the minis Starship Battles game didn't do so well (and rightly so, I can't stand it as a skirmish game), so with only one base set and next to zero possibility of being able to make customs of starships (due to hier nature), I can't use the WotC minis in an campaign not set in the ovie timeframe.
Plus, no Ebon Hawk.
3. The statblocks. See my rant above. Happily, its very easy to make our own. I honestly don't have a 4 and 5, I love Saga, heh......

First, an experience from a game I played in a few years back. Our DM didn't like 3.5 as a whole but liked parts of it. So he hands us a big ass rules packet for his modified FR campaign, complete with quotes from important NPC's on the front. I can't remember most of the HRs, just that some how gods like Cyric and Bhaal existed at the same time, despite the obvious problems there. In the end the game became a problem more because of the railroading than the HRs, but it ended with this classic line, after our ranger tried to disarm the strange woman following us WITH HIS BOW: DM: You just killed (insert random noble sounding name here) JP: Was she important? Jack: Dude, she's quoted on the front of the rules packet!

Cut the last encounter on your way out after dealing with the Darth. He's the BBEG. Treat him as such. Play up that Darth Revan is THAT much of a badarse. When the shuttle landed, I had no less than 13 JEDI MASTERS step off the shuttle. The PCs were slack-jawed. After the meetup with Bastila (as she's carrying Revan's body), only TWO jedi masters remained with her. Let me tell you, the player whining about not getting to fight Revan himself shut up pretty quickly when he saw that.

1. Species don't get a corresponding penalty to attacks equal to their penalty to defense. That just doesn't make sense. If two humans were somehow changed in to being 20 meters tall, they would have no easier time hitting one another than they did before. I know some disagree, and that's totally ok, but this was my first houserule. 2. Size flaws. Technically 1 could be lumped in here, but this is more broad and also minor: the rules work great for medium, small, and large characters. But things start getting messy when to the more extremes. Especially for your Colossal (capital) sized starships. (your telling me a Star Destoryer is as easy to hit as a YT-1300?). I houseruled in max dexterities for each category above colossal, but its still not perfect. 3. How shabby it is. Let me explain: I love Saga. It's great. But a lot of times, it feels half baked. The statblocks are full of holes, nd everybook needs substantial errata (the probe droid in the core is proficient with "blasters" and "slugthrowers"). Did I mention the statblocks? Even if I did, its worth mentioning twice. I'm more surprised to find a 'block without a mistake than with one. 4. This one is minor but I don't like how Starships don't have a set way to calculate CL. In fact, I use a calculator given to me on this board and then modified, so its no real biggie. 5. The Weight vs. Mass sidebar on page 256. I'll just go blunt: That's entirely false. If force x creates y acceleration on object z, then force -x creates an equal but opposite acceleration on object z. In other words, if it takes 5 N of force to make something move, it takes 5 N of force to stop it. The only reason this is at the bottom of the list is because it is sooooooo minor. If we were going on sheer grinds-my-gears-edness, this one would take the cake. It isn't just a one time thing either, WotC says the same thing in d20 future.
If your curious, the max dex for a station is 0, cruiser is 5, and frigate is 10. Ships smaller than that are agile enough no fix is necessary.

Ships can be station sized, and a max dex of 0 would typically mean it's immobile. I think a better solution might be to create new size modifiers rather than keep the -10 all the way through. Maybe have stations at -20 Cruisers at -15, and Frigates at -12. This would allow people to still increase the dex, representing better manueverability, while still achieving the desirable result of showing something bigger is easier to hit.

That's a pretty good idea.
I think they chose -10 because it means that if the ship has no armor (hypothetical) then you have to roll a 0 to hit. Which means that it is impossible to miss without unless you account for other variables like distance. That makes sense to me.
My logic was that stations are so massive it would take a huge amount of time to move them enough to make a difference. So long, in fact, that by the time they did you could easily just line up a new attack. Cruisers are also very large but they are tiny enough to be able to avoid attacks every once in a blue moon. Frigates are actually pretty small in the grand scheme of things, so they can actually avoid some attacks, but not enough to give them much of a bonus.
That said, I might use your system instead...
Heres a little bit of physics logic for ya': If a ship is twice as large/"heavy" (for lack of a better word), then it takes twice as much force to accelerate at the same rate as a ship half its size. Also, since it is twice as big, it needs to accelerate twice as much to move the larger ship a proportional amount to the smaller ship (lets say 3 ship lengths). Therefore, the larger ship actually needs four times as much force as a ship half its size to maneuver as effectively.
Hmm... I'm thinking about it and truthfully you should modify both dexterity and size modifier to create an accurate assessment. Also, if we follow just logic, frigates should get a -20 (Compare Corellian Corvette to YT-13000), cruisers should get -50 (compare Star Destroyer to Corellian Corvette), and stations should get a -100 (compare Super Star Destroyer with Star Destroyer).
I have more to ramble about but this is already too long to read...

Like the max Dex houserule a lot, it's pretty intuitive! Station is 0? Something that size could be a ship though, right?
Thanks man. It irked me that a Star Destroyer was harder to hit than a YT-1300 (I'm not counting armor bonuses either).
Heres another possible house rule: Whenever an attack misses because of an armor bonus, instead of just negating the attack, you just treat the ship's DR as 10x as high. This is just to make them game a little more logical (that ARC-170 armor will be very helpful against an equivelent ship, but against a Turbolaser it won't do so good...). This rule would take extra time, so its certainly not right for every game.
EDIT: Would you like me to post all of my houserules?

This is assuming of course they're using the same size engines. The engines on a Super Star Destroyer are bigger than light freighters. A -100 size modifier would be rediculous They super star destroyer would be impossible to pilot. -20 is the max I'd ever go, and I'd probably do increments of 2 if I ever implemented it. -10 colossal, -12 frigate, -14 cruiser, -16 station(This shows some change, but doesn't terribly upset game balance). A target's Reflex Defense doesn't nessicarily show how hard it is to hit a target, but more of landing a hit that will actually do damage. A Star Destroyer has military grade ECM and armor. A YT-1300 is a very unmanueverable civilian light freighter with civilian armor and likely no or very basic ECM(In fact, it's one of the worst in terms of dex score). I think you're going way overboard with some of your modifiers to the point where if two cruiser are in range they'll be hitting eachother every single time they don't roll a 1. Maximum range turbolasers should not be landing hits 95% of the time for full battery damage. You'd completely ruin cruiser vs cruiser combat.

I do like that rule a lot, but I probably wouldn't apply it for the PCs, since their survivability is already low enough in space heh. It makes space combat a lot more intuitive, which truth be told is something that it needs badly. I'd love if you made a thread for them if/when you get a chance, they definitely seem worth a look!
