Design Notes

"I died a long time ago. So did everything I cared about. It's only the likes of me, with nothing to lose, who'll really be prepared to tear the galaxy down and start over."
- Asajj Ventress

- Used 36 point buy.
Dark rage is a must for Ventress, though her lack of control during battle is the reason she doesn't have Improved Dark Rage. Force gripmove object, and surge are used quite a bit by her as well.
- She trains with lightsaber droids at one point, so I gave her sparring practiceTelekinetic practice and training remote are also quite useful.
- At one time Ventress uses the Force to control and ride a Rancor while tracking Obi-Wan, hence Charm Beast. Plus I felt it fit her as a Dathomirian.
- Swift Power allows her do do things like Force grip Obi-Wan and Anakin simultaneously, as well as use Force grip and move object on Captain Colt.
- Her fighting style is shown by Acrobatic Strike, Running Attack, Rapid Strike, Weapon Finesse. As her style was also said to contain elements of Dooku's style, Makashi, I gave her contentious opportunity. And of course, twin strike and Dual Weapon Mastery I and II go without saying.
- Martial Arts I allows her to fight the Nightbrothers, and later Savage Oppress, unarmed.
- Ventress is a relatively skill pilot, hence training in that skill and Point Blank Shot.

If you haven't heard it already, Episode 135 of the Order 66 Podcast has a shout out to You Build the Character. I want to thank GM Chris and GM Dave for this honour.

And if you don't listen to the Order 66 Podcast, then you should. Those guys love Saga Edition, and always put on an entertaining show. They also frequently have the game designers as guests (and Sam Witwer of Force Unleashed and Battlestar Galactica fame).

Not that I would know though. I never listen to the Order 66 Podcast. Wink

Design Notes

Apr 29, 2011 -- 5:47PM, johnnyputrid wrote:

The first stat block represents Grievous prior to the loss of his partner Ronderu lij Kummar and before he becomes the supreme warlord (khagan) of his people. His stats reflect the fact that he was primarily focused on his skill with a slugthrower rifle (Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Sport Hunter), but has begun to master swordmanship and the multi-weapon prowess he will later become infamous for. I decided to give him a much higher starting Strength score than he likely would normally have, as it really isn't clear whether or not Tech Specialist droid traits would work with a cyborg-hybrid body. I just played it safe in this case to make things simple.

The second block represents Grievous as well all know and love him, right before Obi-Wan tears him a new one. By this point in his career, Grievous is an established slayer of Jedi and trained in the seven forms of lightsaber combat personally by Count Dooku himself, hence the two levels of Jedi (mostly done for the free proficiency feat, but also thematically acceptable). Aside from the standard Dual Weapon Mastery, Double Attack and Triple Attack feats, I decided to go with the Unrelenting Assault + Whirling Death combo to help represent his unorthodox lightsaber-blender fighting style. Even if Grievous misses an attack, which is likely if he uses his additional Double/Triple attacks, he still deals some damage. And just being adjacent to him can get a person damaged as well.

I actually thought about giving him more Elite Trooper levels over Officer, as most Officer stuff is all mind-affecting, which does nothing for his droid troops. But in the end Officer seemed the simplest and is character-appropriate, if mechanically a little bland - though Share Talent (Tough as Nails) does give some of his droid troops a bit of staying power, which is handy.

Also note that Grievous is fresh out of Destiny Points as of the Utapau battle - he probably should've saved one for an emergency or gone after some extra XP to level up!
