Wizards of the Coast announcement

There have been several questions lately regarding the future of the Star Wars Miniatures and Roleplaying Game and until now I haven’t had definitive answers to give you. After a lengthy evaluation, Wizards of the Coast has decided not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but with the economic downturn, we have made the tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars lines.

The license officially ends in May this year, with WotC product available through August. In the meantime, we have awesome new products still coming your way. This week, we released The Dark Times minis and Galaxy of Intrigue RPG. We’ll have more coming with Masters of the Force minis in April, which will have some of your most favorite characters along with rare creatures from the Dejarik Holochess game that have never appeared in our game. We’ll also release The Unknown Regions RPG in April, which includes entirely new planets and mini-adventures for each world.

We are finishing the line with a bang so look for special programs at your local game store to stock up on favorite sets before they go into the vault. We will continue to support our Star Wars forums on the Wizards Community site so you can reach out and chat with us and other fans.

While I know the news is disappointing, we wanted to make this announcement as soon as possible and thank you for being such great fans. It’s been a fantastic ride with the Star Wars community and working with Lucasfilm. We hope you enjoy the next several months of great products. You never know when we may circle back again!

Long enough I suppose. I wouldn't worry too much about it, at least for the next year or so. Don't quote me on that though, I can't handle betting much.

I'm a D&D player and saw this thread previewed from those forums.  I gotta ask:  How will this affect the D&D line?  How bad is this kinda news to the big picture?

Star Wars has never had an effect on the continuation and success of D&D. They are two wholly separate entities, and always will be. Don't worry, D&D isn't going anywhere, just because Star Wars is taking a dive from WotC.

*Cries* Its...its...its because of all those highly vocal online naysayers isn't it? Isn't it!? They prophesied the doom of Saga for some months and the creators looked upon their posts and took it to be the general consesus and opted not to renew the license. One of those self-fullfilling prophecies. You beleive in it, therefore it comes true.

Time to get revenge upon the lot of em'. All ye false prophets be warned! Your time will soon be ended!

*draws lightsaber and charges* Aaaaaauuuuurrrrggghh!

(Twas' but a tongue in cheek post.)

be interesting to see what that means,if it ever comes time to do a forum reorginzation and what it means in regards to the updating of the VCL program....

Proof that your game isn't the "red head step child"
In 2002 D20 modern was published
Good support to begin with
D20 future was published with little to no thought about the Core book
Down hill spiral
In 2005 we are promised a full fleged campaign called Project Javelin
2005 is the last year that Notes from the bunker is published
2006 is the last time that Bullet Points is published along with the last Web enhancement
2006 Frist and last adventure for Project Javelin is published
2006 The last book Dark Matter is published
2008 During an interview on the illfated Radio Gamer Zero podcast Chris Perkins says they wll work on a new D20 modern in 2009
Forums are reorginzied consistenly causing the d20 modern forum existence to hang in the blance and many members of that community to openly rebel aginst WotC
So really when you whine and moan that your game is the "red headed step child" remeber the above history lesson.
