Hi everyone
I just started collecting SSB as i would like to try and work them into a project i'm working on. It's kind of a 'galactic conquest' campaign thing where you will fight for control of the galaxy one planet at a time, having to fight for orbital control before you can land your troops and battle for the planet with SWM miniatures.
My problem is, i think there's not enough ships to fill my needs. So i thought that you guys might have some good ideas as to where i can get some ships that's about the same scale as SSB's. I'm especially interested in any ships (all classes) that could be used for the fringe. Also, a republic carrier, v-19 torrent, and separatist landing craft is a high priority. But any ideas are welcome.
Also another question. I've experienced that people tend to thing the original rules suck. What are the best alternative rules according to you?

Check through the forums a few pages in. Many people (Including myself) Have built additional ships or found models to use elsewhere..
Look for custom threads by:
Rogue Knight Guardian_A
and many others. (Can't remember more names off the top fo my head)
Also look for the Rogue Fleet thread for a list of ships with instructions on how to build them. If you can't find the instructions, let me know. I Have them, and the V-19 is one of the ones I made instructions for.
Not sure what ship you mean by "Republic Carrier"
And for the Sep Landing craft, there is a AMT ERTL snapfast model that works well. I am not sure of their availability any more, but they are usually $5.00 or less.
I have four of them and the work great.
Also, if you go to starshipmodeler.com, one company called Odyssey Slipways has models that work well for the SSB scale, namely the Dreadnaughts, Assault Frigates, and MC80b, and the seppy Diamond Cruiser.
Other CW era ships that are relatively easy to convert are:
Z-95 Headhunters, Hyena bombers, Toscan 8Q, Republic Cruiser (The one with a Venator front end and consular engines), Charger C70 (Consular with more guns), Corellian Corvettes (Repaint Tantive IV), Providence destroyers (Re-paint Invisible Hand), Starvipers (Not CW, but fringe... Use Micro Machines. Still Class 3 size), and Interceptor IV Frigates from EaW (Convert Wild Karrde). You can also chop up starfighters to make "uglies" pretty easily.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.
Here's a list of my custom ships: Some are not canon, or at least the names are not.

@ RogueKnight Thanks for the help! It's much appreciated. Also look for the Rogue Fleet thread for a list of ships with instructions on how to build them. If you can't find the instructions, let me know. I Have them, and the V-19 is one of the ones I made instructions for.
I found this but the links are dead unfortunately. Great thread though, hope you still have those instructions.
Not sure what ship you mean by "Republic Carrier"
This is the Republic carrier i had in mind: www.starwars.com/databank/starship/repub.... It looks kind of like a Consular with a large cargo hold mounted underneath, so it might be relatively easy to make one.
And for the Sep Landing craft, there is a AMT ERTL snapfast model that works well. I am not sure of their availability any more, but they are usually $5.00 or less.
The AMT/ERTL separatist landing craft is nowhere to be found sadly, so still searching for an alternative.
Also, if you go to starshipmodeler.com, one company called Odyssey Slipways has models that work well for the SSB scale, namely the Dreadnaughts, Assault Frigates, and MC80b, and the seppy Diamond Cruiser.
Now these are fantastic, although they require some painting which i'm not that familiar with. Especially the assault frigates and Dreadnaught will do nicely i think. Do you know if Carracks, Lancers, Marauders and LAAT/i would fit in as well?
Z-95 Headhunters, Hyena bombers, Toscan 8Q, Republic Cruiser (The one with a Venator front end and consular engines), Charger C70 (Consular with more guns), Corellian Corvettes (Repaint Tantive IV), Providence destroyers (Re-paint Invisible Hand), Starvipers (Not CW, but fringe... Use Micro Machines. Still Class 3 size), and Interceptor IV Frigates from EaW (Convert Wild Karrde). You can also chop up starfighters to make "uglies" pretty easily.
I thought of making some Z-95's already, basically a chopped X-wing right? The other conversions are also some i might give a try. Corellian corvettes and Interceptors seem to be the easier ones, so i'll probably start there. The Micro Machines StarVipers are great, and i also found a Skipray model that i think would fit as well!
Some of you guys here are excellent customizers but my skill level is not that advanced so for now i'll stick with the easier ones and the already made models.
Speaking of customizing, that's one impressive list of customs you posted by the way! I'm looking forward to seeing the customs section of your site when it goes live at some point.
And to everyone: I'm still looking for fringe ships that could be used for SSB. Especially some capitals, cruisers etc. so the faction could be able to match up to the other fleets. Any suggestions are welcome, non-fringe ships as well.

Yes, I do have the instructions.
Here's what I have:
Light Side:
Eta-5 (Plan to redo) K-Wing Miy'Til V-19 Dreadnaught Alternative (Instead of buying models) FarStar N-1 Bomber Y-Wing LongProbe Lots of re-paints and Micro Machine ideas
Dark Side: TIE Heavy Bomber TIE Phantom Preybird (Plan to redo) Star Galleon Toscan 8Q TIe Avenger (Plan to redo)
That republic carrier is a troop transport, quite small.. but no reason you can't create your own ship based on that! I've done similar modifications..
The Carracks, Lancers, and LAAT are, sadly, WAY too small. the carracks and lancers are 3-4 cm... you could use them, but it just wouldn't look right.
As to painting, it takes practice, but it's not too difficult. And skills will improve over time. My modeling and painting skills were bad when I first started, but I've gotten quite a bit better. Nobody starts out mastering a skill. You have to practice :-). If you're insterested, I highly recommend it. I use Gamers Workshop paints, but there are many other brands out there.
I forgot about the skipray... That model works just fine :-) The Z-95's are basically single, fixed wing X-Wings. Use cardboard or plasticard (polystyrene) to make wings, etc. You can get the polystyrene online at hobbyclinic.com or through hobby shops that carry railroad modelling supplies.
Start out simple with the customs, and as your skill improves, get more complex. You can do it. :-) Just requires patience.
I have started on my customs site. I've got a lot of projects going right now, but hopefully in a few weeks I'll have a decent update to my site.
About the only fringe ship I have made was converting the wild karrde to an Interceptor IV frigate... You can get freighters and such in the form of micro machines...
Feel free to message me if you ever have any questions :-)

Well i went on eBay to search for Micro Machines figures. I ordered some and got them in the mail the other day and must say, ther're a nice find! I got some Z-95s (a bit too large but they'll do), some Skiprays and a some StarVipers. They all look good next to the original models, although their paintjobs aren't nearly as good. I'll try to improve those at a later point. Also got a Flurry to work as a Quasar Fire carrier. And they were easy to put on bases thanks to the holes for their original bases. So i said goodbye to a bunch of Geonosian Starfighters and a Sith Infiltrator, and hello to my new additions By the way i found a CR-20 carrier from Odyssey Slipways here (close to the bottom of the page): www.starfleet-models.com/Models/Company/...Sadly, they don't ship out of the country. So i'm actually not able to get any!! If someone would be able to help me out by ordering a pack and sending it overseas, i would really appreciate it! Anyways, i hope the link is helpful. EDIT: @RogueKnight, could you please post the instructions you mentioned earlier for the V-19 Torrent and the other ships? The links in the original thread were dead last i checked.

I was just looking around when i stumbled upon this model of the Star Forge, and thought i would post it if anyone would be interested. It's kind of pricy and the seller is based in Spain, but anyways here goes: www.transilvaniamodels.com/catalogo/star...

I already checked there, they don't have it. There are no Dreadnaught left either, and that's one i really wanted. Googling the CR-20 also leaves me empty-handed, except for www.starfleet-models.com.
Did Odyssey Slipways stop production by any chance? Because there doesn't seem to be many products available from them anywhere.
